Experience what a functional fragrance can do with Auratherapy. Founded by Laura McCann, her extraordinary products are designed to influence how you feel, not just how you smell. while also supporting emotional balance, energetic alignment, and daily transformation through scent. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with McCann to learn about her background, fragrance and more.
Thank you for joining us. You have quite an interesting background. Please tell us about yourself.
I’m the founder and CEO of Auratherapy, a company dedicated to helping people understand and intentionally influence their emotional well-being through scent, breath, and energy awareness. Before entering the wellness industry, I spent more than 30 years building brands across fashion, technology, and consumer products. Like many entrepreneurs, I lived in a constant state of stress and burnout, believing that success required pushing harder.
Everything changed after my own health challenges led me to discover the profound connection between scent, the nervous system, and emotional regulation. I became fascinated with how essential oils could shift mood within seconds. Simply because they smelled beautiful, but because they communicate directly with the limbic system, the part of the brain responsible for emotion and memory. That experience inspired me to create Auratherapy. Today we manufacture our products in Asheville, North Carolina, and have evolved beyond fragrance into what we call emotional wellness infrastructure, combining aromatherapy, aura and chakra assessments, education, and immersive wellness experiences to help people become more intentional about how they feel, not just how they smell.
What sparked your passion to create your own chakra perfume?
I realized that traditional perfume had become almost entirely about fashion, luxury, and attraction. Very few people asked a more important question: “How do I want to feel today?” Every morning we choose clothes that match our mood or the image we want to project, yet fragrance has largely remained a cosmetic accessory. I wanted to create something that became part of a daily wellness ritual instead. Each chakra represents a different emotional state, groundedness, creativity, confidence, compassion, communication, intuition, and connection. By carefully blending essential oils traditionally associated with supporting those emotional qualities, we created perfumes with intention rather than trend. Our goal isn’t to mask who you are. It’s to help you reconnect with the version of yourself you want to bring into the world each day.
What sets your brand apart from others and do you have future plans to create more products?
We believe we’re creating an entirely new category that sits somewhere between fragrance, wellness, and emotional technology. Every Auratherapy product begins with one question: “What emotional outcome are we trying to support?” From there we formulate with pure essential oils, avoiding alcohol, synthetic fragrance, phthalates, and unnecessary fillers. The result is a breathable perfume that nourishes both body and mind while delivering a beautiful scent experience.
Beyond the products themselves, we’ve developed a complete ecosystem that includes aura and chakra readings, personalized wellness rituals, certification programs for practitioners, and ATOS, our proprietary platform, launching in 2027, crafted to personalize recommendations based on an individual’s energetic profile. Looking ahead, you’ll continue to see us expand beyond fragrance into experiences, education, hospitality, corporate wellness, and technology. Our vision has never been to create another perfume company, it is to help make emotional wellness as measurable, personalized, and accessible as physical wellness has become.
For those of us who don’t know much about chakras, could you please tell us the difference between a chakra perfume and a standard perfume?
A traditional perfume is generally designed around fragrance notes and longevity. Its purpose is primarily aesthetic. A chakra perfume begins with intention. Rather than asking, “What smells fashionable?” we ask, “What emotional state do you want to cultivate?” The essential oils are selected for both their aromatic beauty and their traditional role in supporting emotional balance through aromatherapy.
For example, someone preparing for an important presentation may choose a blend designed to encourage confidence and clear communication. Someone feeling overwhelmed might reach for a grounding or calming blend instead. Whether someone embraces the chakra philosophy or simply enjoys the psychological benefits of aromatherapy, the practice becomes a daily moment of mindfulness. It shifts perfume from being something you wear to something you experience.
What are your top selling chakra perfumes and do you have a favorite?
The best-sellers are Chakra 1, 4, and 7! Personally, the little yogi in me has been using these a lot at the studio, and I’ve been gravitating toward Chakras 1, 2, and 4. That said, I truly love them all. Chakras 6 and 7 feel a bit more earthy, but they still smell delicious.
Anything else we should know?
We’re living through a time when stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue have become part of everyday life. I believe people are looking for simple rituals that help them reconnect with themselves. Fragrance has always had the power to evoke memories and emotions. We’re simply bringing greater intention to that experience. At Auratherapy, our mission is to help people discover that wellness doesn’t always require another hour in the gym or another supplement. Sometimes transformation begins with something as simple as taking a deep breath, setting an intention, and choosing how you want to show up in the world. That’s why our tagline is “Beyond Perfume.” We aren’t just creating scents, we’re helping people find their frequency. Vibrate higher!
