After years of bleaching my hair to keep up with my favorite beige blonde, I finally decided to finally give my curls a much-needed break. It was not an easy decision, but I knew my hair would appreciate it. Now, as I’m getting used to my new, darker look, I’ve been on the hunt for products to help with the long-term color damage.
While browsing online, I discovered a haircare brand called Epres. The brand’s founder, Eric Pressly, is known for his work with developing cult-favorite Olaplex. He discovered his talent for innovation while pursuing his Ph.D. in materials science, working on everything from ground-breaking pharmaceuticals to inventing the bond-building category in haircare.
Epres was Pressly’s passion project during the COVID-19 pandemic and the unique patented molecular technology officially launched to the public in October 2022.
The Product
The brand is known for its Epres Bond Repair Treatment ($48) which is a bonding treatment that promises to repair heat or color damaged hair. The formula is highly concentrated and consists of just four 100% vegan, biodegradable ingredients. Naturally, I had to give it a try.
The Process
One of the first things I noticed about using Epres is how straightforward the process is. I poured the concentrate vial into the spray bottle, filled it with water, and shook it to ensure it mixed well. I then parted my hair into four sections for easier application and generously sprayed the product on my dry, unwashed hair until it was fully saturated.
The brand recommends leaving it on for a minimum of ten minutes. You can actually sleep with it overnight but since the formula is oil-based, you’d want to eventually wash it out. I took some time to do my skincare, and after 30 minutes, I washed and conditioned as usual.
The Results
Now that my hair was ready to be styled, I instantly noticed how soft my hair was; it was easy to comb through, almost as if I had applied a deep conditioner. I applied a light gel to enhance my curls and let it air dry. As you can see in the before picture (jump scare below!), it was very dry and the curls weren’t as defined, so I was excited to see how shiny and full of life it looked.
Final Thoughts
I think that using this treatment over time will give me even better results. The convenient spray bottle makes it easy to use, and the process fits perfectly into my busy schedule. You can get multiple treatments out of each vial, making it even more rewarding, so Epres was an easy win in my book.
