The Row Spring 2014: Chic Serenity

Not all those who wander are lost”; a theme made clear at The Row’s SS ’14 collection show. The mood was set by endless airy muslin drapery that turned a stark gallery space in SoHo into a serene escape. This season Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen displayed a simplified and refined Row woman, inspired by a nomadic sensibility, drawing the color palette and silhouettes from Morocco and desert landscapes. Sticking to a color palette of rust, cream, and black, monochrome looks were layered but not overdone.

For spring, they delivered a graceful collection with global influences. Their idea was to draw from “true American culture,” according to Mary-Kate, even if the inspiration originally came from photos of India during British colonial rule. “We wanted to focus on true American culture, which is about taking elements from different cultures all over the world and bringing them together.” The two did so brilliantly, incorporating global references without ever being too literal.
