Breaking Barriers in Motorsports: Q&A with Female Racer Kaylee Countryman

Kaylee Countryman is making quite a name for herself in the racing world. At just 15-years-old she already is an extraordinary race driver and is breaking molds what people think of females participating in the sport. Recently, she fronted XIVI’s Born to Ride campaign, blending her fierce racing edge with bold, sustainable fashion. I had the privilege to sit down with Kaylee and learn all about her racing journey so far and how she balances her intense schedule with self-care.

Thank you for joining us! Tell us a bit about yourself and what first drove you into the racing world?

I’m 15 years old, I like space, speed, and traveling. I think what drove me into the racing world was the Netflix series “Drive to Survive.” I came home one day and was bored from driving a 20 MPH golf kart around and saw that series on the TV. My parents and I looked into it more, and found out that all racing drivers come from karting. Luckily for us, Radford racing school was not too far from our house. We did a few karting sessions there and then off we went!

Did you ever have any doubts when you began? What particularly fuels your passion for racing?

Yes, when I started, I had doubts. I didn’t know the amount of work and time this sport would take to not only understand it, but to even be remotely good at it. What fuels me for racing is the speed and the environment around this sport.

You’re now the face of XIVI’s “Born to Ride” collection. What’s it like to represent a line that captures the thrill and energy of the track? Do you have a favorite piece that really stands out for you?

Representing a racing line is very exciting. I am happy with all of the clothing and admire the work the designer has put into it. I am also very honored to be the face of the collection. I think my favorite piece is probably the jacket. It’s comfy and it has a pretty cool style to it.

Racing is a male-dominated sport, but you’re changing that! What’s your advice to young girls who want to break barriers and chase big dreams?

I hope that young racing drivers of either gender have more confidence to race because of me, but especially the girls. Since it is so male dominated, many girls can feel timid or scared to compete in fear that they will be judged, made fun of, targeted, etc. Some advice that I even struggle with myself, is that you shouldn’t care what others think. If you’re winning, contenting, or doing anything, there are always going to be people that judge, and not everyone is going to like you. But again, it shouldn’t matter what others think, just make sure you focus on yourself.

What top health and wellness tips can you share with us that you use daily to stay on top of your game?

I always try to make it to the gym, take protein shakes, and eat well because this sport is physical. Training is very important to be able to handle the car, and it can also help with confidence.

I see you are also a brand ambassador to ÖRLÖ. Do you have any favorite supplements, and could you tell us why?

As part of my health routine, I always make sure to take my ÖRLÖ supplements. I really like their Omega-3’s. They’re vegan and have healthy nutrients that definitely help me throughout the day.

Anything else we should know?

INDYCAR is my top focus, and I’m always open to other opportunities along the way. Whether that’s new testings or sponsorships, I’m eager to grow and perfect my craft.
