Pack the car and take the whole family for a weekend getaway they’ll never forget. Ideally located about 2 hours from Manhattan, Woodloch Resort is the perfect place to bring the whole family (and extended family) for a convenient and activity packed bonding experience that kids and kids at heart will absolutely love.
My husband and four children, along with grandparents, enjoyed a serene and beautiful evening drive to the famous Pocono resort. Though we arrived after dinner service was over, check in was a breeze. The staff packed up a delicious 3-course meal to enjoy in our tastefully rustic apartment-like room(s) while our toddler twins slept in the bedroom in resort-provided cribs. Breakfast the next morning did not disappoint. Stuffed with pancakes, gourmet frittatas, hot chocolate (and coffee for mom!), we enjoyed the indoor playground and video arcades before the morning’s activities commenced. From trivia to the Olympics, there is always a long list of games and activities to enjoy throughout your day. Our family – ages 2-72, enjoyed Bean Bag Bingo, bumper cars and snow tubing all before sitting down to another delicious meal.
After lunch, the whole family flexed their creative muscles during a Super Bowl themed “Gingerbread Wars”. We all felt like we were on a reality television show as we concocted our favorite super bowl commercial using gingerbread, rice krispie treats, frosting, fondant and every candy topping imaginable. Needless to say, my kids were having the time of their lives and not even the nippy air outside could squash their excitement. We spent the rest of the afternoon go-carting, ice-skating on the open-year-round ez-glide rink, riding ponies around a camp fire and extreme snow tubing. The delicious sit-down dinner was equally enjoyable and the photo op with cookie monster was the icing on the cake. Our server John truly deserves a major shout out for his patience as he indulged our many requests for seconds (and thirds) of practically everything on the menu!
The night was complete with a fantastic and entertainingly funny magic show. Once all the kids were in bed, my parents and I enjoyed a top-notch musical review of Woodloch’s favorite showstoppers followed by a hysterical (and family oriented) comedian, Lucas Bohn. My husband opted to stay back in the room with the kids but babysitting booked in advance is available. That’s definitely something to keep in mind – especially if you want to enjoy some relaxation and romance in the nearby Lodge at Woodloch spa.
The next morning was spent at the indoor pool and splash area. Though you won’t be able to fulfill your daydreams of lying amongst palm trees and sipping margaritas at the swim-up bar, I was totally able to sit back and relax in the hot tub as my kids (under grandparent supervision) took full advantage of the kiddie splash pad, splash zone and corkscrew slide.
The winter is a fabulous time of year to visit, but we will definitely be back to enjoy Woodloch throughout the other seasons as well. My kids are already demanding we come back to sail and swim in the lake, go zip lining, enjoy the playground and go for hikes throughout the gorgeous landscape. I can only imagine the fun festivities they have planned for the upcoming Peter Cottontail weekend and Easter holiday! Woodloch does a stellar job from check in to check out and we can’t wait to return for more family fun!
