Bringing Salon-Quality Haircare Home With Blacklight Blonde Science

Blacklight Blonde Science Lineup

Keeping lightened hair healthy can be a real struggle. Unfortunately, those gorgeous golden and platinum hues can come hand in hand with brittle, breakable strands. Making luscious, lightened hair more accessible, one family-owned haircare company is offering professional-level products without necessitating a trip to the salon.

Since 1986, Montreal-based Oligo Professionel has been creating color, care, and styling products that salon-goers could benefit from during a sesh. Now, the company has made its Blacklight Blonde Science haircare lineup obtainable for at-home use. This could be a game-changer for chronic appointment procrastinators.

The Blacklight Blonde Science collection is broken up into three categories, Hydrate, Neutralize, and Repair. Each category features shampoo and conditioner, as well as other masks and oils to help customers achieve their hair goals.

Hydrate

Products in the Hydrate category have hyaluronic acid as well as oils like avocado, rice bran, and hemp seed baked into their formulas. I tried out a few products from this line including the 18 in Beautifier, a spray for detangling hair and restoring moisture. The spray left my hair feeling soft and my mind a little more worry-free knowing it’s safe for lightened hair. The category also boasts two hydrating masks for amping up hair moisture on a deeper level, and there’s a sulfate-free dry shampoo for those days a wash just isn’t in the cards.

Neutralize

Violet Shampoo

From the Neutralize range, I tried out the Violet Shampoo. The first thing I noticed is just how violet it is! If there was a shower scene in “Willy Wonka,” this shampoo would surely have been involved. The shampoo uses ingredients like squalene, argan oil, and açai extract to help neutralize brassy tones and refresh blonde shades. While the shampoo was shockingly purple, I can assure you that it didn’t leave my hair with any purple streaks. My color stayed intact (and, better yet, no one had to usher me to the juicing room).

Repair

Hair and Scalp Oil

From the Repair lineup, there’s a Repair Hair and Scalp Oil that can be used as a relief treatment for the scalp. I’m looking forward to trying this promising oil out on one of those heavy-hair and sore-scalp days. It’s a 20-minute process, so I’m thinking it would pair well with a sheet mask and maybe a tipple or two.

Oligo’s Blacklight Blonde Science lineup is available here, and some products are also available on Amazon.

Amy Hamblen

After spending over a decade in New York, Amy Hamblen is still impressively bad at giving directions around the city. Fortunately, she makes up for it with an abundance of solid happy hour recommendations. Amy is originally from Indiana, and whether or not her years spent covering the food and entertainment scene in NYC has earned her a seat at the table may be debatable, but it's of little consequence — she much prefers a stool at the bar.
