Tips to ReBoot + Overcome Seasonal Affective Disorder

The winter solstice this week officially marks the darkest days of the year. Everyone is bundled up, heading inside, making the best of the season. But some folks deal with Seasonal Affective Disorder; about 3 million people in the US each year. I am one of those people, and this year has been no different. I’ve had ways of coping with the gray days through prioritizing my physical well-being, which in turn, helps my mental health. Some ways I’ve done this is through spending time on wellness, internal care, and comforting myself. Hopefully these suggestions can help you through any tough times you may be having too, beauty babes:

Heliocare Daily Use Antioxidant Formula Capsules
I try to get as much sun as I can. I do my best with sunscreen, even in the winter, but those pesky rays can still damage my skin. So I added Heliocare to my routine. Heliocare is a supplement to promote healthier skin through its antioxidant-dense formula of Fernblock®, a natural extract that protects against free radicals. Heliocare enables me to go out more often with a peace of mind.

The Duo
I want to start with a fresh base. A shower, specifically washing my hair. I know when I’m feeling low my hair is the first thing to suffer. I start with some warm water and let it run over my hair for a minute or two. I grab Mounia’s shampoo, a light fresh scent that doesn’t feel overwhelming. I lightly wash my hair and scrub with a scalp massager to really get into my roots. It’s formulated with rose, aloe, and pomegranate oil for a gentle yet effective clean. I follow up with the conditioner, filled with beneficial ingredients like cumin and flaxseed oil. The aroma is a light spice that gives me a boost in mood, knowing I’m treating myself well.

Aromasoles Socks
Once I get out of the shower, I grab my favorite pair of fluffy socks. Fluffy socks always bring me comfort and when you’re going through SAD, you’ll want to get comfortable. Aromasoles are my go-to, scented with lavender and other herbs, so my feet receive the pamper treatment and I smell like a field of flowers. Scents are a huge mood lifter for me, so I use as many aromas as possible. These socks have grips on the bottom so I don’t have to worry about slipping and sliding as I head to the kitchen for tea.

Fast Asleep Fast-Acting Gummies and Relax Now Fast-Acting Gummies
Tea relaxes me and I add to that relaxation by taking Medterra CBD gummies. Medterra CBD gummies come in two variations: Relax Now Fast-Acting Gummies (which contains CBG, amino acids and herbs) and Fast Asleep Fast-Acting Gummies (which contains CBN, calming melatonin, l-theanine and passionflower). I take the Relax Now when I need to soothe into my body and the Fast Asleep when I’m having trouble catching those Z’s. They have natural fruit flavors such as strawberry and blue pomegranate for Fast Asleep and citrus and tropical for Relax Now. The best part (and unlike other gummies) is that these gummies work in ten minutes, thanks to nanotechnology that created a fast-acting CBG and CBN. These gummies help to ease the stress of SAD for me.

Liven Up Yourself with Papers + Ink
Rainy and cold days often call for some personal time. I grab my jar of lavender and my Papers + Ink</strong> rolling papers. These little babies are so my style. I mean they have cats, polka-dots, mushrooms?!? I personally used their floral paper for a smoke sesh. The papers come in a cute little set with 15 papers, a stick to pack your herbs, and a compartment for filters. I carefully rolled up and lit up the floral goodness. I recommend getting a set if you’re spending the night out with friends (they will die over your star studded paper) or if you’re more mellow and want a night in with your sweetie. Either way you’ll be able to lift your spirits to higher vibes this holiday season with Papers + Ink.

OPEN App
I’ve found solace through wellness apps such as OPEN, a subscription that offers wellness classes and courses, both live and online. Yoga, breath-work, meditation. It’s all in one place with OPEN, whose mission is to strengthen the mind and body connection. It’s perfect for any schedule whether you have an hour or five minutes, you’ll be able to take some time for yourself. There’s a new video every day so there’s something fresh awaiting you when you log on. I also personally love their series, I’m currently doing the 5 Days of Breathwork! This is the perfect app to jumpstart a headspace filled with serenity and calm.

TruSkin Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser
My final tip for easing the SAD is to stick to a skincare routine. Taking the time to care for my face leads to being more present and mindful in my life, even for ten minutes. I start with TruSkin Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser to wash away any dirt or pollution from my skin and start anew with a clean foundation. The foaming suds ease my thoughts as I gently scrub.

TruSkin Retinol Moisturizer
I follow up with my TruSkin Retinol Moisturizer. Retinol helps accelerate cellular turnover and collagen production which means renewed skin over time. This is essential, since harsh winter weather can cause dull, dry skin that doesn’t renew as frequently. I adore that it has Botanical Hyaluronic Acid, which helps to retain moisture in the skin and hold on to water. I feel hydrated and happy after this quick routine, especially when I’m feeling extra low. I know the key is that doing something is better than doing nothing.

Hope these tips will help, and remember: Spring will be here before we know it!
