The spring 2011 ADAM collection was inspired by the style and spirit of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s character in James Ivory’s film, The City of Your Final Destination. “This season our girl is defined by ease, refinement and simplicity. The collection focuses on soft color palette punctuated by hints of rust. The silhouette is expressed by the juxtaposition of structured elements against a more delicate fabrics, such as lace, eyelet and chiffon.”
This ladylike collection with flowy fabrics, pretty peaches and a punch of poppy, paired perfectly with the super-soft makeup by Romi Soleimani for M.A.C. Romi explained (while applying Light Bright M.A.C. shadow with a Q-Tip) that, “This collection is a nod to 70’s modern.”
She wanted a look that was lived-in look and when the shadow creased, it wasn’t touched up. The icy blue shadow was inspired by denim and paired with Derailed (also a cream eye shadow) used on the cheeks and lips; the face was bare for dewy and fresh look.
Nails, by Deborah Lippmann for Deborah Lippman.com were uniform in flesh tone beige. The look was sheer and feminine.
Hair by Rudi Lewis for Bumble and Bumble was made to look easy, fresh and young. Rudi told me that he used Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray at the ends and a touch of Spray de Mode and pulled the hair into a tight ponytail, twisted and pinned for a, “samurai bun.” He said, “It’s so easy that even my assistants are doing it to their own hair. It’s so wearable!”
This all came together on the runway for an All-American, fresh look that made me sad warm weather is coming to an end. High-waisted pants, handsome blazers, flowy eyelet dresses and colored denim made for a wearable collection. And one thing’s for certain: Bell bottoms are back in a big way.
