Pioneering the future of skincare, Delavie Sciences was created with the goal of tackling common skin concerns, particularly aging, with science-backed products. I recently had the privilege to speak with Co-Founder and President Dr. Kyle Landry to learn about his innovative brand, background and more.
Thank you for joining us. You have quite an impressive background. Especially in education. Please tell us about yourself.
I received my doctorate in food science in which I was devoted to innovation and developing patents. I was recruited by Dr. David Sinclair, the Co-Founder of Delavie Sciences, to do postdoctoral research which focused on extremophiles at Harvard. This is how I fell into the skincare space accidentally. When the research led to discovering organisms that could lead to skincare longevity, Delavie Sciences was born. I developed a love for learning and discovering new things to benefit the end user whether that be in food or in skin care. As my knowledge developed and my research proved valuable in the dermatology and skincare space, I’ve been driven to continue innovating.
What was the motivation to create your own skincare line?
I entered the skincare space somewhat unexpectedly, coming from a background in food science and longevity. That work led to the discovery of organisms with potential applications in skin longevity, which ultimately became the foundation for Delavie Sciences. Along the way, I developed a strong passion for learning and uncovering new ways to benefit the end user, whether through food or skincare. As my understanding deepened and the research began to show real value in dermatology and skincare, it motivated me to continue pushing the boundaries.
What sets layerOne apart from others and who is your target customer?
Powered by Delavie Sciences’ patented ingredient, Hydrolytic Enzyme Complex (HEC), layerOne represents a new approach to cleansing and skin renewal. Derived from a novel extremophile, a resilient organism that thrives in extreme heat, HEC harnesses unique enzymatic properties to control oil, improve elasticity, and support skin renewal without compromising barrier health. Clinically, HEC has been shown to remove 77% of facial sebum immediately after application, reduce skin scaliness by 46% in a single use, and improve elasticity by up to 39%. It has also been scientifically demonstrated to increase collagen levels by 63%. Together, the HEC within the layerOne system is clinically proven to reduce oiliness by up to 98% while enhancing elasticity and supporting gentle exfoliation, all while maintaining the integrity of the skin barrier and microbiome.
Unlike traditional cleansers, the layerOne cleanser does more than clean and prep the skin. It delivers meaningful longevity benefits that are not typically seen in cleansing systems on the market today. The toner also acts as a hydrator that rebalances and preps skin as for the remainder of the routine unlike any other, due to the HEC. Early testers were highly impressed, with 90% reporting that their skin felt softer and revitalized after just one use, and 100% noting an immediate feeling of refreshment. As with all Delavie products, our patented ingredients make layerOne suitable for all skin types. It is particularly beneficial for younger skin prone to acne and excess oil, while also supporting more mature skin by improving texture, balance, and overall skin health.
This is fascinating to me. Your products are formulated with an organism from space that helps our bodies become more efficient at anti-aging. Tell us more. ‘
Yes, this fascinated us as well. Delavie’s Aeonia Collection, which includes the Age-Defying Serum, Gentle Age-Defying Serum, Eye Refresh Cream, and Sculpting Cream, is powered by Bacillus Lysate, a proprietary, patented ingredient developed from research conducted aboard the International Space Station in collaboration with NASA. It is also the first biological cosmetic ingredient to be recognized as Certified Space Technology by The Space Foundation.
Derived from a microorganism that spent 18 months outside the International Space Station, Bacillus Lysate was found to possess remarkable age-defying properties. Research has shown that it improves skin hydration and pigmentation, reduces free radical formation, and stimulates SIRT1 enzyme activity, a key regulator of cellular longevity. The ingredient has been proven to enhance skin longevity, increase intrinsic hyaluronic acid production, improve cellular resilience, and function as a powerful antioxidant. Across the Aeonia Collection, Bacillus Lysate works to increase cell viability and hydration while targeting fine lines and supporting a more youthful, radiant appearance. It helps smooth and depuff the skin, restore elasticity, and combat dullness and environmental stress. By translating the resilience of space into skincare, Aeonia delivers a next-generation approach to longevity, bringing your skin closer to its most balanced and revitalized state.
What is the significance of the brand’s name?
The literal translation of Delavie means “from life” in French, a concept that directly reflects our approach as a brand. Our patented ingredients are derived from living organisms and grounded in advanced scientific research. Delavie Sciences is built on the idea of harnessing insights from other life forms to improve our own, using skincare as the medium. Through continuous innovation and a deep commitment to science, we strive to translate biological discovery into meaningful benefits for everyday life.
Having worked in the skincare and wellness industry for so many years do you have a couple of top tips you could share with us?
People are often searching for a “magic pill” to solve all their problems. The reality is that it doesn’t exist, at least not yet. The greatest improvements in overall well-being come from focusing on the fundamentals: sleep, diet, exercise, and mental health. The good news is that these changes don’t have to be drastic. Small, consistent adjustments can make a meaningful difference over time. Getting an extra hour of sleep, adding a couple of salads to your weekly routine, planning a bi-weekly walk with friends, or taking 30 minutes each day to sit in silence may seem minor, but these habits compound. I love the saying “Inch by Inch, Life is a cinch. Yard by yard, life is hard,” which holds true to anything you do. Starting small makes it easier to stay consistent, and consistency is what ultimately allows you to build a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.
