A treat keeps me going through undergrad and here are four brands that ease the stress of studying on campus.
Sugar-Free Sweets with Lakanto
I view my treats as treats so on the day-to-day I swap brown sugar for a monk fruit swap from Lakanto. This sugar replacement contains no calories, zero carbs, and is keto friendly. Their Chai Latte is what I sip on in the AM before class. The flavor is mild spice blend that can be made with warm milk or water. I add a pump of their vanilla syrup for extra sweetness. Or for a midday bev, I add the syrup to sparkling water for a cream soda dupe. When I’m at my favorite cafe, Small World, I sprinkle a packet of the Lakanto sweetener into my latte for a touch of sweetness without the sugar rush. It’s a nice addition to cutting back on sugar while enjoying a sweet moment between readings.
Japanese Snacks from Sakuraco ($37.50)
Last month, I sampled the flavors of Okinawa from Sakuraco. For August I received a taste of Mt. Fuji. Like previous boxes it is a blend of savory and sweet treats. The savory in this box wasn’t my taste with the seaweed soy chips (they tasted a little plain to me). Although the jellies were winners to me. The Mt. Fuji Warabimochi contains fresh water from the Yamanashi and is flavored like ramune soda. Plus it’s a bright blue shade that is so striking. The Yamanashi Peach Jelly is a bright peach flavor that is juicy and fragrant. Sakuraco satisfies both my foodie and wanderlust appetites this summer. I’m looking forward to their fall launches!
Boozy Ice Cream from Crème de Liqueur ($79.96)
Though summer is making its way out I still enjoy a sweet frozen treat. I can enjoy it doubly so with a bit of liquor. A post dinner dessert of boozy ice cream comes in the form of Crème de Liqueur. A women owned company run by two friends who partner with small businesses for ingredients. They offer five core flavors and seasonal pints throughout the year. My personal favorite is Pistachio Amaretto flavor which contains real pistachios swirled into the ice cream that add a satisfying crunch in every bite! A grown up treat that satisfy throughout the fall season with Crème de Liqueur.
Small Batch Drinks from BKE Kombucha($49.50)
Packing my lunch for school is not complete without a tasty bev. In my lunch box is BKE Kombucha, a small batch kombucha from Brooklyn. Crafted by physician friends who are focused on health and premium black tea from Assam, India. Each can contains 2 grams of sugar, low cal, and comes in an assortment of flavors. BKE’s Kombucha has a soft mouth feel and is easy to drink. My favorite sip is the Passionfruit flavor with a tropical vibe that transports me to vacation mode between classes. Grab a glass of BKE from Brooklyn Taproom at 310 Meserole St Brooklyn, NY 11206.
