It may be hard to believe, but it has been 100 years since the birth of one of Hollywood’s most notable sirens. Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 2026, and in her well-documented lifetime, she finished an incredible 29 films. The icon’s centennial birthday is being celebrated across the country in countless glamorous ways, including one champagne company’s fitting tribute.

To celebrate the anniversary, Film at Lincoln Center (FLC) collaborated with Piper-Heidsieck to host a viewing on 35mm film featuring one of Monroe’s most famous performances, “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.” The classic film is directed by Howard Hawks and co-stars the inimitable Jane Russell. There are some great song and dance numbers in the film, but Monroe singing “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” is truly iconic. It’s such a funny movie, and the performances are pure perfection.
At the event, there was an auction to benefit FLC, popcorn, and plenty of champagne flowing. (I’d like to think Monroe would have liked it that way.)
