Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a Danish Twist

“A Kringle is happiness with icing on top.”

Kringle is a buttery Danish pastry made with 36 flaky layers of dough traditionally shaped into an oval. For Valentine’s Day, the O & H Danish Bakery is offering a romantic heart-shaped Kringle decorated with a red sugar frosting and cherry filling. It is delicious served chilled, at room temperature, or warm.

After a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, one can serve this tasty pastry in many ways:

  • Top each slice with a sprinkling of toasted walnuts to add crunchy texture.
  • Heat the Kringle in the oven or microwave and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Add dark chocolate shavings for a delectable bittersweet contrast to the sweet cherry filling.
  • Add  lemon zest on top to create citrusy contrast with the rich sweetness of the cherry filling.

The cherry-filled  Kringle has turned me into a fan of this centuries-old Danish pastry tradition. I will be back for more!

O & H also holds a weekly “Win a Kringle Contest.”  Enter online.
