I know I shop during a time when new products are sprouting up like mushrooms, and it’s hard for me to stick to something more than a few weeks. Before you can blink, I’m off to test the next brand of strand-perfector that looks both eye-catching and affordable. And just when I think I’m definitely not going to find value in a bottle, I came across the new (or should I say, newly re-launched) line of Herbal Essences Shampoo and Conditioners.
Bright as berries and sparkling like tinsel, the solid bottles colored in fuchsia, lavender, mandarin orange and other Crayola-box colors leapt from the shelves. Before long, I was in the shower happily slapping on oodles of blue Hello Hydration shampoo onto my shoulder-length hair.
Not only do the colors make a splash, but the new Herbal Essences’ bottles are fun to read. There are some pop quizzes at the back of each shampoo (with answers found on the pair’s conditioner), and vice versa. The best part of the collections’ new offerings is that you can find products that really target your hair’s unique needs: hydration, broken or split ends, colored hair, frizzy or grimy tresses. You can also choose ones based on your hairstyle preference: curly, straight or voluminous.
The names are also catchy and fun, like Sit-coms: Break’s Over (guess what it fights?), Hello Hydration and Drama Clean, are just a few. I loved the coconut and orchid scent of the Hello Hydration shampoo and conditioner, which cheekily boast, “let me soak it to you,” on their labels. Dangerously Straight made my hair pin-straight (and for the record, my hair is straighter than Lindsay Lohan’s, so it’s really tough to make it any more linear – but this formula did the job!). The best part is that I did not have to add extra style or hold spray after rinsing my strands with the conditioner. It has a humidity-resistant formula and also contains emollients that add moisture to the hair without weighing it down. A+!
For those of us plagued by split ends and frayed strands (ahem, who isn’t?), Break’s Over worked better than my pack hair masques I use once a week. I was told that this formula leaves hair 95% stronger against damage and twice as shiny as normal shampoo, and I’m not asking for a refund anytime soon. For $2.99 per bottle, you can definitely stock up without breaking the bank. Plus, your locks will love you for it!
