1 Bag, 4 Styles: Meet Songmont Luna

The it-girl bag of 2025 is not only versatile and high-quality, but affordable – meet the Songmont Luna Bag. This full-grain leather bag boasts four different ways of wear and is available in three sizes and a range of gorgeous colors. I had the chance to put the bag to the test; here are my thoughts.

My Luna bag is in the original size (L 10.43”, W 2.76”, H 9.06”) and the chocolate color, a rich, sumptuous shade of brown that is trending right now, an unexpected hue for spring and summer. The leather is buttery-smooth, a pebbled texture that I’m not afraid to use in everyday life. To me, a bag you don’t have to baby is always ideal; I prefer a more carefree existence when it comes to accessories. Luna has vacuum electroplated hardware, including a signature lock atop the flap.

The inspiration for this bag was the moon, hence its namesake. The creators envisioned a bag that mirrored the moon’s empowering energy, providing the wearer with both functionality and beauty. The soft, rounded shape mirrors lunar fullness; there are no sharp angles here.

How does one wear the Luna bag? I have two favorite styles – first, classically, as a shoulder bag. Carrying it hands-free is both convenient and stylish, and it can be easily slipped off the shoulder for access to the inside. I am also completely enamored with the crescent style, another nod to the moon – the shoulder strap is removed, and the clasps at each end come together to form an adorable shape that you can hand-carry. Although the compartment becomes slightly smaller in this form, it’s perfect for evening wear, and the look is totally different. I am going to be taking Luna with me to Paris this summer, and I can’t wait to carry my essentials during the day, then match it with an evening outfit as the sun sets.

The third way of carrying Luna is just a step beyond the crescent style; simply loop the shoulder strap through the handle, then attach it to itself, and you have a bracelet bag. This look is modern and effortlessly cool. Finally, the bag comes with a separate, longer strap that turns Luna into a crossbody.

I’m so glad Luna was my first foray into the Songmont brand. Founded in 2013, the company draws inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the Orient, and is based in Beijing, China. Founder Song tells the story of her mother Ms. Fu, a skilled seamstress, creating the perfect work bag for her daughter when Song could not find what she was looking for. Ms. Fu then assembled a team of seasoned craftswomen with an average age of 65 – the “Granny Team” – to handcraft more bags, kickstarting the Songmont journey to market. Today, the “grannies” are still involved with the company in various ways, sharing their deep knowledge and life wisdom. I love that the brand prioritizes not only craftsmanship, but respect for elders and tradition, too. Songmont is affordable luxury at its finest.
