The House of Chloé has a prestigious collection of exclusive fragrances that celebrate the art of floral composition, each dedicated to a single botanical specimen. The fragrances within Atelier des Fleurs are meant to be layered with one another or worn alone as preferred, and they are undeniably gorgeous.
Timeless icons from Chloé such as Chloé Eau de Parfum and Chloé Nomade have become household names, so it’s no wonder this newer collection is masterfully crafted. They aren’t your average designer scents – no sugared fruity florals or amber vanillas here. Each one is an ode to its namesake, pure homage to various blooms and herbs. I had the delightful opportunity to try a few of them, and they have found a permanent place in my fragrance collection.
Magnolia Alba is cheerful, luminous, and clean – a truly uplifting scent of creamy magnolia petals. Louise Turner masterfully blended the lemony nuances of the flower (inspired by the trees in her native England), unveiling a soapy freshness perfect for a spring or summer day. This one feels like a smile in a bottle.
Lavanda is a fresh bunch of the aromatic herb, blended without the sharp masculinity that often comes with lavender. Creamy, soft, with a whisper of verdant lushness (there’s a bit of a grassy note), it’s a unisex-leaning-feminine take. Quentin Bisch was inspired by visions of his mother in his childhood garden, a bunch of lavender clasped in her hands.
To my nose, Rosa Damascena is a watery pink rose, crisp and pure with the slightest tinge of spice. I think of the powdered softness of petals, only as sweet as nature itself allows. Amandine Clerc-Marie also sought inspiration in childhood as she blended, remembering the roses in her garden from long ago.
Violette is powdered purple, a gentle rendering of the vivid blossoms that seem to glow on gloomy days. Fanny Bal was so affected by such vibrance that she composed this scent, a candied, plush, and nostalgic take on violet.
The new Cedrus Intense by Quentin Bisch and Louise Turner is a deep exploration of cedarwood, a more multi-faceted version of the original Cedrus. Sparkling bergamot, cardamom, leathered rose, Indian sand vetiver, Australian sandalwood, and smoky Chinese cedar create a sillage that dances between fresh and woody. Perfectly unisex, this truly smells like standing in the middle of a fir wood.
Atelier des Fleurs is home to a charming selection of floral olfactions, many sourcing inspiration from the perfumers’ youthful memories. Wearing them is like revisiting a familiar garden, enchanted by childlike wonder – an otherwordly symphony of scents filling the air.
