For a Glow That Lasts: Q & A Shahnaz Cola-Wrensch, Founder of Lumi Glo

Lumi Glo is an award-winning, cruelty-free South African skincare brand. Founded by Shahnaz Cola-Wrensch, a makeup artist, podcast host and creator of The Glow Mentor, she has dedicated her career to helping people feel confident in their own skin. Through Lumi Glo, she champions the “less makeup, more skincare” movement with simple, effective products. I recently had the privilege of speaking with Wrensch to hear all about her innovative brand, her background, and more.

Thank you for joining us. You have quite an impressive background. Please tell us about yourself.

For me, it started long before Lumi Glo. As a professional makeup artist for over 15 years, I worked with hundreds of women and quickly realized that beautiful makeup always starts with healthy skin. I loved seeing how transforming someone’s skin didn’t just change how they looked, it completely changed how they felt about themselves. I also struggled with sensitive skin myself and found it incredibly difficult to find products that were effective, packed with active ingredients, yet still gentle enough for my skin. I decided to create the products I wished existed. Lumi Glo was born from a passion for skin confidence, simple routines, and helping women feel beautiful without feeling like they need to hide behind makeup. My mission has always been to help women glow from the inside out through skincare that is effective, uncomplicated and empowering.

You founded The Glo Mentor. What is it?

The Glo Mentor is really an extension of everything Lumi Glo stands for. Over the years I realized that glowing skin is only part of the picture. Confidence, self-worth, mindset and how we speak to ourselves all play such a huge role in how we show up in the world. I wanted to create a space that helps women nurture not just their skin, but themselves. Through workshops, my podcast Glo From The Inside OUT, speaking engagements and online content, The Glo Mentor focuses on self-worth being the new self-care. Reinventing yourself at any age. Launching a business. It’s about helping women reconnect with themselves, build confidence, overcome burnout and limiting beliefs, and realize that the most beautiful glow comes from within. When you feel good mentally and emotionally, it naturally shows on the outside.

Working in the skincare industry for so many years do you have any top beauty tips you could share?

I love to mix a liquid illuminator into my moisturizer to add that lit from within glow. Hydration is everything. Well-hydrated skin always looks healthier, brighter and more youthful. I find that the more hydrated the skin is the less foundation is needed, and it lasts longer throughout the day. A face mist is essential for reviving skin. It’s also my multitasker to use after a workout, on the plane, to sheer out makeup, and to add that glow all day long. Healthy skin isn’t created by products alone; it’s created by how you care for yourself as a whole. Don’t chase every trend. Learn what your skin actually needs instead of following what’s viral. Skin prep is everything; makeup comes second.

Anything else we should know?

After more than 17 years as a makeup artist, I’ve learnt that the future of beauty isn’t more makeup, it’s better skin. That’s why I’m so passionate about the no-makeup makeup movement. When your skin is healthy, hydrated and glowing, makeup simply becomes the finishing touch, not the mask.
