Meet Vina Love. Entrepreneur, singer, and fashionista. Her drive and passion for giving is number one on top of her list. She gives back to the communities in New York City and was recently recognized by New York City mayor Eric Adams for her achievements in her philanthropy.
She is uplifting and positive and that is represented in her music. Her current single “Around You” is about positivity and spreading love whether it be a friendship or relationship. Her musical style is a cross between R&B with a hip hop flair. Safe bet she got that from her father – the legendary Kid Capri.
I sat down to talk with the budding entrepreneur to talk about her Harlem roots, giving back to her community, and what is next in her music career.
You were recently recognized by Mayor Adams for empowering communities and women through both your music and philanthropy. How did that recognition feel?
That was amazing. You don’t realize who is watching or if anyone is watching. They took some time to see what I was doing. It was great. They reached out to my PR team initially.
Tell me about your new single “Around You”.
That’s actually one of my favorite singles right now of all ones that’s been released. It’s about my love not having a limit. It doesn’t matter where you are and what situation you are in, my love is going to bring you to the positive side of whatever side it is. It’s a reminder of what love is supposed to feel like. It’s about personal experience and that desire of that kind of love. Being honest in how we really feel. It could be for a friendship or a relationship, call me I will lift you up.
What does it mean for you to be born and raised in Harlem?
It’s amazing. We are built up of so much culture. That term ‘it takes a village’ that is what Harlem about. It’s like that in every aspect — from the food, the way we dress, the way we communicate with each other, and our events. It’s really like a home base. I love that I’m from Harlem. I feel like my style comes from being a Harlem girl and a New York girl, period.
You donate your time to give back the community. What drives you to do that?
The kids. I love the babies. I remember being younger with all the toy drives and all these different things we had growing before all the social media stuff. When I look outside, it’s not always positive. The kids are definitely what I connect with. The toy drives, giving away clothing, etc.
Ballin 4 Peace is another organization you are involved with.
It gets the adults to give back. It’s for all the adults to give back who never had the chance to. We do it every year and it opens people’s minds up to what they can do.
Who do you look up to fashion wise?
I think a lot of people look at my style and think I go name-brand crazy. I love vintage Dior, Luis Vuitton, and those kinds of things. My mom is my stylist. I’m not a really big shopper. We create the fit. It’s just about the moment and not what is trendy. It’s natural and fun.
What do you think about the social media age?
I think it has its good and its bad. It’s great to connect to fans and put your music out there. You don’t even need a record label now. You can promote yourself now. I do though feel like it’s a bigger deal to connect in the physical. We connect really well on social media but it’s not like meeting in person.
What’s next for you?
More music. Brand collabs, but bigger than what we see on social media. I’m excited because what’s in my plan is going to be a great blueprint for all the other artists around me. I’m preparing for the album to come out next year. I will be planning on an EP and album release and then head on tour for both, and it will be insane.
How does it feel to be the daughter of the legendary Kid Capri?
He’s Dad. He keeps it normal for me and my sister. We don’t have to make an appointment or check his schedule or anything like that to see him. I think he helped us to figure out how to deal with people, how to be calm, be humble, and helped us maneuver through the Earth. I love my Dad.
