Urban Shine at Ann Yee S/S 2014

Wednesday morning kicked off our Spring ’14 fashion week coverage with a presentation by designer Ann Yee. Inspired by the urban history of Detroit, Yee captures the metallic aspects of the auto industry and linear qualities of historic buildings through her collection titled, Resurgence. The looks were a wonderful blend of structural dresses with angular detailing and metallic knitwear, primarily in white and muted pastels.

Makeup by MAC cosmetics brings the metallic look full circle through silver eyes and luminescent faces. The skin is kept minimal and bright with MAC Pigment in Lilly White buffed on to the cheekbones and top of the nose, with a subtle warmth added to the lips using MAC Casual Color in Keep it Loose. The dramatic chrome eyes are created with MAC Silver Pigment brushed in the inner corners, over the lids just past the crease line, and slightly extended out towards the temples.

To get a toned-down version of the look, MAC lead makeup artist Fatima Thomas recommends making the shine less dramatic by applying less pigment to the eye and adding white eyeliner to the lower water line, giving it a blended look. Another tip she suggests is to pump up the mascara. Thomas explains, “on the runway, the lack of mascara can work because its conceptual, but as a real girl, I gotta have my mascara!” Us real girls out on the sidewalk, we need our mascara.”
