With more than 20 years of experience, Lacy Gadegaard-West, the founder of Laced Hair Care is an elite stylist, a master of seven extension methods, a salon owner, an educator, and a dedicated mother to four children. In my exclusive interview with Gadegaard-West she delves into her revolutionary brand, her hair expertise, and more.
Thank you for joining us. Please tell our readers more about yourself and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Lacy Gadegaard-West, the founder of Laced Hair Extensions, Laced Hair Care, Laced Academy, the Laced Hair Foundation, and the Laced Hair Salon, and a mom of four. I’ve been a hair stylist for over 20 years. I went to hair school directly after high school following my passion for always being the one to do my friend’s hair. I began doing hair extensions in 2008, when the options were either cheap and damaging, or wildly expensive and unattainable. I knew there had to be something better.
I traveled to connect with an ethical manufacturer for 100% human remy hair extensions that I still work with today and built Laced with intention from the very beginning. Sixteen years later, Laced is trusted by thousands of stylists and women who wear Laced Hair extensions. Two years ago, we created Laced Hair Care after many years of customer service inquiries on hair care that is not only safe for hair extensions but makes them last longer and look their best.
What was the motivation to start your own hair line?
I was tired of apologizing for other people’s hair. Clients would spend a fortune and two months later the ends were fried, the tape was sliding, or the color had turned brassy. I knew it didn’t have to be that way, so I was committed to delivering the highest-quality, softest, and healthiest human hair extensions. Our process takes months and begins with ethically sourcing hair, ensuring fair compensation, before moving through a meticulous production process. Each detail is intentional: 100% virgin Remy hair, processed without acids, double-drawn with intact cuticles, and finished using proprietary color techniques refined for over 15+ years.
What makes LHC stand out from other brands and what are your top products?
Healthy hair became part of my daily routine when I started my career as a hairstylist. Please tell us about your nonprofit, The Laced Hair Foundation. It sounds amazing.
Every single pack of hair, hair care product and academy class we sell donates a portion to the Laced Hair Foundation. We provide free wigs, wig toppers, hair extensions, and hair care kits to women and children experiencing hair loss from cancer, alopecia, and other illnesses. The Laced Hair foundation has helped hundreds of women regain confidence and hope.
Working in the hair industry for so many years could you please share with us a couple of your top hair tips?
* Sleep on silk (pillowcase or bonnet) – non-negotiable.
* Just like you need to put a higher-grade gas in a Mercedes, you have to invest in premium hair products for your hair extensions, from your shampoo and conditioner to hydrating oils.
* Scalp care is the new skincare. Just like your face, your scalp needs regular exfoliation, hydration, and targeted hair-growth vitamins to create the healthiest environment for strong, beautiful hair.
* Don’t stretch wash days too far. While extensions hold style beautifully, going too long between washes, especially relying on dry shampoo can compromise scalp health and impact long-term hair growth.
