Taking March Madness Hair Inspo from Paige Bueckers and Madison Reed

You wouldn’t have to follow women’s college basketball closely to know about Paige Bueckers. The University of Connecticut guard is making headlines for being the first player in the Big East to earn three Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors. But, it’s hardly the first time Bueckers has been honored, and it likely won’t be the last. Needless to say, she is so much fun to watch on the court!

Teaming Up

Bueckers, also known as Paige Buckets, is not only a force on the hardwood, but she also happens to have great hair. Now, the basketball star is here with the assist to build on a partnership in place between UConn Athletics and hair color brand Madison Reed

Fans eager to take a shot on a hair color inspired by Buecker’s locks can try out UConnic Blonde. The new product is a shade of Madison Reed’s ColorWonder Demi-Permanent Hair Color lineup. UConnic Blonde is described as “cool beige-blonde with ash tones,” and as a demi-permanent hair color, the UConnic shade is a temporary solution that can refresh tones without lifting or lightening hair color permanently. The color is targeted to last up to 25 washes.

Tryouts

In addition to the anticipated color cream and activator that come with most hair dye kits, Madison Reed ColorWonder has some thoughtful extras. Not only are shampoo and conditioner included in the kit, but a protective processing cap and a cleansing wipe for those pesky stains that end up on your forehead and ears are also inside.

Not one to sit on the sidelines (unless we’re talking about playing actual basketball), I couldn’t resist trying out UConnic Blonde. Beginning with light blonde hair, I left the color on my hair for 20 minutes. After a wash and dry, I found the color difference to be subtle. The brassiness was reduced, and the tones were cooler as advertised. UConnic Blonde would be a slam dunk for someone looking to refresh their look without undergoing a drastic change.

Get in the Game

For fans looking to get in on the action, the UConnic Blonde Shade is now available in-store and online at Ulta Beauty, with an appointment in one of Madison Reed’s Hair Color Bar locations, and starting March 20th, it will also be available on Madison-Reed.com.

And, if you enjoy watching Bueckers compete in this NCAA Tournament, you’re in luck. She will likely be the first pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, giving everyone even more fantastic ball to look forward to in the pro sports world soon.

Amy Hamblen

After spending over a decade in New York, Amy Hamblen is still impressively bad at giving directions around the city. Fortunately, she makes up for it with an abundance of solid happy hour recommendations. Amy is originally from Indiana, and whether or not her years spent covering the food and entertainment scene in NYC has earned her a seat at the table may be debatable, but it's of little consequence — she much prefers a stool at the bar.
