It’s safe to say that you will never see anything quite like Natalie Palamides’WEER in your life. That’s how unique it is. Without giving away too much – because you’ll want to savor every minute and the mystery of this tale – you’ll experience audience interaction, a New Year’s Eve countdown, a bickering couple, a deer, a 1999 musical playlist, blood, rain, sex, a shower, gunshots, romance, love, hate, a speech impediment, and more. Palamides wrote and directed this one-woman/man show, which will run for four-weeks at the Cherry Lane Theatre, beginning Tuesday, September 28th.

Playing both the male and female partners in their tumultuous three-year relationship, the play opens on New Year’s Eve in 1999 after a couple has been together three years. Adept at playing both Mark and Christina and bringing them believably to life vocally and physically as a hot mess of a couple, this hilarious rom-com has a meet-cute, ups and downs, betrayal, passion, and love. The ultra-talented Natalie Palamides offers bold comedic strokes interspersed with sly and subtle comedic expressions to present a thoroughly memorable show.

Palamides wreaks havoc with the stage for a full 90 minutes, having her way with every prop and leaving behind evidence of each hilarious previous scene. When she faces stage left, she transforms into Mark in his plaid shirt, khakis, and Converse shoes, and when she faces the other way, she morphs into Christina in a skirt and heels, and they manage to convincingly kiss, make love, argue, dance, and interact for the entire show. That alone is amazing, but there’s a wealth of other things to sink your teeth into… Explicit and bawdy, the show captures every aspect of toxic relationships: the petty jealousies, the genuinely warranted jealousy, the needless bickering, the overwrought passion, and the ride-or-die attitudes. On the night we saw this show, Palamides received such a thundering standing ovation at the end that it threatened to be ceaseless.

You must see this if you want to enjoy a original comedy in an intimate, super-comfortable setting. The Cherry Lane Theatre’s renovation renders it lusher and more upscale than before, including the concession offerings and spirits.

Weer comes to New York after sell-out runs in Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival and at London’s Soho Theatre.

WEER will be the first theatre production at the historic Off-Broadway Cherry Lane Theatre since 2023, when film studio A24 assumed ownership and began renovations. The Cherry Lane, which opened in 1923 before The Great Depression, is the oldest continuously operating Off-Broadway venue in New York City. It’s located on Commerce Street, a gorgeous side street in the far west village that looks like something out of a film or painting.

Future productions and events at the Cherry Lane will include theatre, comedy, music, and film screenings, announced on a rolling basis on their website HERE. Order tickets to WEER HERE.
