VENUS STAR POINT: Lover or Warrior?

For last year’s Valentine’s Day BEAUTYSCOPE, I published the piece Self Care by Venus Sign, highlighting the influence our natal Venus has upon our values, sense of worthiness, justice, beauty and pleasure. Known as the ‘Lesser Benefic,’ long has Venus – the brightest body in the sky after the luminaries – been revered by ancients around the world as a celestial guide. An active planet with a churning interior and continually recycling atmosphere, along with Earth it’s the only other living planet within our inner solar system. Venus is an orbiting body that shines by reflecting back 80% of the light of the Sun, a byproduct of its colossal covering of clouds. Called everything from a ‘veil’ in defense of telescopic probing to the breasts of the Goddess, for many years this halo of clouds obscured Venus from outside spectators. Before Venus became the target for the first spacecraft sent from Earth, in the Western world at least, the curiosity of nonexistent features like phosphorescent oceans and glowing cityscapes – informed by imagination as much as cultural biases, expectations, hopes and prejudices – heaped upon this feminine planet is telling to say the least. As the Feminine principle of partnership— today’s popular Venus generally embodies the archetype of Lover and Seductress, with its inherited gender associations, although her ancient roots are much more complex and powerful.

Before modern sky watchers adopted the Roman title Venus for this heavenly body (Aphrodite for the Greeks) ancient Babylonians referred to it as the ‘Star of Ishtar.’ Called Inanna by the Mesopotamians, one of the earliest recorded Goddesses, her true multifaceted form is a promiscuous and warlike Goddess of love, lust, music and war. Inanna’s fearsome war cries freeze her enemy’s blood, but we often hear only of her underworld descent and rape. Inanna is stripped down. Entering hell completely naked, she is hung from a hook and unable to escape – qualifying Venus’s morning from evening phase. Venus as Morning Star is Warrior, also called Venus Pandemos. Venus as Evening Star, Goddess of Love also called Venus Urania. While ancient Mayans looked to planet Venus when deciding to go to war, as modern astrologers we use Venus to investigate the interpersonal dynamics of love and relationship.

In this article, we’ll be exploring The Venus Star Point®, a term coined by astrologer Arielle Guttman. When Venus aligns with Earth, called a ‘Cazimi’ (Latin for ‘Heart of the Sun’) it sets in motion a cycle known as the Venus Star Point (VSP). Creating a 5-pointed star pattern over an 8-year cycle, the Venus Star Point influences our collective understanding of love, beauty, self-worth and values – each Star Point emphasizing the part of the zodiac where it resides and the best qualities of that sign.  “Venus, Earth and Sun are all in alignment, pulsing the light of the Sun through the heart of Venus to Earth, weaving a heart-centered pattern inside each of us in the womb,” writes Guttman in Venus Star Rising (an exploration of the geometry, astronomy, mythology and astrology of Venus) which I draw from heavily in the Astro-insights to follow.

Conjunctions of Venus to the Sun plotted along a zodiac wheel reveal a 5-pointed star. Over several cycles, a flower. Her intersections with the Earth form a sacred heart, or two spirals facing inward. Connecting our astrology charts to the fractal-like nature of organic growth and evolution – Venus Star Points (also known as the ‘Five Petals of Venus’ and ‘Heart of God’ in religious contexts) correspond to the number 1.618 or PHI. Called the ‘Fibonacci Sequence’ or ‘Golden Mean,’ the PHI ratio is a fixture of Venus’s movement across the heavens. Distinguished as the most pleasing spatial and sonic relationship, it threads through everything from the musical scale to some of the world’s greatest works of architecture (Egypt’s Great Pyramid, Greece’s Parthenon and the Guggenheim Museum) as well as all those perfect star and spiral formations found in flowers and plants. For billions of years, Venus has danced in lock-step formation with Earth, five star cycles to each eight of our years. In music, this is called polyrhythm, the 5/8 combo most commonly associated with tribal music of Africa and subsequent forms of healing trance dance the world over – effectively the original ‘Music of the Spheres.’

Distinct from one’s natal Venus, one’s Venus Star Point is the degree of the last Venus-Sun cazimi occurring prior to one’s date of birth. With the VSP taking over a century to cycle through each zodiac sign, star points are less personal in nature, reflecting larger generational cycles in addition to providing key information related to one’s soul purpose. While our Venus sign tells us about how we do relationship, our Venus Star Point tells us about our personal soul contract and the heart-centered path one must take when sharing it with the world.

Combining the love of Venus with the light of the Sun, a natal VSP codifies an individual’s place within the collective creative zeitgeist. As a focal point of Venusian energy one can utilize throughout their life, one’s VSP doesn’t replace a natal Venus, it merely adds another layer of information about our approach to love and fulfillment. While the natal Venus operates as a metaphor for love one seeks externally – the synchronicities of social life – the Venus Star Point encourages one to look inward and realign with innermost values. Essentially, the evolution of the Venus Star reflects the developmental process of Venus as the collective experiences soul-evolution toward unconditional love (represented by Neptune, the ‘higher octave’ of Venus). In light of esoteric doctrine designating Venus as Earth’s twin, separated at birth 4.5 billion years ago, astrology suggests that in the coming centuries, the importance of this feminine planet to us earthlings will surge exponentially.

Quetzalcoatl, an Aztec & Mayan name for Venus is a conflation of ‘brightly colored bird’ & ‘snake’

Guttman’s book goalposts the recent VSP’s shift into Libra in October of 2022 as setting the stage for a transition toward a partnership-model which won’t be fully felt until we move into the Pisces (2041) and Taurus (2076) VSP eras. As one of the astrological rulers of Venus, the Libra VSP activates the planet of love’s other ruling signs Pisces and Taurus, foregrounding a period for humanity in which Venusian themes of social justice, relationship harmony and the heart begin to play a more predominant role in value systems. That is, after we face what Guttman earmarks as an “8-year period of tumult and uncertainty” (2022-2030) leading up to the final culminating Scorpio Star Point in October of 2026. In the sign of feminine power also called ‘Female Mars,’ this 100-year passage of the Venus Star through battle-ready Scorpio ends with a humbling death/rebirth scenario. In the regular cycle of the zodiac, we find that Libra becomes Scorpio, and that the scales of justice become the scorpion’s tail. As the Star Point moves retrograde from our point of view on Earth, the current Scorpio-Libra shift involves reconciliation and fulfillment, partnership and reflection – what many have hailed as a shift from Me to We. More on that later!

Aztec & Mayan Quetzalcoatl

Now that we know the kiss of Venus with the Sun shows up for us cosmically in the form of a guiding Star Point, the frequency by which our love reverberates across the heavens, we can make a deeper investigation of the overall style in which we project our creative abilities outward. Venus, Goddess of Love, reminds us how the more we love what we do, the greater our gift to all of humanity. With the Star Point formation often compared to a rose or flower (evidenced exquisitely in the morning glory and nautilus shell), we can think of this energy as our personal roadmap of the heart. Guttman’s book is a reflection of over seven years she spent recording and mapping the cycles of Venus with respect to the natal charts of astrology clients, friends and lovers, political figures, celebrities and the birth charts of nations. In her unprecedented contributions to the field, she takes great pains to illustrate the many historical events synchronized precisely with Venus’s cosmic pirouette. Corresponding to the feminine/lunar-oriented right brain’s 5th harmonic, Guttman points out how the length of time between two Venus Star Points is 9.5 months, roughly the same as pregnancy.

Indeed, the changing phases of Venus correspond to the divine feminine’s cyclical process of death/rebirth. Swinging back and forth between the morning and evening skies of Earth while moving backward through the zodiac, each period of retrograde forms a point of the star. Whenever Venus goes retrograde (offering a period of Venusian introspection for us humans here on Earth) there is a phase change. Venus is becoming Evening Star (feminine/Lover) or Morning Star (masculine/Warrior), coinciding with a VSP sign change. For those born during Venus’s changeover period, there is likely a certain amount of gender uncertainty – or perhaps the inclination to change genders or borrow power from the opposite sex in some way.

Venus of Urbino

And while within the West, at least, we have seemingly buried Venus’s connection to War and Justice, it’s interesting that the U.S. Department of Defense is housed in a building of her starlike shape called the Pentagon. In fact, being the most Earth-like of planets, voyages to Venus have been a natural laboratory for studying some of today’s crucial environmental concerns. In his book, Venus Revealed: A New Look Below the Clouds of our Mysterious Twin Planet, David Harry Grinspoon reveals how, sadly, the exploration of Venus has advanced in tandem with war.  Over time Venus became, through the lens of science, a ‘place’ rather than a Goddess – one full of real volcanoes and valleys, clouds, heat and diffuse red light. Today’s science is using it as a model Earth to study acid rain, global warming and ozone depletion.

If you’ve ever worked with a Venus Retrograde period you’ve probably experienced a profound and subtle kind of transformation of heart. After all, it’s not just that the Venusian star-pattern is reflected in the beauty of nature, the best music and art, but that the human body itself is a replica, “with our five senses and five appendages emanating from our heart center,” writes Guttman. For most of human history, the sky was calendar, clock and compass. Some even call Venus the ‘Metronome of the World.’ With Venus moving retrograde far less than other planets, what usually amounts to one 40-day period every 18 months, those born during her retrograde period are considered to have a Venus in the underworld vibe, challenging the norms of day when it comes to love, sexuality and creative expression. Collectively speaking, when Venus goes retrograde, it’s an opportunity to reassess all that she rules – from relationships to self-worth, earned income and beauty routine.

Kicking off a new collective love cycle, her Venusian fivefold pattern begins at the inferior conjunction – Venus is closest to the Earth and about to become a Morning Star what we can think of as a ‘New Moon’ phase of Venus. With each new Venus Star Point setting in motion collective themes around love and romance, the zodiac sign coinciding with the head of the star is one’s natal Venus Star Point, while the pentagram’s hands are in a sign representing an energy that helps and its feet in a sign from which we gain strength. Which brings us back to today’s inquiry, is your natal Venus a Lover or Warrior? Before we dive in, let’s look at some of her mythic qualities.

In the book Post-Colonial Astrology Alice Sparkly Kat explains how myths about Venus reveal Western Imperialism’s perilous divide between nature and civilization. Essentially, “Europe kills the primitive Venus of the colonized world to revive itself,” writes Sparkly Kat. Called Isis, Ishtar, Inanna, Astarte, Ashtaroth, and Aphrodite, if not simply the Great Goddess – the original Venus was closely tied to sensuality and fertility and portrayed bare-breasted prior to the rise of orthodox religion. The Mayans, who tracked Venus in their calendar, had volumes to say about her, whom they considered the sister of the Sun. Contrary to Western astrology, where she seems to be a 2-dimensional catch-all for stereotypical femininity, Mayan Venus had an infinite number of personalities corresponding to her five seasonal risings over an eight-year period, each with a distinct face or deity.

The most commonly told myth of Venus, immortalized in Sandro Botticelli’s painting The Birth of Venus – is the story of her Evening Star, Lover or ‘Celestial’ likeness. Corresponding to the Neptunian ‘Higher Octave’ of unconditional love, there seems to be a parallel here between the neutering of Taurus-ruled Earth or ‘common’ Venus and a general disavowal of women, nature and the body. Nowhere to be found is the Great Goddess, in fact, Celestial Venus arose from the sea as a result of the castration of Uranus and Saturn. Not only did Uranus’s genitals fall into the ocean and mix with the sea foam to create a ‘shadow’ aspect of Venus called the Three Furies – she would float, stunning and motherless, to shore on a sea shell. While this Father-centered castration story is clearly a symptom of the rising tide of sex-negative religion, at the same time, we find within it a metaphor for the human love we have for the divine. If Neptune is the Higher Octave of Venusian love, then I’d add that dwarf planet Haumea (Hawaiian Goddess of Creation & Childbirth) is the higher octave of Neptune, anchoring psychic unity and ecofeminism into our day-to-day existence. In our March BEAUTYSCOPE, we’ll focus on learning Haumea’s transpersonal wisdom.

Birth of Venus

During the Renaissance period, when Venus came to be known solely as a Love Goddess, the church’s emerging codes of hyper-sexualized racist morality transmogrified as artistic depictions of an ever-fairer Venus – an object tailored to the male-gaze. Sara ‘Saartjie’ Baartman, the African Khoikhoi woman called ‘Venus Hottentot’ is perhaps the best example of how whiteness manufactured for imperialist purposes poorly externalizes its relationship to the Venusian realms of Earth, nature, sexuality and the body. Baartman was a Black woman sold into slavery and sexually objectified as Europe’s long-lost primordial sexuality. Displayed in Europe against her will; after her death, a mold created of her genitals was exhibited at Musée de l’Homme in Paris until 1974. Demands from Baartman’s living ancestors were made to the French government asking it to send back Baartman’s remains to be buried on native land, a plea which was made successful with support from the post-Apartheid South African government in 2002. Not only was the so-called ‘Venus Hottentot’ made into an icon of scrutiny by and for the white gaze, but her existence was also used to justify racial subjugation by way of drawing a cultural line separating civilized from savage, which furthermore solidified gendered identity tied to race and class. Whiteness, a construction of white male patriarchy, came to represent symbolically everything that ‘Blackness’ was not and vice versa.

Venus of Willendorf

In the spirit of Venusian underworld fashion, Europe’s era of enlightened racism came to be expressed eloquently through the gender-trappings of the day. The ‘Victorian Bustle’ – drapery at the back of a skirt designed to mimic the unique body features of the so-called Venus Hottentot – would spark a fashion craze in butt-enhancing foliage, foreshadowing contemporary celebrity culture’s fixation with buttock augmentation. While within the European context Baartman’s body was displayed as a foil to codes of burgeoning Victorian morality, in many African countries, full-figured woman were considered the ideal. It’s only after many years of exposure to Western media that beauty standards within the globalizing African continent have shifted to some degree.

Here we must come to terms with colonized, appropriated, tamed and defanged Venus – and the curious ways she has come to inform the patriarchy’s dichotomy between nature and state. Sparkly Cat writes, “Venus is thereby an assimilation of older, local goddesses whose image represented everything from fertility to sexual attraction to forests to sovereignty.” White European anxieties cloaking the sex concept Venus so embodies explode as the urban city center becomes the new ‘garden,’ with Venus forced to split herself in two: Divine Goddess (chaste and pure) or Debauched Goddess (fertile and wanton whore). What becomes  “a question resolved through subjugation to power,” informs Sparkly Cat.

Inanna, Goddess of Love & War

Interesting to note that the root of venereal (as in disease) is Venus. Coinciding with 19th century Europe’s bourgeois crisis in sexuality, here we find that Venus enters the popular imagination not only through human cargo but with venereal disease (syphilis), a major public health concern conflated with prostitution. Viewed as a moral crisis rather than strictly a medical issue, much stigma around the infection led to widespread transmission within society and its subsequent panic around a type of ‘symbolic decay’ rooted in upper-middle-class fears of the body/sex. Taking on disproportionately symbolic and racial connotations, while the symptoms of syphilis hardly spared the rich, they were able to project their fears and vulnerabilities around the rising cost of sexual activity onto the disenfranchised non-white and poor. Sparkly Cat calls this phenomenon “Venus at dusk” or Venus as “the feminine in the mask of patriarchy.” Rather than holding space for the full spectrum of her power as Creator/Destroyer, Mother/Lover, and Warrior/Wife, she is forced to swing between aggrandized poles of extremity, her infinite multiplicity pigeonholed as either the lowest of human degradation or the highest of cosmic love.

But if only the cementing of the Madonna/Whore dichotomy were the worst of it. As if dethroning the Goddess of Love & Justice weren’t enough, patriarchy had to give her a sex change. That being said, Venus has always been male in Vedic astrology, and in many parts of the ancient world, she was an oscillating, cross-dressing, mostly male archetype. Enter Lucifer, the ‘Light-Bringer’ or ‘Venus as a Boy’ (Lucifer being the original Latin name for Morning Star Venus). Not only is the descent of Jesus into hell depicted in the Bible an appropriation of Inanna’s myth, one finds that Venus’s 5-pointed star becomes the Satanic pentagram when inverted. “If Venus is sometimes the moral perfection of God, then Venus is also the bankruptcy of Satan,” writes Sparkly Cat. Recognized as a magical symbol in many parts of the world including Egypt and Babylonia – there is nothing Satanic about the pentagram, despite popular opinion. Within magical traditions, it’s generally acknowledged that the upward-pointing pentagram brings fortune and protection, while the downward-pointing pentagram attracts ill-fortune.

Venus de Milo

Proverbial Venus as a Boy, Air Venus is a bringer of light as in ‘enlightened’ reason. Greek patriarchy demoted Aphrodite to a Goddess of love and beauty in favor of Apollo. Whereas Solar/Leo energy typifies the divine rule of Kings, Apollo as Lucifer the ‘light-bringer,’ having attempted to snatch the Sun God’s power and distribute it to mankind, suggests overruling monarchy for democracy. Known as God’s favorite rebel Angel, it’s ironic that famous statues depicting Lucifer – Guillaume Reef’s The Genius of Evil and his younger brother Joseph Geek’s The Angel of Evil – were deemed too sexy for the church. Much like Inanna, Lucifer is a figure defined by his descent – a reflection of Venus’s cyclical transition from Morning to Evening Star.

Venus of myth is inevitably stripped in the same way that planet Venus loses its light when conjunct the Sun. Bright Venus, the Morning Star/Warrior, is also Lucifer, the light-bearer or rebel angel of God. Inanna, as Evening Star, descends through the seven gates of hell to be hung from a hook completely naked, only to emerge victoriously as the Morning Star. The archetypal Warrior Woman who kills her rapist and condemns her husband to the underworld, Venus, represents justice. In astrological terms, Venus Pandemos as Morning Star/Warrior is associated with Taurus/Earth. Her latter archetype, Venus Urania as Evening Star/Lover (associated with Libra/Air) emerged from the celestial seas. In Mesopotamia she was Ishtar Akkad and Ishtar Uruk.

Given her dual nature of dark and light, in order to truly work with our Venus we may need to leave our comfort zone, release habits or surrender in some profound way. As Sylvia Brinton Perera highlights in her book Descent to the Goddess: A Way of Initiation for Women  – only when we are fully consumed by our desire, are we truly walking in her temple. As a Warrior Goddess, Perera writes that the dance of Inanna is one of victory, she is “the quiver ready at hand,” she is the “heart of the battle” and “the arm of the warriors.” Craving, taking, desiring, destroying, “Her receptivity is active,” writes Perera. Mayan Astronomer-priests, who based their calendar on the appearance interval of Venus, repaid their debt to her in the form of the blood of human sacrifice. In parts of Polynesia and North America, the practice of offering human sacrifices to Venus continued into as late as the 19th century.

Venus, and the clouds we call her breasts. Venus, with her endless repetitions of the ‘divine proportion’ mirrored in human biological cell regeneration. When we surround ourselves with the beauty of the natural world, we are one with Venus, Queen of Heaven, Goddess at the borderland of creativity and change. “Plow my vulva, man of my heart,” cries the Venus of poets, a Goddess of courtesans, the ritual prostitute of gods and Kings. Distinguished from the Moon (Mother), the other feminine archetype, Queen Inanna’s Venus is a wanderer in the sense that she is never the settled domestic wife, but the joie de vivre of maidenhood and muses – with its link to animal magnetism and murder lust, fecundity and war. In fact, to those she loves most, Venus is often a source of tremendous grief. Resurrecting yet another layer of decolonized Venus, Perera informs that her condition as female ‘exile’ veils the patriarchy’s overburdening of women with a type of projected potency equated with original sin. Like many of the Roman Goddesses, Venus was swallowed by her Father; her self-willed, passionate erotic feminine energy was desacralized, being either demeaned as whorish or boxed into a more safe realm sentimentalized as maternal. “Inanna’s suffering, disrobing, humiliation, flagellation, and death, the situations of her descent, her ‘crucifixion’ on the underworld peg, and her resurrection, all prefigure Christ’s passion and represent perhaps the first known archetypal image of the dying divinity whose sacrifice redeems the wasteland Earth,” concludes Perera.

Quetzalcoatl

Depicted in myth as Cupid, love’s penetrating arrow, Venusian eros is a force of nature that leaves no human untouched. Interesting that the paternity of Cupid (coming from the Latin word ‘cupere’ meaning lust) is in question. When Jupiter forced the patriarchal condition of marriage (and women as property) unto the Goddess of Love the result was her rebellion and the making of the love child Harmonia with Mars. From which man Cupid came, it’s unclear. In a myth that coupled Mars with Venus (Mercury was originally her divine consort), Venus merges with Mars was in response to having suffered an arranged marriage with Vulcan, the ugly, cuckolded god of volcanoes. Linking love to turbulent, explosive emotions as well as its feminine shadow attributes of vanity and jealousy – it’s interesting that the pairing of Venus with Vulcan seems to foreshadow modern science’s findings that Venus is a piping hot, volcanic planet if there ever was one! Not to mention her multitude of mountain peaks coated with reflective fool’s gold!

Astrology is one of the few fields that has kept the tradition of folklore and its gems of universal wisdom alive, with Venus often the centerfold. And while her cycles have been used to initiate war or predict the weather’s wet and dry spells, as modern astrologers, we correlate Venus to the human love language, everything from our flavor of courtship and style of relating to our self-worth and net-worth.  During the first half of the cycle, Venus as Morning Star, the social-emotional climate is more emotionally impulsive, striving and spontaneous. Natives born under this sky are more in touch with their anger and, like the Venus Star Point in Aries, often become activists for a cause they believe in. While those born under Venus as Morning Star lead with their emotions and express their feelings openly, they are still more than capable of being a lover too.

Capuan Venus

As Venus descends into her Evening Star phase, the heavenly realm furthest removed from Earth – there is a distillation of the meaning of one’s life experiences, resulting perhaps in a reformulation of one’s identity or ideals. Emotions and feelings flow forward during the Venus Morning Star period, while shrinking back into a more intense, introverted state during the Venus Evening Star period. Morning Star natives tend to bounce back from heartache quicker than their Evening Star counterparts, who tend to brood longer, perhaps feeling incomplete without a romantic partner. While Morning Stars do desire partnership, their quality of groundedness makes them feel complete unto themselves. Seeing their partners realistically rather than idealistically, they are driven to mate for companionship, sexual union, and the basic reproduction of the species, requiring much less validation from their sweetheart than, say, an Evening Star.

As the Evening Star/Lover archetype, Venus tends to take emotions to extremes – possibly taking many years to move on from heartache or trauma. She’s simply not of this world, Venus Urania having a direct link to cosmos which makes her poetry in motion, taking an otherworldly perspective on life and needing to be reminded she’s still living in a body. While Morning Stars (initiators walking the Earth) thrive on a bit of push pack, Evening Stars (receivers occupying the heavenly abode) feel much more comfortable engaging in harmonious, balanced partnerships – always seeking the ‘other’ in the form of a partner, teacher or godlike figure.  In the end, whether Morning or Evening Star, the goal is that one becomes fully integrated and able to access both sides of the self – Lover or Warrior – as appropriate to the circumstances. Both stars are exalted in Pisces, the Venusian higher octave of unconditional love.

In the second half of her book Guttman outlines how to create right-relationship in groups and pairs by understanding the way different VSPs work together as Twin Star Mates (same VSP), Creative Star Mates (one point away on the Star) and Karmic Star Mates (two points away on the Star); with the latter ‘feeding’ its mate in a way that creates an enduring bond over many lifetimes. She likens this concept of how one star point ‘feeds’ the next to the Chinese Medical model. In formation comprising the five-elements of Chinese medicine, five distinct organs correlate to the five seasons, five elements, five colors, five metals, five senses and five sounds.  Moving clockwise from point to point is called a ‘sheng’ or creation relationship, while moving through the heart of the star from point to point (how the VSP is formed) is called the ‘ko’ or destruction relationship. Destruction here being regarded more in the yin sense as an energy of yielding, or giving way to what is next to come…

If you were born with a Venus Star Point in Gemini, you thrive on curiosity and intrigue, aiming to understand others on a profound level. Your Star Point in Gemini is yang, but your position as Morning or Evening Star adds another qualification. Meaning our VSP sign and quality as Lover/Warrior means that some of us have a balanced yin/yang VSP, and others have a double yin-yin or yang-yang VSP.  Hence, women aren’t always from Venus and men aren’t always from Mars. In fact, the reverse is often true! All of this and more plays into our relationship with the external world, and our knowledge of it as liberating.

Quetzalcoatl

This past June, Venus in Libra transitioned into an Evening Star Lover, a yin-yang dynamic with Libra’s Venus as Air coded masculine. Maybe you noticed the energy shift toward a more communicative, egalitarian, idealist and negotiable relational atmosphere. Contrary to pop astrology’s characterization of Libra as being fake or superficial, it’s actually a sign of both precarious polarity (marriage/divorce) and emboldened multiplicity. Feeling empowered to create a world based solely on idealized visions, Libra is a pioneer on the astral/mental/social plane at odds with the dark side. A cardinal, initiatory, objective, masculine sign – Libra is a purveyor of lyrical Venusian candy in the abstract – love, grace, beauty, art, balance, and harmony! And here again we find the Luciferian shadow-concept. Just as Scorpio, the following sign of sex/death, personifies the backlash and honest retribution to Libra’s impossible love – Satan is symbolic of Libra’s latent ‘dark side.’ With the Dragon’s Tail of collective soul dissolution only very recently having left Libra moving into Virgo this past month, we are collectively evolving by unlearning codependency, indecision, fear of making errors, lack of confidence and fear of striking out independently. Many of us are unlearning toxic competition – how capitalism has socialized us to ‘win’ at the expense of self-harm. In the spirit of Sparkly Cat’s Post-Colonial Astrology, we are discovering that thriving is not about conquering, and saviorism only masks poor intentions with lofty goals. If you’re VSP is an Evening Star Lover, you may relate more acutely to the  Libran search for external validation  – from partnership, an institution, or a job – no matter the sign your VSP falls under.

Here again, we find that Venus represents our values – material (Taurus/Earth) and immaterial (Libra/Air). And it is our job to crystallize those values assuring the utmost integrity of mind and heart. During these past 90 or so years of the Venus Star Point transiting Scorpio, we were driven to dance darkly with the shadows of intimacy and dependency, money, power, secrecy and occult wisdom. Guttman characterizes humanity during this period of the warrior Mars-ruled Aries/Scorpio Star Point – as a competitive, warring and survival-oriented species. Once we close the Scorpio cycle out in 2026, the Star Point will move into two Venus-ruled signs (Pisces and Libra) putting emphasis on peace and love as a moral obligation. After all, the Venus Star Point, attests Guttman, “functions as a celestial heartbeat for Earth and the human race.”  Ideally, during the Scorpio Star Point, we shifted our partnership contracts, evolving toward shared power and discovering the depths of Plutonian treasures that lie beneath our subconscious.

While our Venus sign tells us about how we do relationship, our Venus Star Point reveals how we can tap into our personal, unlimited stream of creative-sexual energy. Interestingly in the Venus glyph we find the shape of Christian Rosary beads used for prayer (a circle with a cross extending out from the bottom), the ‘rose’ not only being associated with Venus but its name an anagram of eros, the god of erotic love and both parent and child of Venus in myth. Simple, elegant and complete unto itself – contained within the Venus Star pattern is a vault of eros-fueled astro-insights!

Venus Star Point in Taurus *Queen of Going Steady*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Actress Jeanne Craine, ‘Hollywood’s Number One Party Girl” of the 1950’s

Star Point in Taurus puts the pulse on steadiness and sustainability with a cosmic sprinkling of heightened sensuality – the need to touch and be touched with unselfconscious plentitude. With the Goddess of Love on her home turf, it’s an ideal scenario for enhancing self-love and bringing fringe ideas to the forefront. Call on creativity of all stripes to secure financial stability. Sensual and down to Earth, one has a superb talent for helping things grow—plants and dreams alike!  A pragmatic person who appreciates luxury, one’s gift is steadiness. Venus Star Point in Taurus needs their daily dose of pure affection, comfort, nature, music and sensory pleasures. With a desire to create peace and material prosperity, your biggest obstacle to love is a tendency to value someone according to their class rather than character. Defining your values is key. Accept what is needed on the material plane to be comfortable and productive while balancing that with what is essential for the spirit.  These natives tend to have an intense desire for reliability, comfort and physical attachment within relationship. One longs for that cozy, cuddly, instinctual, uncomplicated, and unembarrassed existence in partnership as a pair of lap cats. Either way, finding one’s place involves care. Comfort and security, home, heritage and emotional conditioning are of utmost importance to the Cancerian. Venus Star Point in Virgo *Power to the Humble*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Amy Winehouse

Virgo VSPs humbly serve, finding meaning in being useful, hardworking and efficient. Natural analyzers and organizers, one intuitively understands exactly what needs to be done, in what order and by whom. Wielding the gift of service, this is an individual capable of life-long devotion to one’s chosen sector and many mindful contributions over time. A tendency to be openly critical allows one to dissect the system at hand, identifying a better and more just way to proceed. With numerous talents and skills, VSP in Virgo presides over industry and reaps an incredible harvest as a reward. Primordial Harvest Goddess, Virgo symbolizes the cornucopia. Excelling in self-analysis, devoted service, health, nutrition and practical problem-solving – one is willing and able to be a vehicle of the divine. Always an asset to the community, sharpened faculties of discernment would make one a great editor, illustrator, or customer. While people love you for your diligence and efficiency, remember that they love you more for just being there and connecting. While you need to remain useful in order to maintain your health, avoid ‘marrying’ your job or becoming an outright hermit. Release self-judgement and choose a mindfulness practice that helps you get out of your head. Friends are the best medicine, and you’re sure to have many!

Star Point Rx: Balance One Probiotic

While many applaud your devotion and skills, analytical sharpness and endless service – leave time to focus on your gut health. Undue job or personal stress will affect your vital organs, particularly the Virgo-ruled intestines. Enter Balance One Probiotic, a supplement with built-in prebiotics like none other! Distinguished by time-release tablets, rather than capsules, they afford a slow-release of probiotic bacteria directly into your intestines.  Unlike other probiotics, Balance One delivers live bacteria directly to where your gut needs it most. Clinical tests demonstrate the tablets provide 15x more bacteria when compared to regular veggie capsules. While veggie capsules used by leading probiotic brands usually deliver only around 4% of bacteria safely to the gut, Balance One clocks in at a 60% delivery rate. Quickly broken down and exposed to your stomach acid, living probiotics rarely make it through to the intestines. With the new formulation brought to you by Balance One Supplements, time-release tablets form a protective gel coating when they come into contact with moisture, keeping the living bacteria safe in your stomach where it can be slow-released over 8-10 hours. Each tablet has 12 strains impacting digestion and immunity, affording a total of 15 billion CFUs of bacteria. For someone as hard-working and food-loving as Venus Star Point in Virgo, nothing beats better digestion, increased energy levels, clearer skin, improved nutrient absorption and a stronger immune response. Give yourself the gift of these shelf-stable, time-release tablets and your gut flora will never look back!

Venus Star Point in Libra *Venus as a Boy*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Riot Rose Mayers (Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s 2nd son)

Venus comes home to her air sign Libra, with her elegant charms and disarming grace attracting others to one easily. Libra is the zodiac sign correlating with Fall Equinox – when nature achieves a perfect balance between light and dark, yin and yang. Libra’s glyph represents this boundary between day and night and ‘balancing the scales.’ Cherishing peace, affection, objectivity, equality and tenderness in relationship, the accord you create amongst your beloveds shines out into the world in the form of grace, mutual respect and palpable affection. For a Libra VSP, injustices of any sort are intolerable. Emphasis on living in a peaceful and orderly world is a heightened reaction to the proceeding Aries VSP period…and this native usually makes others seem unrefined, abrasive and distasteful by contrast. With the courage of the peacemaker who walks on the battleground, you’re probably in love with love itself! Feeling empowered to create a world based solely on idealized visions, wearing rose-colored glasses nonetheless sets Libra up for disappointment. Searching relentlessly for the perfect partner proves fleeting. Allow the heart to override the head, as a cool and objective analysis of others only creates lofty castles in the clouds. With the latest Libra VSP only having been initiated on October 22, 2022 when the Sun formed a ‘Cazimi’ kissing Venus in Libra for the first time since 1771, we don’t have any mature Libra VSPs just yet— only babes! Our future artists and diplomats – the gift they bring is peace. Looking forward into the Libra VSP era, expect new laws and social movements emphasizing gender balance and racial justice.

Star Point Rx: Glowbar

Goddess or Queen, history or legend, Venus in Libra is a timeless figure of charm, elegance and beauty, to whom poets sing their praise, “Was this the face that launched a thousand ships?” As if you aren’t already lighting up every room you walk into, a quick visit to your local Glowbar will amplify your radiance quotient to the nth degree! Hailed as the economy facial – targeted, no-frills treatments deliver all the glow with none of the pretense or snobbery. In just thirty minutes, Globwar licensed estheticians administer the glow-up of the season at one flat price – no false promises, no hassle, no add-ons! Founded by Rachel Liverman and her family of skincare pioneers, Glowbar works to make customized facial treatments accessible to everyone. With a results-driven process executed by best-in-class skincare experts, during my session with Karlene she articulated everything that was happening so clearly, with a genuine interest in learning and tackling my personal skin care goals.

For days later I felt my confidence soar as I received positive compliments from friends and colleagues. Imagine, having every little baby hair expunged from your face! Called Dermaplanning, it’s a manual exfoliation technique that removes dead skin cells while excavating 80-90% of your ‘peach fuzz.’ To complete my session, I relaxed under a canopy of LED Light Therapy – a painless, relaxing and non-invasive approach to glowing skin that treats mild to moderate acne while stimulating collagen production. The whole process was accommodating and relaxed from start to finish. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a time-saving medical-grade facial at an affordable price!

Venus Star Point in Scorpio *The Ride of Die*

Celebrity Doppelgänger:  Sweden’s teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg

Scorpio VSPs are the ride-or-dies of the zodiac. Forged with much tenacity and resilience, these natives were born into an era in which intensity and transformation catalyzed the collective approach to relationships and self-understanding. Enduring many a boiling point in partnership, you’re not only willing to penetrate life’s darkest mysteries but practically flirt with danger. Craving access to the inner sanctum of life, one searches for raw truth, even if one must reach into the hellish underworld to find it. Instinctually guided and resourceful, the Scorpio VSP moves like a secret agent and emerges victorious as a pressure-cooked diamond, increasing potency with age. Life time focus on alchemy, regeneration, purification, psychic ability, alliances with great power, karma, wealth and sexuality. Committed to emotional depth and extremely loyal. Scorpio is a night sign (water/ feminine) ruled by masculine and fiery Mars – introducing an important theme of gender justice in Scorpio’s balance of both. Caution around playing the ‘shadow game’ when it comes to issues of intimacy, power and manipulation. Significant issues in partnerships that have been relegated to the shadows must be faced head on, be they around finances, shared possessions, or the expression and/or withholding of sexual intimacy. Romance, self-love and financial expansion are important life themes. Remember, the biggest obstacle to your heart is the many layers you build up as protection. While you desire relationship for the shared power it brings, exercise caution when stepping over the line into possessiveness and jealousy. Once you release the hold of toxic emotions, love is yours to keep. Embracing change is key to mastering evolutionary cycles of renewal and growth.

Star Point Rx: de-liver-ance®

The natural magnetism and passion of the Warrior-like Scorpio VSP affords a lifetime of shedding skins and transformative connections, when you’re not going through periods of equally necessary therapeutic isolation and purification. Dear Scorpio VSP, might it be time to heal thy liver? Not only is our liver the organ associated psycho-physiologically with unprocessed anger, it also helps your body fight off infection and disease, clear toxins from the bloodstream, process food and maintain healthy hormone levels. Blessed by our ancient ancestors, emerging plant medicine alternatives like de-liver-ance offer timely, preventative solutions in support of overall mind-body balance. Because nothing brings Scorpio VSP down like the depths of one’s heaviest emotions. Introducing a delicious daily tincture for liver, mind and body support. A powerful antioxidant-packed shot designed to support liver health, mental clarity, and overall well-being – de-liver-ance helps to detoxify the body, boost metabolism, and enhance immune function, all the while promoting mental focus and energy. As a Scorpio sun, I love to pair the herbal tincture with my morning yoga practice, releasing the layers of pent-up emotion while aiding the body’s natural detox process!  Twenty years of research led up to the creation of this all-natural elixir, not to mention the combined wisdom of 5,000 years of Eastern Medicine merged with cutting-edge Western technology.

It’s crafted from 17 herbal extracts that support the release of harmful toxins from the body –  turmeric, rosemary, star anise, kudzu, Solomon’s Seal, pacific sea kelp, ginseng, peppermint, organic raw mesquite honey and purified spring water to name a few! Not only have observational studies of de-liver-ance reported improved liver fat levels and overall vitality with regular use, it’s also vegetarian, GMO-free, gluten-free, caffeine-free, nut-free, yeast-free and lactose-free. Brought to you by Equilibrium Labs and their mission to improve the well-being of every person on the planet by making healthy choices a ritual way of life. Because if there’s one thing about Scorpio natives, they’re never looking for a quick fix! Rather, wellness must get to the root of the matter, trusting deeply in the body’s miraculous regenerative capacity.

Venus Star Point in Sagittarius *Hottest of them All*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Ava Gardner, American Actress & Wife to Frank Sinatra

A bold, dazzling, and hot breed of individuals as molten lava, your gift is wisdom gained from experience. Fun-loving, bold, irreverent, freedom-focused and high-energy, Venus Star Point in Sag must honor the wisdom of the heart. Motivated by a ferocious appetite for adventure, the Sagittarius VSP is always poised to pierce the veil, embarking on profound and revelatory journeys of the Higher Mind. As the seeker and pilgrim of the zodiac, one searches far and wide for the ‘truth’ – usually only to find that it was inside all along. Caution around elevating oneself above the rest, as a superiority complex may have you arrogantly sitting up on your high horse or soap box. The more you humble yourself down to the level of the masses, the more your heart expands. Optimally, a love and heart-centered approach emerges naturally as a result of your interest and study of cosmic law. With ‘Great Benefic’ Jupiter inspiring relationship goals, ideals, plans and tastes – courageous quests may have one ‘overdoing it’ at times. The arrow shooting into the sky, representing Sag, is an indication of this VSP’s spirit of adventure, belief in a cosmic order, and ability to ‘aim high’ in all areas of life. Blessed with expansiveness, optimism and good faith – one’s willingness to explore new worlds of all kinds ever-broadens one’s limitless horizons.

Star Point Rx: Euphoria Blend Live Resin M-Fusion Fruit Punch Edibles

As the ‘reborn’ sign not above lovingly ‘wreaking havoc,’ with their jovial, optimistic, high and mighty heirs – expanding into unity consciousness and the revelatory sanctuaries of transpersonal awareness is the life-long antidote! Venus Star Point in Capricorn *Getting Your Due Reward*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Angel Reese

Venus Star Point in Capricorn, you got high standards, the highest in fact! Dignified, diligent and refined – you’re quite comfortable in leadership roles, innately understanding how to navigate institutions. A cardinal sign of action and movement, your gift is about responsibility. Ruled by guardian planet Saturn, Capricorn is sure-footed on its journey of lifelong achievement. Caution, patience and perseverance prove essential. Nothing is unattainable if you have faith enough to keep the dream alive, making slow progress despite what may appear to be a huge amount of disappointment, delay, or, at times, complete collapse. Capricorn VSPs are fixers, achievers and leaders playing the long game. In the sign of ambition, acknowledgment, responsibility, material reward, duty and expectation – the terrain feels a bit too dreary for pleasure-loving Venus!  Make sure that your values stand the test of time, as you are part of a generation that can play a critical role in reestablishing methods of governance, wealth distribution, and world leadership in light of ongoing global shifts. Indicating an elite and privileged position, you’re one society looks up too or puts in the spotlight. Blessed with steadiness, Capricorn VSP aligns with positions of authority and manages resources well. Seemingly immune to the temptation of quick fixes or foolish risks – one lays the groundwork and makes steady progress toward goals. Just make sure duty isn’t blocking out access to love and warmth. Expecting the most from yourself and your beloveds, once in a while, remember it’s okay to be a little less responsible in the name of heartfelt companionship (might this be your hidden innermost ambition?!) Mature from a young age, one may have experienced a loss of innocence early on – perhaps because you were saddled with adult responsibilities as a child. One may be tasked with passing on cultural traditions to the next generation, or align closely with elders in the community.

Star Point Rx: The Lovestruck Collection

With a natural ability to command respect, make sure that once in a while, you let your outrageous inner teenager come out to play! With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, love isn’t just in the air… it’s at your fingertips! No better way to pamper your inner girly than with the latest in natural nail care by Dazzle Dry. As a Capricorn Venus, I rarely bother to paint my own nails anymore given how conventional polish seems to wear off within a day or two. With The Lovestruck Collection I had hard-set nails that were air dry within five minutes! No exposure to hazardous UV lamps or chips with this ground-breaking polymer technology. Developed by renowned bio-organic chemist Vivian Valenty, the latest Dazzle Dry release enables the polish to expand and contract with the nail, making The Lovestruck Collection your economy gel mani formulated to prevent peeling and chipping. And it’s not only new to the market, the January release unveiled three brand new lacquers: Apple Of My Eye (ruby red with a magenta shimmer), Soulmate (bubblegum pink & Love Potion) and a truly metallic silver. The cleanest performance polish on the market, Dazzle Dry is free from harmful chemicals, vegan and cruelty-free!

Venus Star Point in Aquarius *Ultimate Outsider or Rebel Leader?*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Zoe Saldaña

Group-oriented and future-forward, Aquarius VSP is often a visionary – intelligent, scientific, eclectic, detached and idealistic as they come. A voice of freedom and equality, one believes in social justice and envisions a new world order. Shedding tradition for innovation, one is gifted with future vision and poised at the creative frontier of technology. A passionate and egalitarian maverick, one cares deeply about humanity as a whole. Respecting movements with shared leadership over personality cults, you vote for the underdog and appreciate a fair amount of freedom in partnership. In the sign of awakening and chaos, Aquarius is not only a ‘queer’ sign but one associated with sexual trauma and disassociative tendencies. Try letting in more light so that you can make more room for all the things you love, including yourself. While deeply committed to truth, your failure to look beneath the surface at your own passionate longings can make you untruthful. Is lofty idealism masking pain? Once you see and accept your own vulnerability, fully accepting the complexity of human passions, the love you hold for all humanity grows exponentially. One of your greatest assets is your ability to influence many as a leader or model to the masses, even if this was never your intention. Highly charismatic, one could easily become an influencer or voice of the people, leading others in a detached, unemotional, and sometimes self-righteous manner. Madonna, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Prince and Marilyn Monroe are all examples of Aquarius VSP rockstars with major global influence. Just be careful about the amount of resources you invest in intellectual pursuits, potentially closing off the feeling realm in the process. Your heart-centered approach to life involves demanding egalitarianism! Merging worlds with a special friend or life mate who allows you to maintain your autonomy is a match made in heaven.

Star Point Rx: Eye Detox Brightening Oil

You’ve probably heard that phrase, ‘Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder,’ which is doubly true for off-beat VSP in Aquarius! Did you know Venus rules the eyes, including everything we take in at the visual level? Aquarius being associated with the third eye, and the comprehension of unseen worlds, I can’t think of a better Star Point Rx than this brightening, medicinal at-home EYE-detox! Say goodbye to tired eyes with the new Eye Detox Brightening Oil by House of Grow. This lightweight, plant-based formula is designed to soothe, de-puff and brighten the delicate under-eye area. I keep mine refrigerated for maximum cooling benefits, using the easy rollerball applicator straight out of the fridge for a daily morning refresher. A blend of Chaga and Reishi Mushroom, Carrot Seed Oil, Rose Geranium Oil and other natural botanicals, Eye Detox targets dark circles, reduces puffiness and firms the skin. It not only delivers a natural, well-rested look any time of the day but is cruelty-free clean beauty made without synthetic ingredients, parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, lanolin, phthalates, chemicals, fillers, mineral oils, or petroleum. As a family business based on ancestral wisdom and deep reverence for the ancient therapeutic benefits of plants, House of Grow is leading the pack when it comes to functional, plant-powered skincare solutions with radiant results.

Venus Star Point in Pisces *Slow Dancing with God*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Pioneer of modern contemporary dance Isadora Duncan ‘The Girl Who Danced with Gods’

Here, we must recall how Venus herself emerged from the turbulent seas that stir and constitute the Piscean soul. Two fish swimming in opposite directions symbolizing the sign’s potential to integrate the physical and spiritual dimensions, your VSP makes of you a quintessential dreamer, poet and mystic. Sometimes called the dustbin of the zodiac, Pisces realm encompasses faith, compassion, sensitivity, dissolution, the otherworldly, dreams, visions and the collective ‘sea’ of the unconscious. As a non-linear visionary who is hyper-sensitive to vibes, your gift is imagination. With great kindness and humility, one is inclined toward music and the arts with a high level of psychic understanding. An avid storyteller, one takes creative liberties with reality – creating poetry in motion at every turn. No lie, there is no more heart-centered approach to life! One’s heart is so OPEN one might be in danger of absorbing other people’s filth. Once better boundaries are solidified and maintained, you’ll be able to love with much less suffering. Sensitive to the most subtle energies, one flows through life like a wondrously old soul, innocent and trusting, more often than not thrown overboard by dramatic romantic interludes. Life lessons around reunion, reflection and reconciliation prove formative. While certainly blessed with the ability to rise above 3-D, hypersensitivity can also lead to fears, vulnerability, or escapism. Blocked from achieving the eternal love one seeks, one could easily fall prey to bad habits that provide an alternative to a loveless existence.

Star Point Rx: ZOI High Phenolic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Did you know that eating itself is grounding? As the mutable water sign of the zodiac, in order to find balance, Pisces VSP must reach toward the polarity of Virgo and its  wholesome, Earthen fruits. There is no better way to do so than with this sense-awakening, oleocanthal-rich extra virgin olive oil made on the coastline of Southern Greece. From the family-run purveyor of heart-healthy, organic Mediterranean staples like cold-pressed olive oil and fruit vinegars, ZOI High Phenolic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made from gently picked olives within private groves located in the sandy beach of the southern Peloponnese outside of Sparta, Greece. As only the most oceanic sign of the zodiac would understand, sand is nature’s ideal filtration system – eliminating impurities to assure olives of the highest quality and lending the signature oil its robust, fruity, grassy, peppery flavor.  Let’s talk a little bit about the benefits of this truly delicious and nutritious estate-grown olive oil. It has a higher concentration of oleocanthal,  the most researched phenolic compound in olive oil due to its strong anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, and antidiabetic properties. Virgin Laconiko olive oil is packed with polyphenols – powerful antioxidants found in plants that have been linked to numerous health benefits, including pain relief, anti-inflammation and cancer prevention. Add to that special ingredient ZOI, the deep green variety packing a spicy, bold flavor and antioxidant punch. This olive oil is so good for you, The Pierrakos family, which takes pride in producing this amazing product, recommends taking a daily shot for health. It can be added to juice and smoothies, or taken with a glass of high-quality red wine to improve absorption. Each bottle is guaranteed fresh, Kosher certified, single estate and hand-picked. Recognized with more Greek international awards than any other olive oil company based in the U.S., Laconiko is loaded with 8x more antioxidants than your standard olive oil.
