Unforgettable NYC Escapades: Bathhouse and Broadway with My Boo

Summer in the city is all the S’s: sizzling, sticky, and sexy. That’s right, a sexy summer weekend spent with my love. We had to escape the crowds of tourists on subways and decided to have an escapade filled with food, massages, and art. This is our journey that made the weekend unforgettable.

Break free from City Chaos: A Bathhouse Overview

A ten-minute walk from the Williamsburg ferry port is the Bathhouse Williamsburg location. Bathhouse is equal parts wellness, social scene, and a dash of moody fanfare and relaxation (they brand themselves as “not your mother’s spa”). This location has three floors with eight pools, saunas, steam rooms, and a rooftop pool for soaking in the sun.

On-site is a restaurant for delicious bites like sweet potatoes, dumplings, and pastries to nourish the soul in between relaxing in the pools and embracing the saunas. As for the rooftop, there is a snack bar with sweet treats like gummies and juices and salty fixations like truffle chips. I recommend the ice pops to cool off in the heat while chilling in the Daybed.

Our Adventure on a Journey of Wellness (Couples Edition)

My partner and I booked the coveted Couples Hero’s Journey, a multi-treatment that gave us two hours focused on our wellness. The journey began with us visiting the various rooms on the property. The steam room was divine with twinkling lights on the ceiling and a strong herbal scent to clear my nose. My boyfriend loved hopping into the cold plunge afterward to jumpstart his circulation, followed by the hot tub. For a moment of relaxation, we found peace in the neutral pool while sipping on a green juice. We splashed, shivered, sweated, and felt sensual for this hour before our first treatment in the Couples Hero’s Journey.

Mmmm… a Massage for the Spirit

The first treatment was the Pro Massage for both of us. We checked into the therapist station where we were whisked away into the massage room.

The massage therapists listened to my request for an extra-deep tissue massage (I’ve been working out more frequently and needed some work on my legs and lower back). While my partner is a newbie, he had some trouble relaxing, but his therapist walked him through the process. He held his breath, and she gently guided him to relax, breathe, and unwind. Eventually, he did, and we both fell into a state of bliss for our hour-long massage.

Scrub for Two

After the massage, we were sent to the next portion of our journey: the Pro Hammam Scrub. This dual scrub included exfoliating gloves, black soap to cleanse our pores, and buckets of warm water to wash over us. Fresh herbal scents of the soap floated into my nose as sexy hypnotic music pulsed from the speakers. We snuck glances between the washes, and the treatment finished out with a coating of CBD oil to seal in the softness from the scrub. This Couples Hero’s Journey was a perfect day spent getting pampered with my babe. Check out Bathhouse at 103 North 10th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11249.

Embrace the Drama: A Couple’s Viewing of Chicago

Being a native New Yorker, I never pass up a moment for a Broadway show (psst, check out my review of SIX – where I chat it up with the fabulous queens Leandra Ellis-Gaston and Zoe Jensen). My partner, on the other hand, is from the cold land up north in Alaska. He’s never experienced the buzzy and captivating energy of a live production. So I brought him to the glitzy stage of Chicago for its 29th anniversary on Broadway. We sat in awe as we watched the story unfold as the cast sang, danced, and joked their way through this 2-hour and 30-minute production about death, fame, love, and loss.

And All That Jazz

The story is set in the 1920s, focusing on Roxy (played by Rachel Schur) and Velma Kelly (played by Bianca Marroquín) as they await their murder trials and try to convince the public they are innocent. My favorite part of the show was the musical number “All That Jazz,” where Marroquín captivates the audience with her sultry voice. My boyfriend had a heartfelt response during “Mr. Cellophane,” a number where Roxy’s husband, Amos (played by Raymond Bokhour), sings about being unseen.

Throughout the show, the actors delivered major star power with expressions of sadness, jealousy, joy, and excitement. On stage, the orchestra played its own character during the musical, with the conductor cheekily interacting with the performers. Chicago was a fabulous time to step into a world that mirrors our own with the hijinks, drama, and desire that poured from this spectacular performance.

Couples that Show Together, Stay Together

In conclusion, Broadway shows during the weekend are a must for a date night! My boyfriend and I are so grateful to have this memory and hopefully add more shows to our list to check out. Find Chicago at the iconic Ambassador Theatre at 219 W 49th St, New York, NY 10019.
