A new flanker of Commodity’s iconic Milk fragrance is hitting shelves on September 2 (and on the Sephora app, August 31). Created in collaboration with Emma of @Perfumerism, Milk Orchid is a lush, paradisaical take on the cozy, lactonic goodness of the original. Emma has previously mentioned in her content her desire to find the perfect milky scent, reviewing fragrance after fragrance on her quest – so this release feels like a magic moment for her. I had the pleasure of getting a sneak-peek of the new perfume.
For me, Milk Orchid opens with a burst of fragrant florals – my immediate thought was tiaré, though I’ve come to find it’s magnolia, an intoxicating white flower with citric nuances. Immediately, the profile smoothes and softens into a velvet plushness that marries the fruitiness of fig, chewy and ripe, with the cool, mellow subtlety of a just-cracked coconut. Macadamia milk adds extra lactescence. Overall, the effect is that of a glass of sweet, pure coconut milk, garnished with an exotic white blossom.
I experienced Milk Orchid like a swift, short film of both scent and sight – first the bright verdancy of white petals, then the supple comfort of the flow of fresh cream, and finally the dry, lingering warmth of a bowl of sandalwood chips, adorned with a bundle of black vanilla pods. Its coccooning sweetness never veers gourmand, though it’s delectable in its allure. On her endeavor to create her perfect milk perfume, Emma has unwittingly created my perfect coconut one. I need a full bottle immediately.
