As a residential curly-girl I have a deep relationship with my afro. It’s beautiful, big, and brings all the attention in the summer. But some days I simply need a break from fluffing, twisting, and babying my coils. So I made my way to the Bronx to AmourNtingz for sleek Knotless Braids.
What are Knotless Braids?
Knotless braids are a more natural styling compared to box braids. A box braid is made when the braider creates a knot (box) with the added hair and braids it down. It had a boxy shape that is a bit thicker than the knotless braid. The knotless braid, the braider feeds in the hair, piece by piece. It creates a seamless and uniform braid that blends with the natural hair.
Knotless braids are perfect for summer vacations that include hiking, swimming, or need for less time spent on hair styling.
The Braiding Experience
The Prep
Once I arrived to AmourNtingz studio, Desiree, the owner and braider, greeted me. Her bubbly personality made me feel welcomed and comfortable instantly.
Desiree started by washing my hair, detangling with conditioner, and applying a treatment to my strands. I had a two week wash-n-go so this process was absolutely divine for my roots. She had a gentle approach in detangling through my hair and left my scalp feeling refreshed.
Next up was the blow drying process. I have a ton of hair and usually it takes me over an hour to blow dry. With Desiree, she had me blow-dried in about thirty minutes. I didn’t feel any hard tugs on my hair and was left with stretched hair ready for braids.
The Braiding Process
I have to say the braiding process can be brutal. Sitting for a long time is hard but Desiree made it easy. She has the fastest fingers for sectioning my hair and it was extremely straight and clean parting of my roots. When she started braiding it was like 1-2-3 with the hair being added and braiding down my natural hair with the extensions.
I spent ten hours in her chair but it was so fun with our girl-chats about life, relationships, and astrology (she’s a Scorpio!). When I was feeling hungry she provided a snack box with fruit snacks and chips for me to enjoy. I was so comfortable that I even fell asleep in the chair as she was braiding. My experience was overall positive with Desiree!
The Final Result
After our whole day together, bonding and chatting, it was time for the finished results. I adored my new hairstyle. The vibes were classy, clean, and that girl! I felt and looked amazing.
