The Body Mist Edit

When you want a burst of fragrance without the scent concentration of an eau de parfum, body mists are your best friend. You can overspray as much as you want and spritz them on linens and in the air without feeling like each spray is worth $25, and without smothering the people around you in scent. I have been on the hunt to find the best ones on the market; here’s what I’ve come up with.

Lush Cosmetics recently released 5 new body sprays in their Lush Club Drops, a line of limited products made in micro-batches with heavy influence from the community. My absolute favorite is Super Milk (a fluffy lemon custard dream), but all of them are some of the most long-lasting, unique smelling body sprays available on the market. Karma smells like their cult-class patchouli bomb of a soap; Strawberry Feels Forever is a sticky-sweet-yet-fresh bowl of strawberries and cream; Blue Skies & Fluffy White Clouds is a meditative dose of earthy frankincense, just like the bubble bar; and Stormy Weather is a clean, powdery scent that smells like the air after rain. Lush Body Sprays are incredibly long-lasting and smell like heaven – they are no brainers for this list. Shoutout also to my two favorites from their regular collection, Sakura (sugared cherry blossom and mimosa) and Sticky Dates (my favorite gourmand of all time).

Another mist I’ve been loving is from Ellis Brooklyn, and it’s called Marshmallows. This is a creamy, playful scent – think white clouds, milky musk, and delicious vanilla orchid – that manages to smell different from any old vanilla body mist. I was also impressed by the packaging – a sturdy glass bottle – and scent profile, which is elevated and blended to perfection. Perhaps you’re looking for a grown-up version of an old favorite (Pink Sugar, anyone?) or simply want to smell gourmand but not childish – this one is perfect.

NOYZ is a relatively new fragrance brand known for their asymmetrical bottles. While I have yet to try the eaux de parfum (Unmute is on my list!) I have tested their fragrance mist in the scent Salty. This is a beautiful scent that subtly evokes the seaside with notes of pink sea salt, coconut water, driftwood, and marine accords, but the addition of golden waterlily ensures this stays firmly in the category of aquatic floral (it’s not overly tropical). I love this as a refresher any time of day – out of the shower, before leaving the house, etc. – as well as on my bedsheets.

Le Monde Gourmand’s new Fresh Mists are such a pleasure to use, with their skin-loving ingredients and infusion with electrolytes. The fragrances themselves are also top-tier. Sel Océan is refreshing with pink sea salt, honeysuckle, and coastal woods, while Lait de Coco is a warm hug of sheer jasmine, sunlit bergamot, and creamy vanilla praline. The liquid in this one is a creamy white, which makes it seem all the more nourishing and elevated.

Saffron & Cedar by Salt & Stone is a particularly exciting pick due to its similarity in profile to the now-infamous Baccarat Rouge 540. Personally, I prefer the Salt & Stone version. It’s a smooth, sweet, woody sillage of its namesakes, as well as neroli, jasmine, oakmoss, and sugarcane. On skin, it comes to life, warming to an addictive degree. These mists are infused with glycerin and red algae to leave skin soft. The scent also comes in a variety of products, from deodorant to body cream.

This list would not be complete without the Phlur Body Mists, which have gone viral on a number of social media platforms. These deserve every bit of the hype, especially my favorite, Heavy Cream, an indulgent, lactonic blend of marshmallow, coconut cream, vanilla mousse, and whipped cream. This somehow manages to be light and airy in its decadence, and I love spraying it after any of my gourmand perfumes to enhance my scent bubble. Other favorites are Vanilla Skin, a year-round easy reach that’s a bit woody and not too sweet, and Beach Skin, a blend of salted florals and sweet coconut that smells like tropical heaven.

Speaking of tropical heaven, if vanilla and coconut is what you’re after, there is only one answer: Kaanapali Coast by Kopari. This fragrance mist comes from one of the most popular clean brands on the market, and was their signature scent before it was made into a perfume mist. Rather than a fresh, beachy scent, this is a delicious, edible vanilla cream and coconut shavings concoction that can definitely be worn year-round. It’s also allergy- and dermatologist-tested, and made with upcycled ingredients.

Finally, By Rosie Jane recently came out with a line of Body & Hair Mists, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Birthday Suit due to my love for their Rosie perfume. Although not the exact same scent, the notes looked similar, and I absolutely love how this brand does skin scents. Birthday Suit is musky and pretty with tangerine water, sweet apple, and lemon blossom, providing the same effect as Rosie in its subtlety. Though the notes might indicate otherwise, it’s not a fruity scent, but rather a soft aura of clean sensuality. I can’t get enough.
