An overwhelming amount of tasty food was on display at the Javits Center during the Specialty Food Association’s Summer Fancy Food Show. The event brings together people from across the food industry including manufacturers, buyers, distributors, restaurateurs, and, of course, the press. It’s a great opportunity to try new or new-to-you products from lesser-known companies as well as recognizable brands.
Here’s a few of the delectable offerings from the Summer Fancy Food Show.
Meiji
Dating all the way back to 1916 Japan, Meiji has a long history in confections. Today, the company delivers the kid-friendly variety with playful packaging. A few of its fun snacks include Hello Panda, a lineup featuring crispy biscuits filled with cream fillings in sweet flavors like caramel, chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, and Chocorooms, cute, mushroom-shaped snacks with biscuit stems and chocolate caps. The small packs are the perfect size for packing in your travel bag when you don’t have mushroom (I’ll see myself out.), and the goodies can be found at grocery and convenience stores.
Rio Mare
Another brand with decades of experience is Rio Mare. In 1965, the Italian company stepped onto the tinned fish scene with its launch of single-serving tuna. Today, the sustainably-sourced tuna is available on Amazon. The tuna has a light-pink hue and a firm, chunky texture. It’s delicious straight out of the can and makes for an easy picnic addition. For those a little more adventurous, there are also inventive recipes available on the Rio Mare website like Tuna with Asparagus, Orange and Almonds.
Be Truffle
Newer to the food scene, Be Truffle is making its namesake delicacy more accessible. The Italian brand serves up sauces and dips in a variety of truffle-rich flavors. At the Fancy Food Show, I had the chance to try the piquant Sweet Truffle Chilli on a chicken nugget. It was fun to mix up a familiar, savory dish with a fresh, sweet sauce. Be Truffle offers a lot of options to get your creative dip on with flavors like Truffle and Black Garlic Aioli, Spicy Truffle Mayo, and Truffle Honey Mustard.
