Vanilla Era: Part 2

Vanilla is a note of elegant versatility. Never tedious or boring, it shines even when stripped down to utter simplicity. From cozy and gourmand to earthy, spicy, even green, it is far from predictable. Here are 5 more vanilla-forward fragrances to enjoy as the weather continues to chill.

Vanilla Crush by Gleam London is a simple yet elevated ode to its namesake note. Burnt sugar, cotton candy, white musk, and more accompany vanilla, creating a whirlwind of fluffy sweetness with a vibe that matches the pink bottle. Pear blossom adds a grounding crispness. Angelic, ethereal, and airy are all words the brand uses to describe this scent profile, and I could not agree more. It’s innocent, it’s young, it’s completely carefree – and I can’t get enough.

Noyz recently added a new eau de parfum to their lineup: Only Human. Described as a “skin-hugging gourmand,” it’s like a blanket of soft cashmere, adding warmth but not overpowering the wearer. Creamy ambroxan, rich vanilla bean, and spiced Moroccan cedarwood are a trio of comfort and quiet indulgence. It’s delicious, but not as foody as a cupcake. Slightly woody, a bit peppery, this screams fall.

For something fresher, try Ellis Brooklyn’s Vanilla Salt, an addictive and clean take on the gourmand. Despite the sea salt note, it’s not too beachy to wear year-round. Jasmine, whipped cream, musk, and blonde wood accompany vanilla madagascar absolute, creating a sillage that is uplifting, aquatic, and undeniably modern. If you like their Salt fragrance, this is a slightly sweeter version that would be perfect for your autumn/winter wardrobe.

If you like a musky vanilla, try In Too Deep by 5 Sens, a swirl of Tahitian vanilla, sugar, sandalwood, and musk. This is sparkling, bright, and clean without being citrusy or aldehydic. It reminds me of the Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 59 body spray, my absolute favorite of the collection. Evoking sugar crystals and self love, it’s easy to overspray, as the sillage is so addictive – but I don’t mind, since it’s only $65.

Finally, the queen – or king – of this list: Althaïr by Parfums de Marly. Technically part of the men’s collection, this is completely unisex, and many women wear this fragrance. I first described this fragrance as reminiscent of a sauna, where dry, sweet heat mixes with the pleasant scent of wood. On the drydown, this is sweet, spicy vanilla – the kind you’d smell in a luxury hotel lobby. Beautiful as a signature scent, it shines brightest in fall and winter.
