There is certainly a reason why EltaMD is recommended by so many Estheticians and Board-Certified Dermatologists alike. Known as the #1 recommended sunscreen brand by medical professionals, EltaMD offers a variety of skincare products tailored to each skin type – and is safe for sensitive skin. After trying a few products during my facial at Glowbar here in NYC, I was impressed, yet intrigued, by the brand. I was thrilled to test three of their sunscreens, as well as a few other products – including a new launch (hint – it’s green). Continue on to find my standouts of the bunch, as well as which product made its way into my everyday routine.
UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40
First on the list is a classic; the EltaMD UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40. This is an untinted sunscreen with a combination of chemical and mineral filters. Now, usually, I strictly use zinc-oxide only formulas due to the stinging sensation chemical filters cause in my eyes. However, I’m happy to share that none of EltaMD’s sunscreens irritate my eyes (or skin). UV Daily has a creamy texture, and has skin loving ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E. It’s also fragrance-free, paraben-free, and non-comedogenic, safe for acne prone skin. In terms of white cast, this formula is definitely on the more blendable side, but naturally shows up in my eyebrows and hairline. After some blending, it left a slight cast on my peach skin, but is elegant enough to wear everyday or under makeup.
UV Daily Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 40
Next is the tinted version of the UV Daily. With almost identical ingredients, the only main difference is the beige tint, concealing any uneven tones and helps mask the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Currently, this is my go-to for a natural makeup look, giving just enough sheer coverage for a day at the office, or a fun night out. Not to worry, there is also a Deep-Tinted formula for those that have a deeper complexion. I would suggest grabbing your favorite SPF powder after applying this, as it can lean shiny for those with oily skin.
Skin Recovery Serum
Before we get to the new launch, I wanted to share my stand out skin care product of the samples – the Skin Recovery Serum. Think hydrator meets barrier recovery. With an extremely thin gel texture, the formula is made with antioxidants like Centella Asiatica and Vitamin E, which help fight against damage in the skin. It’s also clinically proven to reduce redness by fifty three percent in 24 hours. The reason I love this serum is not only due to its hydrating properties, but it’s ability to absorb perfectly into the skin – making it perfect preparation for the rest of my nighttime routine. While suggested for dry skin, I urge everyone to rotate this into their PM regimen.
UV Skin Recovery Red Color Correcting Green Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 50
Finally, the most unique of the lot is the UV Skin Recovery Red Color Correcting Green Tint. Yes, you read the title correctly; A green sunscreen. Opposite on the color wheel, red is known to cancel out green – and vice versa. As someone with very red skin, I knew I had to try this product after it came out of embargo on February 4th. It’s meant for sensitive, post-procedure, and prone to rosacea skin, containing a patented 2% AA Complex Barrier Repair Technology. I’m thrilled to share that the formula really does minimize the redness on my cheeks, especially after the second layer. Similar to the untinted version mentioned before, this one also gets stuck in the eyebrows and hairline, but can be easily blended away on lighter skin tones. If you have a darker skin tone, you may want to apply the tinted layer to avoid an obvious white cast.
EltaMD is a fabulous option for anyone looking for reliable, effective skincare that’s safe for sensitive skin. I highly recommend you try one of their award-winning sunscreens – you’ll be sure to find one you love. You can browse on their website or in select stores.
