Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, it began in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of summer.
The national holiday will take place on Monday, May 28th. In Manhattan, Master Barber Arthur Reamir, whose clientele includes Matt Dillon, Bruce Willis, Tony Danza, Regis Philbin and Treat Williams, is offering free haircuts for veterans.
The shop provides hair cutting and styling services as well as shaving services and a line of men’s personal grooming products based on Reamir’s grandfather’s formulas. Reamir will offer ten regular haircuts a day by appointment and veterans will need to present their Veterans ID upon arrival at one of these locations:
