Beauty Mark

Recently, I received a frantic phone call from my friend Meredith. She is heading to a wedding in Cape Cod this weekend in a pale orange. I didn’t know that orange comes in pale, but that’s fine-bridesmaid’s dress.

“You should see how pale I look,” she said. “Oh, wait a minute! I’m so pale you can’t even see me.” What Meredith required was a good sunless tanner.

So, let me tell you about some particularly noteworthy finds: A good product for body tanning is Estee Lauder’s Go Tan Sunless Towelettes. They come individually wrapped (similar to handi-wipes), thus taking the guesswork out of how much to apply. Really nice for a streak-free tan…Another favorite of mine this season is the Lancome family of Flash Bronzers – especially Flash Bronzer for your legs. It’s tinted, so you can easily detect any missed spots. “And,” one of our testers raved, “it dries quickly. So you don’t have to stand around in your undies for hours!”

Now, let’s talk about the face. One has to be careful with tanning the face, especially for sensitive skin. Two standouts are Clarins’ Tinted Self-Tanning Face Cream, which is mild and goes on smooth, with a muted color and no wild smell; and Bobbi Brown’s Sunless Tanning Gel For Face and Body ($27.50), which deserves high praise for being totally non-greasy and providing great color not both face and body.. A tester says, “It’s so nice to get everything from just one product.”

The surprise hit, however, in overall satisfaction is Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Foam. Everyone I know is swearing by this-for doing everything from creating great natural color to evening out terrible sunburns-and at less than ten dollars a pop, it is a steal. The deep color, especially, won rave reviews.
