Snake-Headed Medusa: Martyr or Muse?

“the Gorgon’s monstrous head, that rippling dragon horror – a severed head which turned to stone those who beheld it.” – Homer’s Iliad

Algol, known as the ‘Demon Star’ or ‘Blinking Demon,’ is an eclipsing variable star aligning with the Sun annually, May 15-19th at 26º Taurus. Situated within the constellation Perseus (the hero who ‘slays’ Medusa), Algol is an astonishingly bright, heavily observed star with fierce and malefic associations. Nestled in the Milky Way, roughly 92 light-years away from Earth, we observe the Perseus constellation, and its Medusa head, also the source of a late-summer meteor shower. Like the ‘bindi’ illuminating the third eye of Gorgon Medusa, Algol was considered by the ancients to be one of the most unfortunate, violent, and dangerous stars in the heavens. ‘Evil’ or not, Algol is linked astrologically with decapitation, bad teeth, war, a sudden downfall or ‘wake-up’ call, misfortune, mob violence, murder, sudden death, brutality, mischief, hanging, power struggles, and/or intense transformation.

Algol’s notoriety stretches back thousands of years. Deemed the most infamous and intriguing celestial body, Algol has fascinated astrologers, astronomers, and spiritual seekers for centuries. Long before it became known as ‘Demon Star,’ its variable behavior shocked ancient stargazers. Characterized by its patterns of ominous and dramatic dimming, roughly every 8 hours, the star appears to blink or wink in the night sky, hence its ‘Blinking Demon’ title. While Algol itself is not actually variable in brightness, the blinking effect is a result of its binary, some say trinary, formation in alignment with the orbital plane of the Earth.

Daniel Johnson of Sky and Telescope informs that when fainter, cooler secondary Algol passes in front of hot, blue, main-sequence Algol, we see the system’s brightness drop, which some refer to as a death/rebirth cycle. Roxanna Bikadoroff of Roxannamundi reports that Algol is not a binary system (two stars) as previously thought, but a trinary system (three stars), serving its own poetic justice, as the triad formation recalls Medusa, one of three Gorgon sisters. While the Greeks connected the Demon’s Stars winking-eye to the snake-drizzled Medusa, for others it was simply a ghastly sight marrying the fixed star with its reputation as a trickster, monster, and ill omen. Said to awaken us to the darker chords of life’s symphony, Halloween and Day of the Dead are ideal times to look for Algol, as the Demon Star is reasonably low in the evening sky at the end of October.

Algol, from the Arabic Al Ghul (translation, the ‘Demon’s Head,’ or ‘the ghoul’), was a star that ancient Arabic commanders in chief consulted when going to war. Important battles were never permitted to start during periods in which the light of Agol was weak. Interesting that the Arab word for alcohol means ‘the Demon,’ and alcohol comes from the word Algol. “Alcohol disintegrates and dries us out, so it literally petrifies. It turns us into zombies, we lose our heads and our sovereignty,” writes Marina of Darkstar Astrology. Let’s not forget the medical term Algology, Latin for ‘the study of pain.’ The Chinese endowed the infamous fixed star with the gruesome title ‘Tseih She,’ meaning ‘the Piled-up Corpses.’ The Hebrews knew Algol as ‘Rosh ha Satan,’ or ‘Satan’s Head.’ In Bryant’s translation of the Iliad, we hear of “the Gorgon’s head, a ghastly sight, deformed and dreadful, and a sign of woe.” A quick look at Algol’s key words proves no less fearsome:

Monsters, Frankenstein, splicing, plastic surgery, mutation, genetic manipulation, playing god, weird heads, unusual hair, abnormal sex drive, perversion, warped mind, exaggerated demeanor, deformities, a creation that becomes destructive to its maker, regeneration, montaging, potency versus impotence, striking, stunning, spine-tingling, mind blowing, getting out-of-your-head, off-with-your-head, ego-death, mind over matter, ultra-creative, playing god, soothing pain, caring for the suffering, haunting voice, speaking for the under-dog, exorcising one’s demons, shadow-work…

Algol rules heads of states and beheading, treason and replacing one ideology with another, don’t forget information that blows your mind! Often prominent amongst those who work in the mass media, here we find a connection between Medea, Medusa Media, medicine, anti-venom, and snakes. Roxanna Bikadoroff reveals how Algol comes from al-kuhl, as in kohl – the powder produced by alchemical sublimation. If we can thereby link Algol to alchemy, “might ‘turning to stone’ have a double meaning?” questions Bikadoroff.

Other accounts associate the star with Lilith, biblical Adam’s legendary demonic wife, a nocturnal vampire witch from the lower world, and an apparent baby-eater. Under Judaism, Lilith became a primary vehicle of patriarchy. Authentic sexuality expressed as an aspect of the perfection of nature went underground as patriarchy locked in its agenda to pass land exclusively through male lines and control women’s reproductive capacities. Leaving the last man on Earth in order to retain her autonomy, biblical Lilith is reborn as the cultural personification of female evil. A dark demoness who comes to seduce and destroy men at night, at the most extreme, Lilith threatens pregnant women and kills their children. With the shaming of Lilith came the shaming of all women’s bodies.

As a stellar embodiment of the severed head of Medusa, a monstrous creature to say the least, Algol has been ascribed many astrological meanings, none of which prove very promising at first glance. When prominent in a natal chart, Algol might signify dogged, adventurous individuals who are less than honest in their dealings with others, and who are prone to violence and lying. Constellation of Words reflects that according to Ptolemy, Perseus is like Jupiter and Saturn, and likewise said: “to give an intelligent, strong, bold and adventurous nature, but a tendency to lying.” The Perseus constellation as a whole has also been linked to events affecting large groups of people and major meteorological phenomena. Before we get into the Algol effects within a personal natal chart, let’s dive into the rich mythology of the Gorgon Witch Medusa.

According the Revolutionary Mystic and other feminist readings of Greek mythology, Medusa as Algol’s ‘destruction’ is a continuum encompassing a full cycle of death and rebirth. While here in the West we often engage in devout ageism, regarding youth as a standard, rather than a season, matrifocal wisdom necessitates a cyclical, rather than a hierarchical, relationship between the feminine archetypes of Maiden, Mother and Crone. Medusa, who turned all those who gazed upon her to stone. In one version, all three of the gorgon sisters were born old and with grey hair, sharing one eye and one tooth between them, which they passed around prior to Perseus stealing it as a ransom used to uncover Medusa’s whereabouts.

In another version, Medusa was once beautiful, and yet once cursed, monstrous. As the only official mortal of the three gorgons, in this version, Medusa was originally a beautiful maiden before having her hair spelled into a pile of hissing serpents. And so, it was the fearful appearance of the snakes that turned onlookers to stone. Roxannamundi notes here how solar heroes such as Perseus tend to express “a particular bias toward anything that slithers – serpents, dragons, sea monsters – which symbolize the untameable, irrational, lunar (dark) forces of the creative feminine, but also monsters we create from shadow.” Likewise, when we assess Algol in our personal natal chart, and for that matter, in our own lives, we are usually addressing something rather tumultuous or terrifying which has ‘come to a head.’ From the shadow perspective, the ‘serpent-head’ is only as monstrous as our refusal to grow and evolve. The more conscious we are of the issue, the more power we have to decide “what form your Perseus will take,” explains Roxannamundi. As in, will it be a literal decapitation or a spiritual ego death? A Hanged Man tarot pull or a hot date with the guillotine? A dust off your crown moment or a rumble with 62 million virtual demons?

Not only does Demon Star Algol crystallize a symbol of destruction-creation, but its association with power, transformation, and “the consequences of unchecked aggression,” writes the Revolutionary Mystic, makes it a highly relevant archetype for these times we are living in. Even as feminists have long been calling an end to the systemic violence of patriarchy, the cyclical nature Medusa reflects reminds us that the only thing bringing the patriarchy down is itself. Hence, the much-anticipated collapse of Western civilization.

Might Medusa’s ‘fearsome’ power merely be a reflection of our Western refusal of death? I’m not saying we need any more of the intense violence, chaos and drastic change symbolized by Algol. Only that, astrology is a mirror, not a ‘self-help’ manual or a crystal ball from which we can extract fame, fortune and whatever it is we please. Not only does the Demon Star’s ferocious reputation encapsulate the vilification and demonization of powerful women by patriarchal narratives, at a more personal level, but it is also about the darker aspects of the feminine, the alchemical gold which results when we face our fears. Once we stop externalizing our demons and face the shadow aspects of the self, welcoming the destructive chaos we experience within the crucible of transformation, we begin to clear the way for more purposefulness and embodied wisdom. Algol doesn’t hold the monopoly on gore, it reflects back to us what we attempt to avoid.

Are you owning your capacity for change? Mythically, Medusa faces both victimization and transformation, echoed in Algol’s most negative connotations. What if we, in the words of Revolutionary Mystic, reinterpret her myth to “highlight themes of empowerment, resistance, and the subversion of patriarchal narratives?”  The snakes crowning her head, terrifying and monstrous for some, pregnant with potential for others. Within the wisdom traditions, snakes are the primary symbol of transformation, regeneration, kundalini energy, healing power, protection, wisdom and knowledge. “Medusa’s serpentine hair can be viewed as a sign of her deep understanding and connection to ancient, esoteric wisdom,” writes Revolutionary Mystic.

Just as patriarchal culture likes to call an assertive woman a ‘bitch’ and a focused woman ‘cold,’ what if Medusa’s snakes were a confirmation of her boundaries and autonomy, her deadly gaze, a form of truth-seeing and self-defense? In a male-dominated society that attempts to relinquish women of bodily sovereignty, “Medusa’s ability to petrify those who look upon her can be seen as a metaphor for reclaiming control over her own body and space,” affirms Revolutionary Mystic. A fierce grace embodied by the enduring divine feminine, Medusa’s head resists the conditions of objectification, economic disenfranchisement and systemic violence normalized by white male patriarchy.

If you read my Jupiter BEAUTYSCOPE (Greek Zeus), you already learned about the course of Perseus’s life leading up to his Medusa kill mission. In a familiar tale about fathers who fear being overthrown by their own offspring, Zeus seduced Perseus’s mother Danae by descending on her like a shower of fertilizing gold. From this union would come our hero, Perseus, and the threat he posed to Zeus’s established order. Tricked into a quest designed to lead to his death, Perseus prevailed, aided by divine gifts (a reflective shield and a cap of invisibility) from Athena and Hermes. Against great odds, Perseus successfully decapitated Medusa while looking only at her reflection. Following the quest, Perseus gifted Medusa’s head to Athena, who placed it on her shield or breastplate, carrying it forevermore as an emblem in battle.

If you read my BEAUTYSCOPE about Pallas Athena (Ain’t You a Warrior Princess?), you likely recall how Athena secured her singular archetype status. Denying her former Triple Goddess status, Athena cosigns a discipline and punishment climate in which women’s supposed seduction and corruption of men became a social fact. Warrior strength gives Athena power to be her own person, and rise up like a self-kept virgin queen she does – at the expense of the Crone/Elder aspect of the feminine. Foreswearing her feminine origins and denying the fertility principle in order to be accepted as man’s equal, Athena’s androgyny enabled her to join the ranks of men minus the sexual entanglement. And yet, just like Algol is Medusa’s pulsating ‘bindi’ situated within a constellation glorifying the heroic male act of our mother’s decapitation, the story of Pallas Athena is likewise a weak imitation of the original, a cooption of myth replanted within a rootless, white-washed, male-centric domain.

Ferocious Demon or Full-Spectrum Feminine Reclaimed?

Known to tribes of African Amazons 6,000 years prior to Eurocentric appropriation, Pallas, Athena, and Medusa were one, carriers of the traditional title of ‘Tritogenia,’ an homage to her watery origins. Formerly known as the Libyan Triple Serpent Goddess Neith, as this full-bodied incantation, Medusa is not a martyr, but rather, represents the trinity of Maiden/Mother/Crone encompassing Pallas (Maiden Protectress), Athena (Warrior Mother) and Medusa (Wise Crone) – officially a triple moon emanation of the Libyan snake Goddess. In one version of the legend, of the three Gorgons, Medusa was the ‘ruler,’ the other two were the ‘wanderer’ (Euryale) and the ‘strong one’ (Sthenno). With dreadlocks proclaiming her African origin, Medusa’s traditional title ‘sovereign female wisdom’ has been largely forgotten.

In ‘The Gorgon Medusa’ [Perseus  Digital Library] Alicia Le Van explores how the full-bodied image of Medusa once played a central role for the Greeks. As ‘Lady of Beasts,’ the ancient likeness of Gorgon Medusa was a symbol of female power and wisdom emblazoned in art, beautifying the oldest surviving temple of Artemis, the Huntress. “Words would fail to tell the glory of her hair, most wonderful of all her charms – a friend declared to me he saw its lovely splendor,” wrote the Roman poet Ovid.

In one iteration, Medusa was punished for being raped by Neptune in the temple of Athena, who had come to revile the elder priestess wisdom in favor of the new male order. Extrapolating on the link between Algol and ‘alcohol,’ Marina of Darkstar Astrology highlights how Neptune is a Sea God associated with alcohol, drugs and altered states of consciousness. Alice Sparkly Cat, author of Postcolonial Astrology, refers to Medusa as a priestess of Athena, “So attractive that she was constantly getting assaulted by creepy men,” claiming that Algol, in turn, is about ‘captured beauty.’ Along those lines, depending on how you read the myth, some say that Athena’s actions were driven by envy, others that it was a protective gesture.

Pallas Athena’s mental gifts of prophecy are still highlighted in her snake symbolism, as the ancients traditionally used ceremonial snake venom for its visionary and divinatory properties. Symbol of kundalini rising and mother of serpents, a true Amazon Woman, Athena was honored annually in the Libyan festival of maidens in armed combat. Marina of Darkstar Astrology notes how not only do the serpents in Medusa’s hair connect her to the Ophiuchus constellation (the snake charmer or ‘medicine man’), the word medicine shares a root with Medusa. Representing both wisdom and fear, the snake reminds us that the latter emotion is not a roadblock but a guide to soul evolution. Pallas Athena’s connection to her crone trinity form (Medusa’s head of snakes) is a most ancient symbol, reminding us that the best medicine is teaching someone how not to need it. In this right, Athena governs techniques of mind-body balance, such as yoga and the martial arts.

As the patriarchy rose to power, Goddess worship was violently disrupted, her symbols swallowed to emerge later with their meanings perverted. Sanctuaries were invaded, just as the female wisdom, natural forces, powers of creativity, destruction, and regeneration, which Goddess-worship encapsulates, were deemed ‘evil.’ Medusa became horrid, a mere decoration on the heroic male playing field of Father-rite.

What do we make of Perseus, the solar-hero clutching the head of the Great Goddess, once wise, now monstrous? According to Nick Kollerstrom of Sky Script,  “The Perseus myth contrasts a horrid woman’s head, once that of the sage goddess-oracle, with the body of the ‘good’ girl, who is fancied by Perseus.” Not only do we see within his constellation a sword emblazoned in the sky pointing between her legs, but our hero also ends up killing half the guests at his own wedding, which Kollerstom suggests is a parable of Greek imperialism in Africa.

For feminists, the myth of Perseus slaying Medusa symbolizes enduring primal feminine power. Interesting to note that Algol is both Medusa ‘beheaded’ and the Hanged Man of tarot, a symbol of sacrifice, surrender, and the suspension of action to gain divine insight. Representing a shift in perspective rather than a death, the Hanged Man association overlaps with Medusa’s myth in that neither is a passive victim. In fact, the apparent tragedy of their experience helps them flip the paradigm and cut through illusion. From Medusa, we learn that even when women are silenced, oppressed, violated, sidelined, ostracized, or worse, Medusa’s “enduring power challenges the notion that male dominance is absolute,” informs Revolutionary Mystic’s astro-feminist take.

Just as we live in a society of victim-blaming, “Medusa’s punishment reflects how patriarchal systems punish women for their perceived transgressions,” writes Revolutionary Mystic. Joining the ranks of other demonized, Dark Goddesses like Lilith, Kali, Eve, Inanna/Ishtar, Sekhmet, Brigid or Tiamat – Medusa, and likewise Algol, reminds us that when we fear our own nature, we only have ourselves to blame. When we fail to read Algol as more than a symbol of ‘destruction,’ we cut our creative-sexual power off at the source. When we fail to take an intersectional approach to gender-based violence, sweeping our demons under the rug, our unconscious is refusing to heal.

As you read on, rather than externalizing or historicizing those most monstrous aspects of reality, we are tasked with engaging in the multifaceted, fluid, complex work of decolonization, in the dismantling of patriarchal narratives which erase, silence and distort the power of the divine feminine and the indigenous wisdom traditions at the root of modern religion, at the heart of what we call faith. In reframing our study of ‘Demon Star’ Algol as an act of spiritual recalibration, reclaiming the disavowed feminine from within, mythic Medusa thereby “teaches us to harness the revolutionary potential within us leading to profound personal and collective growth,” affirms Revolutionary Mystic.

Extreme Outcomes or Empowerment through Adversity?

It’s no secret that the ancient texts decorate Algol placements with deadly outcomes.  Algol opposing Mars? Beheaded. Algol conjunct a luminary? Maimed, mangled, wounded or torn to pieces alive. Aspecting the Moon? Violent death or extreme sickness. Aspecting Mars, Saturn and Moon at once? Hanging or decapitation by royal command. Conjunct Mars and Uranus? Heads rolling on the collective stage. And yet, for modern astrologers, Demon Star Algol’s placement in a natal chart highlights the transformative potential that begins with confronting our deepest fears and karmic baggage. In other words, with Algol in the mix, suffering is not something you will be able to ignore; rather, it is an energy that must be confronted and assimilated.

Crystal Vaults echoes this sentiment, writing, “Perseus serves as an allegory for cutting ties with destructive patterns or toxic relationships that no longer serve one’s growth.” When we embrace rather than fear the shadow work associated with our natal Algol and interpret these ancient symbols through an alchemical lens, we emerge with more strength and dignity than we ever imagined possible. Dawn Glinski of Kepler College speaks to a type of “Agol Anxiety” that sets in when natives discover a personal planet in close proximity to the Demon Star, traditionally associated with misfortune. And yet “there is no shortcut to personal growth; if the process were easy, then we wouldn’t refer to it as growing pains,” writes Glinski.  Astrology tells us that hard aspects create pressure that becomes strength; the same principle applies to so-called malefic celestial bodies like Algol and Medusa (who has her own asteroid now in addition to her place at the heart of the ‘Blinking Demon’).

One might think of Algol conjunct one of the personal planets, Ascendant or Midheaven as a more ‘prominent’ placement.  While it can be fun to sensationalize the demon’s many guises, a more neutral approach to the energies might look like seeing Algol’s activation as a catalyst for significant life changes, a wake-up call or an opportunity to solve unresolved issues blocking our full potential. Crystal Vaults terms Algol energy as a “vortex of intensity” which compels us to examine both the depths of our powerlessness and the heights of our wielded power. If we were like Ana Mendieta (Algol opposite Sun, an exact degree I discovered I share with the artist during the course of writing this piece), we might make work prophesying our own murder, a reality which, by feminist accounts at least, came to be true. But what if we asked something different of the Demon Star? What if we used it to foster empowerment through self-awareness and conscious decision-making?

In the case of Ana Mendieta, we see that Algol’s complexity of emotions –  passion, anger, and resilience – seems to perfectly fit the bill. Anyone else triggered by the 1985 New York Times headline proclaiming “Sculptor Accused of Pushing Wife out Window to Death?” Why is Mendieta the ‘wife’ and Andre the ‘sculptor?’ If he was merely accused, why do many feminists believe it was murder? Why, several decades later, do members of the activist groups WHEREISANAMENDIETA and Sisters Uncut still protest in her defense? Clad in black and clutching roses as if for a funeral, protesters outside the Tate Modern in 2017 chanted continuously: “OI TATE, WE’VE GOT A VENDETTA – WHERE THE FUCK IS ANA MENDIETA?” and “ANDRE, ANDRE, ANDRE, WHAT YOU GONNA DO, WHAT YOU GONNA DO WHEN WE COME FOR YOU?” and “I WAS PUSHED — I DID NOT FALL.”

We may never know how Mendieta died, only that her work tells us she knew what was coming on some level. What we do know is exactly what the conflict and the visibility of these protestors several decades after Mendieta’s death in 1985 says about the state of the Art world, male privilege, profit, business as usual, violence, and cultural erasure. We know that Anna is not only dead, but that Carl Andre’s work is included in the TATE Modern’s extension, in place of hers and at her expense. If you know Mendieta’s work, you know her Scorpio Sun expressed with absolute mastery what we could term the ‘wrath of Medusa’ against the patriarchal abuse of nature, mother rape, and the denigration of female sexuality.

According to Crystal Vaults, Algol often ignites a consuming passion that brings buried emotions to the surface with irrepressible force. Unsettling, yes, but are we resigned to all the violence, or can we reboot Algol, reclaiming hidden parts of the self to facilitate greater authenticity and emotional liberation? “Those willing to meet its intensity with honesty and courage discover that the Demon Star is better understood as a star of initiation: the celestial guardian that strips away what is false, dissolves what no longer serves, and leaves in its place something genuinely, irreversibly stronger,” writes Crystal Vaults. Can we privilege courage and ingenuity over aggressive impulses and gory revenge? Can we come to view our inner monsters less as dark entities, more as fearsome allies that need our compassionate understanding, patience, and ultimately integration and reclamation? Or are we content to let the Trumps of the world take the bad rap? While President Trump does have the Demon Star on his Midheaven, which represents ‘public reputation,’ we all have Algol stationed somewhere within our chart. We all have all the archetypes, just in different ratios.

Astrologer Nick Kollerstrom details several notable world events that align with Algol, including the worst-ever Foot-and-Mouth epidemic, which struck Britain in 2001, when Saturn in Taurus came within a degree of Algol. Saturn in the constellation of the Bull conjunct Algol? Upwards of 600,000 cows were burned. How about the end of the French Monarchy coinciding with the eclipse of May 1790, conjunct Algol. While the Reign of Terror ended abruptly as Saturn had finished transiting Algol, the French would keep their Guillotine until the 1970s.

D.M. Hoover notes that Hurricane Sandy, one of the most devastating hurricanes in American history, leaving approximately 200,000 people homeless, occurred as the South Node of the Moon hit Algol. During Hurricane Katrina, amongst the five worst hurricanes to ever strike the United States, killing at least 1,833 people, all four angles of the event’s chart were stressed by fixed stars. With the Midheaven conjunct Algol, the Chinese interpretation of the Demon Star, Tseih She, or ‘Piled-up Corpses,’ became a reality before our eyes, not to mention the looting, gang violence, and mayhem that ensued in the aftermath of Katrina’s widespread flooding. Lastly, Hoover highlights a critical Algol event involving the Pele Volcano in Hawaii. In 1902, with the Moon conjunction Algol and Mercury in the 12th house of death and dissolution, a massive volcanic eruption killed all but two people in the immediate area.

I’ll add to that the release of K-Pop Demon Hunters in June of 2025 as Chiron (Wounded Healer Asteroid) transited Algol, making an exact conjunction the day the movie was released. A famous K-pop girl group named Huntrix secretly fights demons to protect the world. Full of high-energy concerts with supernatural battles, the film focuses on themes of friendship, identity, and inner struggles. It gained 130 million views within the first six weeks, dominating international film records. As their soundtrack became the fastest album by any Asian act to reach three billion streams on Spotify, topping real-world charts, the fictional group HUNTR/X hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart.

Though it is often found in the horoscopes of criminals, having a prominent Algol obviously need not lead to that. Before we get into the personalized Algol insights by house to follow, let’s look at some prominent Algol placements. As a fixed star, reading of Algol placements should be restricted to both a close orb (1-2º) and either a conjunction or opposition.

On the astro-feminist tip, freedom-fighter Joan of Arc (Algol conjunct Saturn) was burned at the stake. Dancer Isadora Duncan (Algol conjunct Pluto) died as her scarf caught in the car’s rear wheel. John Lennon (Algol conjunct Uranus) was shot in the back. As noted in discussions about their public legal conflicts, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard share Venus conjunct Algol in their horoscopes.

Iraqi war leader Saddam Hussein has his Mercury conjunct Algol, opposite Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio. Not only was Hussein’s travail double-charged with Lilith’s potential dubiousness, but his synastry with Iran’s leader Ayatollah Khoumeni reveals a critical Sun-Mercury-Algol matrix. Ultimately, the cosmic tango of the two war leaders played out as the longest war of the 20th century, during which over a million died.

Bernie Madoff, American financier, con artist and mastermind of the largest known Ponzi scheme, had his South Node or Dragon’s Tail of soul-evolution conjunct Algol. In his case, “perhaps the picture of piled up corpses evoked by this star is reflected in the number of people who fell victim to his record-breaking Ponzi scheme,” writes D.M. Hoover. With Venus also joining Algol at the South Node, Madoff’s ultimate demise, including pleading guilty to 11 federal felonies, was a result of his Venusian shadow in the form of an “obsessive pursuit of material self-indulgence,” concludes Hoover.

Demon Star conjunct Ascendent  *Truth Serum or Beautiful Lies?*

When situated on the Ascendant, the Demon Star affords a splendid, illustrious life. A glorious, mighty and commanding nature. Outspoken about taboo subjects, this native isn’t afraid to be controversial. Blessed with fame and bountiful resources, these folks often become well known or feared by the masses. Relationships prove dramatic and intense. Appearance has a strange kind of appeal despite not being classically beautiful or handsome. Even attributes that might be shocking or disturbing in some way still seem somehow alluring…

Using mass communication to speak truth to power, Medusa at the Ascendant screams angrily, with a protruding tongue like Kali, activating the throat and third-eye chakras. Algol here might also take the form of ‘Frankenstein,’ in which human intelligence evolves faster than consciousness. Treading the fine line between life/death, madness/wisdom, Demon Star Algol is truth serum, or filthy lies. Outrageous America actress, screenwriter, and sex symbol Mae West, famous for her sexual innuendos, had a natal Algol conjunct, Ascendant. With the snakes in the crown symbolizing spiritual antennae and kundalini rising, this native may be the mouthpiece of ‘far out’ ideas way ahead of their time.

Demon Star conjunct Midheaven *Shielded by the Dark*

An Algol Midheaven native makes their name with their mystique. There is something very striking about them. While typically not classically appealing, those who admire them are drawn to their misfit or outsider status and look. One may be involved with mass media, as if playing a dramatic and contested role on the global stage. One may be accused of vanity when, in reality, one feels incredibly self-conscious. Even if these people do happen to be beautiful, they often still feel ugly. People look their way, or they may be subjected to surveillance. It’s important here that natives penetrate to the deeper meaning of the shadow role one plays for others, clearing away any projections that seem to have stuck to them like static cling. Actress Uma ‘She’s more than a little haunted’ Thurman has Demon Star Algol conjunct Midheaven.

Other notables with Algol Midheaven include Frida Kahlo and Trump. Roxannamundi notes that on the day of Trump’s first attempted assassination, Mars (violence) and Uranus (shocking turn of events) transited his Algol Midheaven. Apparently, the shooter had natal Mars conjunct Uranus, aligning with Trump’s natal descendant (an angle often signifying projection), opposing Trump’s Mars/ascendant. Interesting to note that while Trump has as yet evaded the bullet, Black Freedom Fighter Malcolm X (Algol conjunct Sun) and Martin Luther King Jr. (Algol conjunct North Node) were killed by assassination.

Part of Fortune conjunct Algol  *Billion Dollar Baby*

The alignment of Part of Fortune and Algol in a natal chart signifies a potent celestial merger where the potential for luck/abundance meets the volatile, transformative, often violent energy of “Demon Star” Algol, suggesting high stakes, crisis consciousness and a personal destiny linked to a vortex of power dynamics. A karmic point for confronting darkness, Algol conjunct Part of Fortune requires a deep commitment to shadow work, potentially bringing immense fortune after intense trial. Perhaps sudden, shocking events lead to great fortune. A high-risk, high-reward placement – there is immense potential for both success and/or severe downfall. This native’s greatest fortune and purpose (Part of Fortune) are unlocked ala challenging, ‘fated’ experiences (Algol). Confronting powerlessness or forces of external control to achieve liberation, this placement is characterized by themes of rage, passion, destructive patterns or sudden unexpected loss. Facing external challenges head-on leads to massive financial freedom. Born of humble origins in Barbados, Rihanna went on to become the first Black woman to build two separate billion-dollar brands, backed by Natal Part of Fortune conjunct Algol in the 2nd house of earned income. With Algol illuminating hidden pathways to healing and self-actualization, the reward for greater self-awareness is increased authenticity, immense strength, emotional resilience and spiritual protection.

Demon Star conjunct Dragon’s Head  *Rippling Horror or Self-Realized Serpent Power?*

When the Dragon’s Head (karmic path and life purpose) aligns with Algol, it signifies a life journey ripe for confronting innermost fears and undergoing profound metamorphosis. Diving deep into buried emotions and past wounds, this soul is paving the way for significant personal evolution, heightened spiritual awareness and a newfound sense of strength across all spheres of existence. Algol charges the Dragon’s Head with strong, intense sexual energy that has the potential to be wonderful, or if repressed, vengeful and violent. Algol’s strong consuming passion could easily devour this native with anger and rage. It’s critical to contain the unconscious compulsion to take revenge, channeling passion into a more productive, transformative outcome.

Drawing this native toward realms that involve profound emotional insights, trauma healing and transformative experiences ala psychology and occult studies, this placement involves tackling one’s deepest fears head-on and requires immense bravery. Shadow work and therapeutic reflection on the quest for spiritual enlightenment prove instrumental. American author Stephen King, best known for his horror novels, has a Natal Demon Star conjunct Dragon’s Head. King, a quintessential master of horror still alive to see many of his books turned into movies, once nearly died after being run over by a truck, and yet, seems to have made a miraculous recovery.

Sun in Scorpio opposite Algol in Taurus *Ego Death*

The Sun in Scorpio, opposite Algol in Taurus, signifies an intense, transformative life path, often involving deeply cathartic or chaotic experiences. The opposition highlights a direct confrontation with powerful, raw energy, frequently bringing themes of intense passion, creative genius, or, conversely, severe anxiety and dramatic life changes. The Sun (ego and life path) faces off with ‘Blinking Demon’ Algol, creating a lifelong need for emotional catharsis and transformation. Algol can bestow intense, ‘out-of-the-box’ creativity or artistic talent, often leading to a ‘genius’ or visionary reputation. As previously noted, I share this aspect, as well as the birthdate November 18th, with Ana Mendieta, the Cuban-American performance artist best known for her prophetic, eco-feminist “earth-body” artwork. With energies of Algol and the Sun commingling, this native is built to destroy or create. It is thereby crucial to find constructive outlets for all the raw power, avoiding destructive, polarized scenarios. Forced to confront the most hidden, intense and primal urges, the opposition facilitates personal growth through transcendent crisis.

I’ll briefly mention that November 18th, the date coinciding with the point of the zodiac and the time of year when the Sun in Scorpio faces off with the Demon Star, is also the peak of an auspicious Leonid Meteor Shower. As our Earth crosses the orbital path of a comet, showers of meteors radiating out from the constellation of Leo, representative of the Lion’s mane, become visible to the naked eye. Every 33 years or so, the shower becomes a storm, as meteor speeds increase to 100,000 meteors an hour. The rapper Drake ironically has a song titled ‘November 18th’ commemorating the day that brought Hip Hop Godfather Lil Wayne into his life. Although lesser known for his Scorpio stellium or Grand Water Trine, with such heavy water influence, let’s be real, Drake is one sensitive stinger. Seven heavenly years after the last recorded meteor storm, on November 18th, 2008, Drake fatefully connected to his soon-to-be mentor, Lil Wayne (a date he memorialized in the song November 18th, off his breakout 2009 mixtape So Far Gone).

Jupiter conjunct Algol  *Brutalism En Vogue*

Jupiter is the most celebrated rapest of all time. Medusa’s myth here underscores a patriarchal pattern of victim-blaming; her ability to petrify those who look upon her is a metaphor for reclaiming spiritual sovereignty for the feminine and warding off evil. Considered a ‘warding’ star used for protection, Jupiter’s influence only intensifies Algol’s protective quality, acting as a shield against malevolence. The alignment of ‘Great Benefic’ Jupiter and Algol in a natal chart signifies amplification of the Demon Star’s fearsome, transformative energy ala Jupiter’s expansive nature. Historically associated with tragedy or “losing one’s head,” the conjunction can also manifest as immense creative power, protection, or wealth if the individual maintains high integrity. A potent celestial merger, Jupiter acts as a magnifying glass – enlarging Algol’s themes of primal power, female fury, or intense transformation.

Many artists with this placement, including Picasso, used the demon star’s ominous energy to revolutionize their fields through visceral or shocking creative expressions. Not only was the Father of Cubism known for parroting African art to revolutionize the field of painting, but his visceral and shocking creative expressions also reflected his violent treatment of women, as noted by his daughter, ostensibly the only woman in his life he didn’t harm for his art. Kollerstrom credits the Jupiter-Algol conjunction for the brutalism of works like Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, a painting about sex work from the perspective of the client. On the bright side, this conjunction is linked to victory in conflict and spiritual breakthroughs. In the 2nd house, it may indicate wealth acquired through unconventional or speculative means.

Algol Conjunct Venus *Fated Doom or Genie in a Bottle?*

Venus (love/money) conjunct Demon Star Algol (radical alchemy) is a potent astrological aspect signaling intense passions, extreme magnetic charm, and the potential for dramatic, transformative experiences in partnership. This native’s life is punctuated by passionate, sometimes volatile relationships, in which they might feel ‘possessed’ or risk ‘losing their head.’ Before counting on misfortune, consider that the suffering involved in this placement is an opportunity to reclaim personal power and experience the ultimate in inner renewal. This native must be prepared to radically alter how they love and value themself. Often associated with remix energy, Algol can indicate profound talent in art, fashion, or any field that involves transforming beauty. When not attracting tumultuous events, the Demon Star often grants an irresistible allure. Mirroring the myth of Medusa, this aspect highlights themes of injustice, forcing natives to navigate complex scenarios of disempowerment to reclaim autonomy. Intelligent, strong, bold and of an adventurous nature, caution around any tendency towards lying.

Princess Diana, the ‘People’s Princess’ aka ‘Queen of Hearts’ described life with her husband King Charles III as “real, real torture” before dying in a car crash beside her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed. As if giving a brilliant expression to the Venus-Algol contact, much like Medusa, Diana succeeded in becoming even more powerful and majestic after her death.

Demon Star in the 1st *Capsized or Captivating?*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Paris Jackson

Algol in the 1st house signifies a powerful, intense and magnetic personality. Linking the Demon Star’s themes of power, sudden fame/infamy, captivating beauty and violence/transformation directly to your core identity, physical appearance and how you present yourself to the world – dramatic shifts in self-expression lend you great strength. As if you were the embodiment of intense, transformative power, this placement demands conscious engagement with themes of beauty, control and radical change. The more you embrace your authenticity, the more you become a leader and trendsetter in your own right. The closer Algol is to your Ascendant, the greater the impact of the demon star’s fury. Perhaps you feel as though others can’t truly see you. Striking presence and magnetic charm feel like a double-edged sword, propelling you forward when not attracting intense power struggles or jealousy. Projecting immense power and charisma, you easily draw people in, often attracting a great deal of scrutiny in the process. Deeply involved with power – this is a lifetime of cultivating self-awareness and control. In a life punctuated by transformative moments, expect dramatic turns of events, radical self-reinvention, and courageous risk-taking. Old identities must be ‘severed’ in order to integrate new awareness. Don’t let pent-up aggression or impulsivity lead to self-destruction, physical danger, or accidents.

Rx: Vanilla Cold Brew Oat Milk Latte

Given its demonic proportions, part of me was mildly concerned about publishing this BEAUTYSCOPE. Even though the month of May coincides with the Sun’s annual transit of the Demon Star, you wouldn’t necessarily know it. Safely as far as possible from Scorpio (sign of death and the underworld, the ‘female mars’ of the zodiac opposite Taurus season) the month of May tends to scream flowers, fresh growth and forward motion. And yet, with Demon Star in the house of the warrior, a little pushback goes a long way. In fact, Demon Star in the Mars-ruled 1st house requires a little wickedness to get out of bed  in the morning. Introducing the truly ‘Wicked’ as in, inspired by the major motion picture, Vanilla Cold Brew Oat Milk Latte by POP & Bottle.

Same great taste, just a little more wicked! As “beautifying” as it is pretty to look at (the latest Glinda-glowup rendition comes in a pink skinny can) POP & Bottle serves up cold brew like no other.  This date-sweetened clean caffeine alternative is made with fair-trade organic coffee, pure oat milk, MCT oil and 3000 mg marine collagen that will make your hair, skin & nails glow. Reduce stress levels without compromising productivity. Supporting a robust immune system with no-sugar-added house-made richness. Naturally creamy with a subtly sweet, toasted oat flavor, POP & Bottle lattes are also available in matcha, churro, mocha or caramel.

Demon Star in the 2nd *Radical Beauty*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Rihanna

Algol in the house of earned income often signifies high-stakes financial environments or an ‘all-or-nothing’ approach to acquiring wealth. Algol in the 2nd house suggests a profound struggle with self-value. Perhaps you experience cycles of total destruction and rebirth in how you perceive your own worth. If channeled constructively, this placement can grant an indomitable will to secure stability, often through facing deep fears or navigating crisis-prone industries. Harness the relentless energy of this star to fuel your ambitions, just ensure you have a “stable base” to prevent all the restlessness from turning into burnout.

In medieval astrology, Algol was used for protection. Maintain high ethical standards in your business dealings to shield against Algol’s more chaotic and malefic effects. Transformative financial strategies are the key to success. Practicing compassionate detachment toward material goods assuages the panic typically associated with the demon star. Ask yourself, what has been accumulating so much that it has taken on a life of its own? It’s time to make room for fresh growth. In myth, Pegasus and Chrysaor were born out of Medusa’s severed neck, suggesting that both beauty and love can be radical.

Rx: Buddha Bouquet Pajamas

In the Taurus-ruled house of earned income, the power of the Taurus-Scorpio axis aligns this native with all the tools necessary for absolute self-mastery. With Scorpio (8th House) representing the underworld/transformation and Taurus (2nd) representing steadiness and fertility, the balance of the two energies is an invitation to stop externalizing our pain. When we release victim consciousness, we can apply the wisdom we’ve learned in service of our 2nd house values. Not only does the annual full moon in Scorpio fall during Taurus season (this year’s Flower Moon occurs May 1st), it coincides with what is called ‘Vasek,’ a festival celebrating the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death. Which is precisely why your Taurus-ruled 2nd house Demon Star Rx is Buddha-inspired PJ’s built for the most tranquil sleep states imaginable. On a mission to soothe souls, S.O.S (Soothe Our Souls) came into existence following the founder’s first majestic trip to India. With lounge wear as colorful and kind as the people of India, think hand-sewn, 100% cotton sleepwear made for Buddha Babes. Complete with natural shell buttons, these PJ sets are block-printed and hand-stamped with wooden blocks carved by craftsmen in India. Embrace the possibility of peaceful sleep-filled nights with Buddha Bouquet, one of the companies best sellers, the exquisite floral design is perfect for blossoming spring romance turned hot summer nights! Demon Star in the 3rd *Strange Fruit*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Billie Holiday

Algol in the 3rd House signifies intense, potentially volatile currents in the realm of communication, media, learning, siblings, and short-distance travel. Often associated with sudden violence, shocking truths, or chaotic expression, Algol represents radical shifts in thinking. With a rebellious and unconventional mind, you make a splash with strong convictions and sudden flashes of insight. Perhaps you become known for your sharp tongue, brutal honesty, controversial opinions or need to speak uncomfortable truths. Often tied to conflict, rebellion, sudden revelation and profound inner transformation, consciously integrate your demons to avoid always taking a fight-or-flight approach to daily life.

Perhaps the 3rd House Demon Stars make you known for your brilliant communication and rebellious ideas. Using your voice to cut through illusion and protect against harm, you may have experienced censorship or spoken words that provoked or polarized your audience. While you can be fiercely loyal and protective of those you love, there’s also potential for intensity in relationship. Channeling the Medusa head as ‘inner Gorgon’ of raw, primal feeling, you reincarnated to transform fear into power. In celestial alignment with deep psychological healing, this is a lifetime of cultivating greater authenticity via self-actualization. Utilize journaling, dreamwork, or meditation to help you explore hidden aspects of the psyche. Expect challenges in communication and potential for conflicts with siblings, neighbors or coworkers. Ask yourself, where does your speech, way of speaking or life story need editing? Can you call on a mentor with a more objective view?

Demon Star in the 4th *Tragedy or Transformation?*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: India Westbrooks

Algol in the 4th House signifies intense, potentially volatile themes around home, family, roots and emotional foundations. Perhaps you’ve experienced control issues, power struggles  or deep psychological confrontations on the home front. A powerful, transformative placement, keep in mind the Demon Star is not inherently ‘evil,’ but rather, requires mindfulness. Often materializing as sudden upheaval (accidents or separation) within domestic life, it’s as if family dynamics put you on an emotional roller coaster. Themes of victimization and powerlessness are common. When unexpected events force the family out of its comfort zone, self-awareness and the ability to let go are a boon. Often indicating a powerful, intense, or challenging relationship with the mother or primary caregiver, Algol brings deep-rooted psychological patterns to surface.

Learning to distinguish truth from illusion in family matters, practice compassionate detachment, even if it rocks your foundations.  Literally or metaphorically – this celestial alignment spells upheaval! Witness all that suppressed anger demanding self-awareness. Confront the shadow self to turn struggle into strength. Transform inherited emotional patterns to access authentic self-empowerment. Expect challenges and conflicts within the family or in matters related to the home.

Rx: Calcium Chew Complete

As if cutting an umbilical cord, it is time to expand beyond what is comfortable and known. When something rocks the cradle of your foundation, explore the deeper meaning of your discomfort, grief and fear of the unknown. Do you know that humans are the only mammals that drink milk post-infancy? While there are some cases of adult goats observed nursing themselves as a stress response, it is only we humans who seemingly take our indulgence in ‘mother’s milk’ to the grave, despite stats suggesting that up to 68% of the global adult population has some form of lactose intolerance. While we’ve long known that diets rich in calcium prevent the risk of low bone density and osteoporosis (for women ages 19-50, the National Institutes of Health recommends 1000mg calcium a day), how to safely absorb it into your system is another puzzle. Having been off dairy for a few years now, I was relieved to find Calcium Chews by Seen Nutrition. Packed with calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, mushroom-derived vitamin D, and protein for superior bioavailability, they’re not only tasty and uber digestible, they’re date sweetened and made with just four whole foods.  Naturally delicious, gluten-free & lactose-safe,  each chew delivers 500 mg of dietary calcium and 400 IU of vitamin D and protein to support bone health. Dr. recommended and third-party tested, the chews were developed with leading experts in food science at Cornell’s Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture. With fifteen chews per bag, they make the perfect afternoon nosh with their nutty-caramel-like flavor.

Demon Star in the 5th *Fame or Controversy?*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Liz Taylor

In the 5th House of love affairs, art, play, parenting, sports, fun, self-indulgence, entertainment, and gambling, this alignment suggests intense, fated, potentially volatile experiences, bringing dramatic breakthroughs or crises related to romance, childbirth, or creative expression. Demanding mastery over inner demons and powerful self-expression, expect power plays, rights of passage, ego-death, sudden changes and transformation. Creatively, Algol in the 5th offers a boost, possibly even strokes of genius. Perhaps you’re channeling transformative, shocking themes into your art, projects or performance. Love affairs are passionate and obsessive, often involving power dynamics, sudden beginnings, or fated encounters. Issues with children (or the idea of children) prove challenging, or alternatively, bring immense power and growth. Perhaps you experience public drama related to your creative output or personal/romantic life.

In order to feel empowered (rather than bludgeoned) by the Demon Star, treat this as a catalyst to face your ‘shadow self’ (hidden angers and self-destructive patterns). Channel empowerment through self-awareness to break limitations and harness intense experiences for profound growth. Along the 5th/11th house (Leo-Aquarius) Heart-axis, Ego-axis, Individual-Group axis or God-Human axis, you are learning that you will never have a 100% approval rating! Blame for failures that are not yours is the payment for Godliness. Opposite the 11th house ‘community above all things,’ the 5th house claims ‘individuality above all things.’ Like its ruler the Sun, 5th house natives think the world revolves around them. Once you realize others will never see you as normal, you can take your rightful place as a leader. Expect challenges and potential for conflicts in matters related to creativity, self-expression, and romantic relationships, often experienced as creative blocks or self-doubt.

Rx: Enchantment Gel

Be open to new daemons, as the 5th house can easily become a pleasure labyrinth! Don’t let ‘ultra play’ take the place of genuine, authentic acts of creation. Demon Star in the 6th *Whistle While you Work*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Jhene Aiko

Algol in the 6th house signifies intense, often fated, experiences related to daily work, service or health. Crystallizing themes of power, transformation and potential conflict therein, to avoid the harsh karmic lessons of Demon Star Algol, confront your control issues with consciousness and compassion. Work life is anything but mundane, involving karmic lessons, high stakes, draining power dynamics or significant self-sacrifice. Conflicts with coworkers or adversaries must be resolved with steady self-awareness. Cut through emotional fog to act with more clarity. Turn misfortune into self-mastery by confronting personal ‘shadow’ aspects related to work, service, health and daily habits. Making lemonade out of lemons.

Don’t let compulsive perfectionism or martyrdom hinder self-actualization. Perhaps you experience a sudden, debilitating illness or a miraculous healing. Physical health issues can be sudden, intense, or linked to past-life issues – thus requiring a deep, transformative and healing approach rather than a quick fix. A lifetime of transforming your relationship to duty and responsibility, utilize consistent self-care, physical exercise and nutrition to prevent chronic conditions before they develop.  Caution around challenges in the workplace, including health issues related to stress, conflicts with colleagues or job-related accidents.

Demon Star in the 7th *Eating the Other*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Jaden Smith

Algol in the 7th house signifies intense, transformative, and often volatile partnership dynamics, characterized by passion, jealousy, or power struggles. Mirroring the myth of Medusa, perhaps you undergo dramatic betrayals or severe conflicts, as if being ‘turned to stone’ by your other half. Dramatic, high-stakes relationships land you with partners who may be intense, jealous, irrational, passionate, or possessive. Perhaps you often ‘lose your head’ in relationships, attracting beloveds who are exceptionally intense, controlling, or monstrous. Perhaps you become enmeshed in a brutal divorce or legal dispute. Manage emotional intensity to prevent destructive scenarios.

Despite the inherent challenges, Algol strips away relational superficiality to highlight the type of growth that leads to healthy evolution and miraculous timeline shifts. Can you find the courage to talk honestly about contracts, stated and unstated? Can you separate out shadow projections to acknowledge who is bearing the other’s what? For those dealing with abuse, consciously work with the Perseus-Medusa myth to feel your righteous rage and take back your power. Have no fear! Remix and reclaim, says the Demon Star. After all, Warrior Princess Athena gets her mojo by wearing Medusa’s head on her breastplate.

Demon Star in the 8th *Doom Spiral or Phoenix Risen?*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Britney Spears

With Algol in the 8th house of sex, death and other people’s money, you are invited to confront karmic patterns related to intimacy to achieve liberation. With this challenging placement, Algol reflects a potential for conflicts related to shared resources, including inheritances and joint financial arrangements. Perhaps you experience significant windfalls through inheritance or divorce. Kudos if you’re breaking cultural taboos or modeling the right use of power. In the subterranean 8th house realm of transformation, sexual trauma or dysfunction are among some of the most common manifestations.  One of the psychic houses, Algol in the 8th, deals in power dynamics, control issues, psychological depths, soul merging, and shadow work, suggesting profound upheaval, heavy karmic lessons, and an opportunity to face fears. Amplifying 8th house transmutation with explosive strength, Algol heightens control dynamics, challenges to agency, feelings of powerlessness, literal or metaphorical death, rebirth and most importantly, deep psychological healing. With catharsis nothing less than volatile, obsessions demand mastery as the shadow rears its ugly head. When overwhelming suppressed emotions (anger, passion, jealousy) surface forcefully, they are asking to be felt and integrated. Confront hidden fears to achieve self-mastery or spiral into further disempowerment and denial.

Rx: Snake Serum

On the path of radical spiritual transformation, shadow work yields exponential growth. Just as snake symbolism has long been revered in Goddess-worshipping cultures for its association with prophecy and kundalini wisdom, snake venom has long been used traditionally by ancients for its visionary and divinatory properties. In the holy temples at Erechtheum, the serpent child of Pallas Athena revealed the oracles’ prophecies while being fed cakes of honey by local priestesses. In the 8th house, ruled by ‘Female Mars’ (Scorpio), your Algol Rx is nothing less than a biomimetic peptide inspired by Temple Viper Snake venom. Brought to you by Intoxicated Cosmetics, Snake Serum delivers powerful venom-based actives to smooth the appearance of lines around the forehead, eyes and mouth. A luxurious, daily-use anti-aging formula, Snake Serum is powered by clinical-grade SYN-AKE® peptide, proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in as little as 7 days. If you’re looking for a Venom-inspired alternative to invasive injections – look no further! How does it work? Powered by clinical percentages SYN-AKE ® peptide, a formula based on ectothermic animal venom and plant-based stem cells, Snake Serum improves circulation, hydrates skin and stimulates collagen and elastin production to improve tone, texture and glow.

Re-densifying skin from within, the serum smoothes deep wrinkles while visibly reducing and preventing mimic wrinkles. Additional ingredients include MossCellTec™ No. 1 (strengthens the skin barrier, protecting against pollution and harsh climates), Green Tea Extract (fights UV damage, reduces irritation, redness, and swelling), Licorice Root (soothes skin, evens tone, and provides antioxidant protection) and White Tea Extract (reduces oxidative stress with powerful antioxidants). Hardly your average skincare guru, Intoxicated Cosmetics founder Rachel Sommers love affair with venom began with bees. “Bee venom contains Melittin, which can break through disease barriers like HIV and cancer. It’s used to treat Multiple Sclerosis. And that’s just the start,” claims Sommers.  Years later, her brand is now conquering the market with venom-inspired skincare powerhouses that mimic injectable results. Demon Star in the 9th *Monstrous Expansion*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Zsa Zsa Gabor

Traditionally the house of Jupiter, Algol in the 9th can manifest as a ‘vortex of intensity’ in one’s belief systems or academic pursuits. The 9th House governs higher learning and ethics; Algol carries the mythos of Medusa’s severed head. As the bindi illuminating the third eye of gorgon Medusa, Algol in the 9th house signifies a powerful intersection between intense, often ‘monstrous,’ primal energy and the high-minded themes of wisdom, law, and long-distance travel. Because Algol is a variable star that changes brightness, one’s relationship with 9th House themes (luck, faith, optimism, expansion) may fluctuate dramatically, appearing ‘demonically’ dark one moment and brilliantly clear the next. Perhaps you espouse extreme or even ‘dangerous’ views that challenge societal norms. Driven to explore the ‘shadow’ aspects of religion or law, expect challenges and potential for conflicts in matters related to higher education, travel or spirituality. Look out for karmic imprints related to one’s past life’s religious authority. With a piercing intellect capable of seeing through falsehoods, examine how you wield spiritual or moral authority— is your intention empowerment or control? Sometimes perceived as a ‘heretic’ or social outlier, perhaps academic or spiritual paths involve significant crises or symbolic ‘beheadings’— that is, the metaphorical collapse of old worldviews leading to rebirth. A mind-opening celestial alignment, stay off the soap box and expect sparks to fly!

Rx: Field Trip

In the 9th, Algol affords fierce spiritual protection when traveling or living abroad. In the house expansion, higher wisdom and long-distance travel, it’s time for a Field Trip! That is, fast-acting, dissolvable oral strips that deliver a full phytonutrient serving of fruits and vegetables in just one melt-in-your-mouth tab. Demon Star in the 10th *Tower Moments*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Solange Knowles

Algol in the 10th house signifies intense, potentially violent, or disruptive energy related to one’s career, public image and ambitions, often linked to sudden falls from grace, notoriety, (symbolic) decapitation themes, or simply a powerful, shocking public life. Much like the Midheaven placement discussed above in the notorious lives of Uma “She’s more than a little haunted” Thurman, Frida Kahlo and Donald Trump, Demon Star in the 10th typically involves extreme fate in public-facing roles. Requiring courage to integrate shadow aspects for true empowerment, the 10th house Demon Star reveals a highly visible career destiny tied to power and shadow work (one’s own or society’s). There is a potential to achieve authentic self-actualization with major public impact, often through dramatic boiling points. Does your life feel like a public spectacle? Has your career, persona or reputation become a prison? A divine intervention is at hand. Like the ‘Tower’ archetype of tarot, think of this as your spiritual ‘get out of jail free’ card. Are you willing to undergo ego-death to skip the level? Perhaps you deeply feel the rather disturbing impact of mob mentality, violent disruptions, or dangerous power struggles. The greater your influence and authority, the greater the risk! Consciously work to address difficult feelings like rage and grief head-on: healing and reclaiming sovereignty by confronting what’s hidden or dismissed by society at large. Expect challenges and potential for conflicts in career matters, including reputation and public image. When lightning strikes, consider that you drew it to yourself.

Rx: Private Reserve Exotic

Demon Star in the 11th *Lone Wolf or Pack Animal?*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Sharon Tate

In the 11th House of friendships, groups, hopes, and ideals, this alignment suggests powerful but potentially disruptive connections that seed radical social change and the total overhaul of former ideals. Algol in the 11th suggests intense, powerful, potentially volatile social environments. Friendships feel fated or bring about sudden changes. Perhaps you’re involved in radical or transformative groups that demand responsible handling of power, conscious choice, and loyalty. Maybe you feel betrayed by your so-called ‘tribe,’ or challenge authority within the group. Struggles with self-control or feeling controlled by social structures are common. Are you living for others to the point of losing your center? Do you refuse to be in any club that would have you as a member? Do your intentions serve the common good? If not, you might just get beheaded! Maybe you’re the scapegoat of your circle, is it you they’ll eat?! Cultivate enlightened detachment, be discerning with your affiliations and don’t take things too personally. Channel frustration consciously to turn it into empowerment. If handled with care, this placement can be a catalyst for profound personal change related to friends, networks and ideals. Bringing suppressed emotions to the surface within the community, this is a breakdown before the breakthrough placement!

Rx: Firming Korean Face Mask with Hydrolyzed Collagen

While the aforementioned astro-insights largely discuss the interpersonal dimensions of 11th house Algol, lest we forget the house of networks is also the Aquarian-ruled house of mad scientists, technological innovation and future-forward visionaries. And don’t take it from me, in clinical studies, 97% showed improvement in skin elasticity, 100% showed a boost in moisture and glow.

Demon Star in the 12th *Devotion or Undoing?*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Lauren London

This alignment suggests powerful, often hidden, transformative energy, highlighting themes of power dynamics and self-undoing in the subterranean shadowlands. Expect intense subconscious patterns at work in the 12th House of spirituality, secrets, hidden enemies, isolation and sacred ecstasy. Perhaps prophetic, unsettling insights keep you awake at night. Perhaps you find yourself struggling with destructive urges, sudden emotional outbursts, inner demons, feelings of powerlessness, or suppressed rage. Rather than feeling like a victim of hidden forces, channel intensity into creative acts. Maybe you feel suddenly overcome by uncontrollable artistic or spiritual forces that, when faced, offer profound liberation and uncanny insight into psychic truths. Ideally, this placement manifests as immense, raw creative power or psychic ability, best channeled through art, music, or spiritual work. Call on devotional practices, meditation, dream work or therapy to confront deeper subconscious patterns. From immense shadow work comes emotional catharsis, particularly liberation from self-imposed limitations and karmic wounds. Gifted with an ability to pierce through illusion, psychic awareness blossoms via difficult experiences or contact with unseen forces.

Rx: Seaweed Soup

Facing inner darkness helps you cultivate profound resilience and self-understanding. In discovering why you sometimes feel powerless, you learn to wield inner strength more responsibly. In the house representing oceanic consciousness, karmic dissolution and cosmic soup, your Algol Rx is Mother-made food as medicine. Brought to you by OMA (it means “mother” in Korean), the brand powering everyday routines with Korean food-as-medicine traditions, this nutrient-dense, antioxidant-rich snack is a force to be reckoned with. Expertly blended with collagen-rich bone broth, OMA Seaweed Soup promises the authentic taste and advanced nutrition your body craves. Founder Yondjé Choi started OMA conjuring up blissful memories of the slow-simmered broths her mother made her while growing up Korean French in Paris. Building her family business at the intersection of heritage and convenience, Yondjé’s love affair with seaweed soup deepened when, following Korean postpartum traditions, her Mom flew to New York to prepare traditional homemade miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) for her every single day.

A mother twice over with the birth of OMA, Choi now delivers it to you in petite, freeze-dried cubes. As delicious as it is ethical (seaweed is the most sustainable nutrition on Earth), merely add a cup of water and you’re ready to enjoy the comforting, savory, nourishing broth in just minutes.  Option to add in some steamed veggies or protein of choice.  It’s already packed with seaweed for digestion and energy, naturally high in gentle, prebiotic fiber that feeds good gut bacteria and promotes steady energy. Sea vegetables are naturally high in essential minerals like iodine, making them ideal for promoting hormone and thyroid balance, helping the body find equilibrium through all phases of womanhood. Meanwhile, calcium, magnesium, vitamins (A, C, B12), and omega-3 fatty acids afford anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting support. Not to mention the bone broth base for recovery and hydration, with added collagen for skin wellness. A warming, uber nourishing way to replenish electrolytes, rebuild muscles, and hydrate cells after movement, OMA soup is made to be enjoyed at home, at work, or New York style, while walking! In the name of nature’s wisdom and maternal care, indulge in a daily wellness ritual for the modern culture nomad. Available in Beef Bone Broth or Vegan options.
