Doing my hair can sometimes mean too many steps for me. Wash, condition, oil, protect, dry, style, tone, recolor… I have to manage it all! My schedule and my wallet are not prepared. That means avoiding wash days, emptying out my supply of dry shampoo to try and preserve a good hairstyle. That, or the disappointing frizz which I get stuck with whenever I leave my locks to their own devices.
In 2025, I plan to finish complaining and start problem-solving my beauty woes. That’s why I have gone full out with the Shark FlexStyle. If I want a consistent blowout look I can afford, I’m going to have to do it myself! I got the $249/£219 model including the Auto-Wrap Curlers, Paddle Brush, Oval Brush, Concentrator, Diffuser & Storage Case, with the aim of getting myself the ‘one-stop shop’ of hair implements.

Why It Works for Me
Every day I don’t burn myself with some styling implement or burn money at the hair salon, I’m reminded of the FlexStyle’s massive value add to my routine. Everyone has been complimenting the blowout style I’ve managed with the diffuser and the Oval Brush — certainly the set’s MVP for me. The time I tried a heated round brush before the FlexStyle, I was quite put off by the way it stubbornly nested itself in my hair. With this one, I feel much more in-control. I’m easily able to adjust both heat and power while the brush just glides through.

That confidence is really the number one thing that makes the FlexStyle a good fit for me. I can achieve results that feel professional, without the steep learning curve of products I’d used before. After getting used to the FlexStyle curling implements it seems increasingly bizarre that I’d been frying my hair with a hot iron to curl it all this time. I’ve often been the friend entrusted with doing everyone’s hair before an event, but since giving a pretty simple tutorial I’ve been impressed with how readily my friends have mastered using the FlexStyle on themselves.
How I Style My Hair
Generally before I use the FlexStyle I give my hair a wash, then put on a little hair oil and mousse (totally optional) and a heat protectant (a must for regular heat styling; I use Tresemme Heat Tamer). Then, I’d recommend drying, using the diffuser if you want extra volume, until your hair is mostly dry.

After that, you’re off to the races. At the Shark-recommended heat and intensity the curlers basically make the ringlets for themselves, or you can use the concentrator to achieve a straight style. The oval brush, my favourite, you can just pull through your hair, leaving gentle waves ready for the coming day. I also add a little hairspray for a night out, and then I’m out the door.
I really have to recommend this for anyone looking for ease in return for investment. I’ve put it to the test for months, and it hasn’t let me down.
