Never underestimate the power of your lips to transform your face, much in the way eyebrows do. I did not realize what a little lip filler could do for my face until I visited Dr. Jodi LoGerfo, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, at Orentreich Medical Group, and she injected my lips with Teoxane RHA Collection Redensity. I admit that the idea of lip filler was scary to me, having seen too many overdone lips. The idea of anyone knowing I had lip filler made me never want to try it. Now, I can honestly say that you need to forget anything that ever frightened you about lip fillers and take the needle plunge.
With that said, however, it is vital to have an experienced doctor or other trained technician, perform your lip filler injections. In addition, you must ensure that you have the type of filler that is best for you. “Dr. Jodi,” as she is called, recommended Teoxane for my lips since I was doing it for the first time, and it was a thinner filler. I also said that I did not want too much filler and just a subtle plumping. First, numbing cream was applied around my lips, and then, after about 15 minutes, it was removed. Dr. Jodi was great at explaining what she was doing, and what I would feel. I cannot say that the injections were painless. The top lip injections were the most painful, even with numbing cream and lidocaine mixed in with the filler. But the pricks were fast, and I was told to breath deeply, which helped.
When the injections were over, I had no idea what to expect. Dr. Jodi handed me the mirror, and all I could say was, Wow!! The Wow factor of lip filler overcame me, and I immediately forgot the discomfort. I said, “No way” “What?” Dr. Jodi smiled and said, “That’s what everybody says.” I totally believe it. I have not had such an immediate, positive reaction to any other procedure I have had. All I could think of was why I had not done this sooner.
Before I left, Dr. Jodi gave me an ice pack to sit with for a few minutes, and recommended that I continue to apply it later, which I did. I bounced down the street with my naked, and fuller lips, feeling so confident and youthful. Those who know me would not believe that I went in public without lipstick or gloss, but I did. I realized that I was trying to enhance the look of my lips that had thinned with age. Now I did not need to cover them up. Instead, I wanted to show them off. It was liberating.
Later that night and for the next few days I did have bruising, and a little swelling, mainly on my top lip and the area above it. I generally do not bruise easily with other injections, but my lip area was sensitive. I covered the bruising with makeup if needed, for a few days. Despite any discomfort and bruising, my lip filler treatment was a resounding success. Teoxane Redensity filler can last up to 12 months, depending on the individual, but 6-9 months is also possible.
