Pampering days were few and far between in 2022, and now it’s time to start this year off right. My hair has been twisted, sprayed, combed, and gelled down the past week due to holiday celebrations and traveling to visit family. To decompress and renew my curls, I dabbled in my Curlsmith and Q-Redew products for my first wash-and-go of 2023.
Curlsmith’s Bond Curl Rehab
I wet my hair with water and reached for Curlsmith’s Bond Curl Rehab Salve. It smells like a tropical fruit bowl, thanks to the Superfood blend that contains guava, blackcurrant, and prickly pear. Its serum consistency rendered it easy to apply throughout my strands. I leave it on for fifteen minutes as I munch on some Chipotle and read my latest book. It’s all about the finer things in life, isn’t it?
Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash
After my time is up (aka when I get to the end of chips and guac) I head over to the sink and rinse my hair. Which now feels oh-so-soft and nourished with proteins. I follow up with Curlsmith’s Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash. This 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner cleanse and conditions my strands. It comes out runny yet creamy and applies like a dream with coconut oil, avocado oil, sunflower oil, and shea butter. This co-wash will definitely be my go-to in 2023. I follow up with Q-Redew’s Deep Moisture Masque.
Q-Redew Masque and Steamer
It’s small yet mighty with a high slip texture that coats all my curls evenly. I clip my hair up and use their iconic hair steamer. It is foolproof: simple directions of filling with water, waiting to heat up, then applying to hair. The hot steam penetrates my low-porosity curls quickly. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to using a heating cap because this steamer is life. I also used it to refresh my day-five curls. I was thoroughly impressed by how shiny and bouncy it looked after use. This is the perfect addition to any pampering day.
Moisture Memory Reactivator
Before styling my curls, I spray on Curlsmith’s Moisture Memory Reactivator. This spray is meant for day-two refreshes but I prefer to use it to prime my curls for products. It is lightweight and sinks right in, bringing out the natural spring of my hair, thanks to the olive oil, resurrection flower, and andiroba formula. On day two, I used the Moisture Memory Reactivator to fluff out my fro and give it all the volume!
Curl Defining Styling Souffle
One of my favorite parts of wash day is styling. I dip my fingers into the Curl Defining Styling Souffle. Its jelly texture is so fun to play with, first of all. I could jiggle it in the jar all day long. But the most important part is the texture plays so well with forming and holding my curl pattern. I only needed a fingertip amount to apply to my sections, twisted them up, and clipped them back. I air-dried while I caught up on some tunes. After jamming out for an hour or so, I untwisted my hair. I was left with my favorite curls ever. So springy, bouncy, full of body and volume, defined and shiny. I was beyond elated and can’t wait to manifest more good curl days this year!
