Amika Newness: Low Maintenance, High Impact

During the summertime (and, let’s be honest, year-round), I like to keep my haircare routine as low-maintenance as possible. The ultimate lazy-girl routine includes no blow-drying, no lengthy in-shower treatments, and as little product as possible. As someone with decidedly high-maintenance curly hair, I’ve been achieving this effortless ritual with help from two recent Amika launches.

Superfruit Star Lightweight Hair Styling Oil boasts hair that’s 7 times stronger and 2 times smoother with 86% less breakage. I can’t speak to these exact numbers, but what I can tell you is that my hair loves this oil. So many oils on the market don’t sink into hair strands, but rather sit on the surface and make them appear greasy. This one absorbs quickly into my dry hair, leaving it soft and manageable. I use this as a leave-in on wet hair, to tame frizz on dry, and throughout the week whenever my hair needs some attention. It’s my new favorite hair oil, and I love that it only takes a second to apply, but produces long-lasting results – and improves the integrity of the hair over time.

The other new Amika product I’ve been loving is the Midnight Mender Overnight Strength Repair Treatment Mask. This is clinically proven to repair signs of damage for 9 times stronger hair by morning — a lofty claim, but I believe it. I’ve often said I wish there was a “dry conditioner” I could use after spraying my hair with dry shampoo, something to add moisture back into my hair after refreshing it, and this does exactly that. You can use this on damp hair if you want, but in my opinion, the most magical way is to use it on dry hair that needs to be revitalized in between washes. I either smooth it over my curls or comb it through a blowout, go to bed, and wake up with beautifully-scented soft hair. Like the oil, it’s easy and low-effort – it takes 5 minutes or less to apply.
