This Sunday, September 26th, is New York City Apple Day. Apples on Orchard is an annual event that pays tribute to the Lower East Side’s long historical connection to apples. Did you know that in the 1700s, the Lower East Side was once an apple orchard owned by Farmer Delancy? All the street names make sense now, don’t they?
Come by Orchard Street (between Broome and Grande) between 11am and 5pm on Sunday and experience this one-of-a-kind street fair celebrating all things apple. There will be live musical performances, retail booths and endless varieties of apples from upstate farms. Local restaurants will be incorporating the apple into their dishes. |
I can’t think of a more appropriate festival for celebrating the first weekend of autumn (I though it would never arrive!). Not to mention that your body, bones and teeth really like apples too. Apple eaters are said to have a significantly lower risk of major cancers and significantly trimmer waistlines. So go ahead and have two a day. Maybe even a few more this Sunday…
