Urban Stages Reopens their Doors this Month

Curtain up. Light the Fresnel lamps. Live performances are coming back to New York this month at Urban Stages with Lori Brown Mirabal.

Charmed Life: From Soul Singing to Opera Star closed at the beginning of the pandemic. Ms. Mirabal (author and leading lady) hits the stage with flair and a set of pipes that once made Pavarotti sit up and take notice. (He kissed her hand).

The story is about la Diva’s singing, travels and life experiences, from her roots in Tennessee to the opulent opera houses around the globe — her story gives a nod and a wink to many artists including a national Broadway tour with Cab Calloway.  Opera and Broadway fans will be regaled with tales about her performances in Showboat and Porgy and Bess.

The show runs for a limited engagement from July 9th thru August 1 and the opening night is July 14th.

Charmed Life: From Soul Singing to Opera Star is directed by Vincent Scott.

NOTE: Audience members must show proof of COVID vaccination to enter the theatre. While I’m vaccinated, I find this request to be a little bit drastic: ‘Papers! Papers!’
