As an oily skin type—where my “dewy” comes off as more slick—I lean towards lightweight products that hold up in the humidity and heat. This summer I’ve been testing out products to see if they can handle the rainstorms, sun, and sweat that come with the season.
Acne Collection from Hypothesis
For cleansing and skin support, I’ve been testing the Acne Collection from Hypothesis. I start with the Daily Acne Cleanser, a gel cleanser that is low-foam and smells a bit herbal. I wet my face, rub the cleanser into my skin, and leave it on for about thirty seconds so the cleanser has time to do its job.
Afterwards, I follow up with the Acne Precision Serum and Balancing + Brightening Gel Cream. This weightless duo contains CUT-02™ Enzyme, a patented enzyme that combats acne bacteria, and Salicylic Acid at 0.5% to exfoliate the skin and control dirt and oil.
The results: my skin feels hydrated and balanced. For stubborn breakouts, I apply a Microdart Blemish Patch to dissolve any gunk in the pore in the AM and PM until the zit fades away.
Texture Refiner T30 from Typology
After my previous skincare is applied, I dab on Texture Refiner T30 from Typology. The refiner is a peachy color balm that can be used as a primer or final layer for skincare. Niacinamide 5% is the star of the show that aids in exfoliating dead skin and smoothing over pores without the use of silicones. The refiner holds up in the heat and humidity, and the skin looks sooo good. Check out fellow writer Danielle’s review on her POV of the product here.
BNNYC Tip: Place the tube into the fridge before applying for a cooling effect.
Skin, Eyes, and Lips from ILIA Beauty
I won’t forgo makeup just because of sweat. I strive for simplicity with clean formulas from ILIA Beauty.
After my skin prep, my sensitive skin enjoys the Soft Focus Finishing Powder with the Precision Powder Brush. The powder claims to hold up for 12 hours while blurring pores and smoothing texture. Throughout the humidity, my skin feels lightweight and looks like me-but-better.
Next, instead of fussing with eyeshadow, I go for a fluttery mascara look with Limitless Lash Mascara. This award-winning mascara has a dual-sided brush that coats the lashes and then combs them out for a lengthened look. Each swipe contains biotin, shea butter, and beeswax to condition and nourish lashes without irritation. The mascara coats each lash without leaving behind any flakes or streaks, even through a summer storm.

I can’t forget my eyebrows. I lay them down with In Frame Brow Gel. A clean formula and Hair Renewal Complex that is kind to hairs without leaving them crunchy.
Lastly, there are lips that last all day. Lip Sketch Hydrating Crayon is a creamy formula that stays through sips, snacking, and talking. The crayon is a multi-use lippie that serves as a liner, color, and in a pinch, a blush. For everyday wear, I apply Tableau, a rich cocoa brown, that transfers from day to night. For weekends when I go out for date night, I grab Blue Note, a cherry red for a pop of color that is weightless yet so sultry.
Summer beauty is easy with ILIA, Hypothesis and Typology this August.
