Whatever a Sunday Reset means to you, it involves self-care and setting yourself up for the week ahead in a positive way. It’s a period of time to refresh the body and mind, shedding off the week before and stepping into the new week with intention.
On a beautiful summer Sunday, I had the luxury of visiting Perry Street Reflexology. Tucked away on the quiet, brownstone-lined street, I stepped through flower boxes and lace curtains to a charming setup. Reflexology was new to me, but the cozy interior and quiet hum of the place set a familiar and welcoming tone.

Reflexology is a long-standing practice. Originating in China, India, and Egypt 5000 years ago, it enhances the flow of energy throughout the body and promotes a natural relaxation response. By applying intentional pressure to specific points on the feet and legs, reflexology can relieve tension and promote balance in mental and physical ways.
While reflexology can be used to aid healing of specific health concerns or ailments, I went into it with the goal of general stress relief. As I was guided to a comfy chair with some water to quench my thirst, the staff was able to introduce reflexology to me and address any questions I had along the way. The session felt personalized; I was able to discuss my journey with lower back pain and my understanding of reflexology itself before I entered a period of deep relaxation.

From then on, all I needed to do was simply relax. While each muscle and ligament was meticulously massaged, I allowed my mind to visualize and meditate. Living in a digital world and fast-paced city, it’s necessary to find time for stillness and quiet. Reflexology derives certain elements from the concept of staying grounded to the natural world. It’s easy to forget to pay attention to the parts of our body that stay wrapped in socks and shoes each day, carrying us across the pavement of the city.
The physical sensation of reflexology is dependent on the individual and what sort of practice you go to. At Perry Street Reflexology, there is the pressure of relieving tension but no pain. With warm water, smooth oils, and slow movements, it’s rather spa-like. By the end of the session, both my body and mind felt like it had just taken a warm bath. After stepping back into my shoes and socks, I really did feel lighter. My body felt free of any aches or pains. Even the simple act of walking felt better than it did before my session.

For those seeking targeted healing or simply an opportunity to relax and feel refreshed, reflexology is a fantastic treatment. It’s also a great option for those seeking a less intrusive massage or spa experience that doesn’t require a change of clothes or potentially uncomfortable laying positions.
As we all make our way through the busy streets of NYC, I recommend taking an hour or so out of your week to find peace and comfort at Perry Street Reflexology. Your next Sunday Reset routine is waiting for you in the West Village.
