Color was back in a big way at the Oscars this year. And so many of our faves totally rocked their best hues – we’re talking to you Jennifer Lawrence, Eiza Gonzalez, Gal Gadot, Helen Mirren, and Allison Janney. Those Oscar gowns in red, yellow, silver and blue dazzled on the red carpet!
When choosing your best shades for fashion & beauty, one’s hair color should be what guides your choices. Here’s the thing, your hair frames your face – your eyes, your smile – and to look your most beautiful and pulled together, you need to incorporate it all into your color choices.
As we watched the Oscars and saw many of the wrong shades being worn, we just couldn’t help ourselves to some color swapping. So while the designers may have lent these ladies dresses, we lent them our photoshopping skills. Think we’re throwing shade? Well, just a little.
Jennifer Garner in Versace
Jennifer Garner’s hair and makeup were beyond perfection and the style of this Versace gown was pure magic. But with the warmth of her hair color and the nude lip, this shade of blue was a royally wrong choice for her. All the eye sees is dress, and not her lovely face and beautiful complexion. However, change to teal, and Jennifer is truly owning this gown.
Laura Dern in Calvin Klein
The statuesque Laura Dern’s deep honey blonde hair color makes the pure white of this stunning Calvin Klein gown a bit stark and separate from her. We think a champagne white warms up her skin tone and creates an absolutely radiant look.
Salma Hayek in Gucci
The gorgeous Salma Hayek is overpowered by this Disney princess lilac gown as it pulls the focus down and away from her exquisite face. A much better shade and one that is so beautifully majestic on deep brunettes is navy. See how your eye is drawn up from the dress to her face and gives her a more sculpted and striking presence?
Zoey Deutch in Ellie Saab
We are loving this eco friendly Ellie Saab Haute Couture gown on Zoey Deutch, but with her fabulous red hair, we thought we’d weave a warmer and more golden hue in with the silver to pull the attention up to her exquisite features. The go-to metallics for redheads are definitely bronze, gold & copper. See how the recoloring makes her more of a golden girl?
What do you think of my color swap picks? What was your favorite gown? Your least favorite?
