Hidden in the forest is a place to escape from everyday life: this is Spa at the Woods. Tucked away in Killington, Vermont, it offers a little something for our inner self-care guru. Massages, saunas, pools, waxes — I opted for a mani/pedi session for a couple hours.
I pulled up to a moody stone building that felt both cozy and chic, as I parked my car and entered.
Upon arrival, I headed downstairs for the spa, where I found a smiling receptionist and a bowl of chocolates. She offered me one as I told her I had an appointment and she promptly checked me in. She asked for my shoe size, snagging a pair of flip flops for me, and I was whisked away to the changing room. She gave me a quick tour of the area (showers, lockers, all the works) and informed me that my nail tech would be waiting outside the door when I was ready. I thanked her and slipped into a robe. Once I was ready, I saw a dark-haired woman in a black outfit, this was Ashley.
Ashley led me to the pedicure room with a foot bath and meditation music. Taking a glance at the polish selection, I decided on a chocolate color, sophisticated and autumnal, putting me in a good mood for fall. I hopped over to the chair, slipped my sandals off, and…oooh. The hot water felt heavenly on my feet as I sat back and turned on the massage chair. Ashley sat down and began primping and pampering my feet. She clipped, cleaned, scrubbed (scrubbed again with a file), and moisturized. I took this time to get lost in the book Beloved by Toni Morrison and let my mind wander into relaxation.
Before I knew it, Ashley was finishing the last touches of the polish job and I felt warm and fuzzy. After months of running back and forth on campus, I needed this R & R.
Up next was the manicure as Ashley walked me to another section of the spa. There I sat as she expertly moved through each step of cleaning, prepping, and massaging. I closed my eyes to really enjoy each sensation, this manicure was long overdue. For polish, I stuck to a matching brown, the same as my toes. She quickly worked on polishing and took her time cleaning up my nails to perfection with an itty bitty nail tool. I was in shock over how clean and precise her work was. Then.. I was done! Well, almost … as I sat for a few minutes and waited for my nails to settle. Then I shuffled back to the changing room, careful to not touch anything.
I made my way to the receptionist’s desk and thanked her for all her help before heading to my car. My day at The Spa in the Woods, reset my mind and relaxed my hands and feet, which often get neglected during my busy weeks. It was a professional and calming mani/pedi session that was an impeccable addition to my trip to Vermont. Stop by Spa in the Woods at 53 Woods Lane, Killington, VT 05751. Happy fall foliage!
