The team at Beauty News NYC got the distinct pleasure of interviewing the pioneer of a revolutionary and proprietary skin treatment that is non-surgical, non-invasive, and most importantly, effective. Our Q&A with Kim Laudati, founder and CEO of SomaCell, highlights Kim’s background, her life-changing protocols, and what’s on the horizon!
SomaCell is uniquely grounded in science, but also in tune with beauty and wellness. How did the concept evolve from medical technology into a beauty innovation?
I was excited to find this technology being used extensively in Europe and Asia for rapid wound healing and pain management. Upon a deeper dive into the science, I see that the medical treatments are becoming popular here in the States. There is an extremely basic body and face treatment from a manufacturer overseas, but when I secured receiving a treatment, I was underwhelmed. The result was nothing more than what any of our treatments here do. I almost walked away but my gut instinct said there is something here. I dove in, researching for 6 months, then spending 2 1/2 years in dedicated development of what is now my proprietary SomaCell face and body protocols. The magic is in my protocols with the tech. Having the tech alone is not efficacious enough in medical aesthetics to reach the end goals of a non-surgical facelift. We are now trademarked in the US and 33+ countries, patent pending and the tech is FDA cleared.
For readers new to the brand, how would you describe SomaCell in a few words? What sets it apart from traditional treatments like radio frequency, ultrasound, or microneedling?
SomaCell is the only “non-surgical facelift” that does not use heat to wound in an effort to lift and tighten. We work in harmony with the body, strengthening connective tissue, stimulating somatic stem cell activity and exosome release, repairing existing elastin and structural support, while promoting the formation of new collagen, elastin, and connective tissue. It’s like renovating a house from the foundation to the roof.
Your background bridges advanced wound healing and aesthetic science. How does that medical foundation influence SomaCell’s protocols and results?
The technology has been proven for rapid wound healing since the early 2000’s. “Repair and regeneration” are the two keys to true “beautiful longevity.” We can repeatedly heat up skin to wound it, forcing repair but the future of true no-downtime treatment is here with SomaCell.
The other wonderful effect of working with the body instead of fighting it is that patient’s will see rapid visual results that are cumulative. The facial contours and quality of skin improve within weeks, while continuing to improve naturally over the months immediately following completion of their initial series. It might sound corny but SomaCell is “the gift that keeps on giving.”
Many “skin-tightening” technologies still rely on heat, needles, or controlled injury. Can you explain the science behind SomaCell’s acoustic wave technology and how it differs from those approaches?
To keep it in laymans terms, SomaCell has a “pebble in the pond” effect. The connective tissues are targeted for repair and regeneration with gentle acoustic waves. These waves then radiate outwardly to pleasantly stimulate repair and regeneration of the skin layers.
My favorite description is “Picture cells on a dance floor. The center cells (connective tissue) are dancing. This empowers the cells surrounding the center to join in. It’s a huge party that results in a lot of “babies.” (New cellular growth) Instead of burning or microwaving tissues to stimulate rapid wound healing, we throw you a party. The good vibes/after party happiness stays with you for months.
The phrase “beauty the way nature intended — supported, not stressed” really stands out. What does that philosophy mean to you, and how does it show up in the SomaCell experience?
Supporting skin and the entire structure of your face, of your body, is what we at my clinic IT Intelligent Treatment, and respectively, SomaCell is all about. We want to support natural longevity in the most beautiful ways possible. While SomaCell is like that popular cool kid in school that gets along with everyone, we do blend well with neurotoxins, heat based devices, natural injectables like PRP and surgery.
However, we are the new gold standard for standalone skin tightening. There is no pain, no downtime, no sun withdrawal time. All skin colors, no matter how dark, can be treated along with all adult ages and genders. You don’t even have to wait to apply makeup, if that’s your thing. It’s so easy-peasy; SomaCell fits right into your lifestyle.
SomaCell is designed to be effective across all skin tones, types, and genders — something not all aesthetic technologies can claim. Why is inclusivity such an important part of the brand’s DNA?
There is a daily avalanche of information, a lot of it that is untrue or misleading, that patients are bombarded with daily. Providers that do not keep up with constant continuing ed are left in the dark. Between these two major issues, patients struggle to create a realistic, appropriate “wish list,” and providers often struggle to decipher the right treatment path to actually reach those goals. For many clinics and practitioners, aligning expectations with outcomes is not easily accomplished. SomaCell is simple – Can we treat dark skin? Yes. Can we treat you even if you’re leaving for vacation tomorrow? Yes. Can we treat over short facial hair without pre-shaving? Yes. Can we treat over body hair of any length? Yes. Can you go straight to your event afterward? Yes. Patients don’t have to fear pain, burns, downtime, or waiting months to see results. And for ethnic skin, especially the darkest skin tones, patients are often emotionally worn down by hearing about “amazing” treatments they’re not candidates for. It becomes a constant barrage of no, you’re contraindicated. SomaCell changes that conversation.
Can you walk us through SomaCell’s full suite of offerings, including face, body, and any specialty treatments?
SomaCell treats face, sides of neck, décolleté/upper chest, triceps, biceps, abs, waist, love handles, thighs, saddle bags, pantyline “banana roll,” above the knee laxity “knee rolls” and buttocks. The natural BBL results have satisfied patients who are seeking a non-surgical/non-chemical option. Patients of any adult age can be treated and are educated in that SomaCell is a lifting and tightening treatment – we are not weight loss. For GLP-1 users, we pair SomaCell treatments from the start, thus avoiding “Ozempic face and ass,” however patients should not expect to drop pounds. Bodywise, they should expect firmer, smoother, more youthful skin. For chest to face, we are not reducing volume, we are reducing inflammation and restoring that more youthful look and feel. We “put it back where it belongs.”
For someone considering their first SomaCell session, what can they expect from start to finish? How quickly do results appear, and how long do they last?
A facial and body program typically starts with a series of 6 treatments – face once weekly, body twice weekly. For patients with tight schedules, we can treat in bulk, but results still unfold on the same timeline, as cellular changes take a little time to become visible at the surface. We begin with a consultation (with or without same-day treatment), where we review health, lifestyle, and goals, followed by a physical evaluation of the area(s) of concern. From there, we create a truly bespoke plan and begin treatment. Facial results are often noticeable within the first three treatments – usually three weeks or less. Body results are more patient-dependent but are commonly seen and felt between weeks three and six. With lifestyle considered, results can last eight to twelve months or longer.
We’ve seen impressive before-and-after photos and heard glowing reviews. What has the response been like from both patients and practitioners so far?
I’m proud to say that my years of dedicated work have paid off – we have an organically growing fan base due to the happiness of both patient and practitioner. We are now trademarked in more than 33 countries and adding additional countries. SomaCell will continue to lead the natural longevity space, evolving next into AI-driven applications and, ultimately, a home-use device.
