It all begun with my brother, Addis, telling me about someone who had asked him to visit Mexico for a potential music gig.That wasn’t out of the ordinary because he’s a musician, so promoters and artists always contact him for potential gigs and opportunities – but this time, it was for a trip to Mexico to visit Rohan Marley’s new hotel, RoMarley Beachhouse in Porto Morelos, Mexico. Rohan Marley is an entrepreneur and one of the sons of reggae legend and musician, Bob Marley, so the hotel pays homage to his father’s legacy.
First time, Addis traveled to RoMarley Beachhouse by himself during the pandemic to enjoy relaxation and sun-filled weather in Mexico and to escape the cold winters of New York City. However, the next time, my brother invited me to accompany him on his music residency there. I have traveled and toured as a DJ, but this time felt different. After I had my son, I took a break from traveling and music, and also due to the pandemic. So this was my time to enjoy the sun, relaxation, excellent cuisine, cocktails, all while playing music with my brother, Addis, in paradise.
The RoMarley Beachhouse is a chic, modern property with vegetarian-driven cuisine, music filled with live bands and DJs and an eventful getaway from the traditional foot traffic of Cancun. We performed for the guests of RoMarley Beachhouse and Fives Hotel in Downtown Playa Del Carmen. My brother played his instrument, the melodica, and I DJ’d his music productions and my set. My time at the Rohan Marley Beachhouse was well spent and I had a chance to enjoy spa amenities, room service, and naps. As a new mom, naps are rare… all mothers know this to be true. As well, Mexico’s amazing weather, views of the ocean, and poolside lounging made my trip worth it.
