URANUS, The Great Awakener

Known as ‘the Great Awakener,’ planet Uranus arrives like the chariot – in flashes of insight, in sudden and unexpected changes and ultimately, through our desire to emancipate and innovate. As the higher octave of Mercury, Uranus represents enlightened consciousness and corresponds to the third eye and kundalini rising. While Mercury signifies the left brain and conscious thought, Uranus is allied to the unconscious – the matters of which we are not consciously aware but which typically emerge during altered states (dreams, meditation or hypnotherapy). Uranus is long-term/unconscious memory, Mercury is the daily, short-term memory function that keeps us organized and engaged. As one of the outer, transpersonal planets, the ancients worked with Uranus as intuitive, unseen energies. For all Uranian types (those with a prominent Uranus or significant planets or points in Aquarius/11th house), pulling psychic gems from the ether is a given. One is so attuned to the non-linear field of knowledge, cosmic data is downloaded automatically, without much effort. Riding the creative zeitgeist like a cresting wave, one simply senses what is unfolding.

As the ‘queer’ planet ruling the 11th house of the zodiac, Uranus corresponds with the stage of spiritual development which is about mastering desires (5th house) in order to consciously participate in the universe and give our ‘gifts’ away (11th house). The electric pulse of Uranus screams raise your freak flag high! While it’s easy to get locked in the addictive shadow realms of the 5th house pleasure labyrinth (take it from a 5th house Scorpio Sun!) when sexuality goes beyond survival or procreation it becomes Uranian – creative, electric and oriented to the 11th house of friends, networks, future, technology, dreams, mob mentality, group-think, revolution and liberation. Here again we must emphasize Uranus as a transpersonal planet. Think collective breakthroughs occurring in different parts of the world simultaneously. Uranian genius cannot and must not be patented or trademarked, it’s caliber of brilliance manifests in the world contemporaneously in the collective, at the exact moment humanity can rise to the challenge.

If one is struggling to discover what one has to give in this lifetime, one must dig deep into the realms of the 5th house polarity, knowing and feeling that not only does desire churn the world, but conscious pleasure directs us to purpose. Whereas the 10th house or ‘Midheaven’ of Public Career Destiny is about taking on and utilizing our power in the world, if this is done right, in the 11th house we give it away. For many, it is the Uranian conflicts of midlife that drive us to release our 5th house creativity and self-expression into the whole world, as a gift.

According to astrologer Barbara Hand Clow, the serpent at the base of our spine conceived as kundalini energy rises according to cycles of planet Uranus. Triggering a spiritual crises beginning around our Uranus opposition in our early forties, in Astrology and the Rising of Kundalini Hand Clow explains how the physiological and emotional symptoms of midlife crisis in fact mirror the symptoms of kundalini rising as experienced by people using Eastern practices to intentionally cultivate it. Depending on to what degree one is asleep at the wheel of time, your Uranian wake-up call might feel as gentle as some soothing cranial-sacral therapy or as jolting as an almighty call to revolt. Kundalini energy rising is one type of natural release we can use to discharge stresses at the somatic level. As the kundalini rises, we experience bodily symptoms according to which chakra is blocked, effectively “chipping away at the character armor we protectively surround ourselves with and [forcing] the individual to deal with major issues of personal integration,” writes Hand Clow.

In electrical resonance with the cosmos, Uranus works in lock-step with Saturn. In modern astrology, Aquarius is under dual rulership by Uranus (life) and Saturn (death). Not only is astrology ruled by Uranus, the formal discovery of the planet in 1781 coincided with the time of the American and French revolutions and the discovery of electricity, affirming the relationship of Uranian energy to social transformation. If Saturn symbolizes restriction/structure/death, Uranus symbolizes illumination/chaos/life. This precarious see-saw symbolizes how the Saturnian issue of structure becomes so great that it can dominate the Uranian revolutionary network formed. For example, within activist groups members are often paradoxically asked to follow new rules of conformity or liberated by force. As co-rulers of Aquarius, Uranus regenerates us with new understanding following the impact of each Saturn growth crisis, electrifying the calcified Saturn forms that have appeared as roadblocks.

While a Uranian awakening in the form of kundalini rising at midlife is a plentiful outcome, it is often an exception to the rule. According to Hand Clow’s work with clients over the years, “As humans attempt to bring eros – Uranian sexual life force – into Saturnian form (the body), so far, diseases have manifested. This problem will continue as long as humans fear death.” With the Uranus opposition occurring at age 38-42, the shift is most often felt physiologically in the heart, throat and third eye chakras. For males, what often manifests around this age is a heart attack. For women, blocks more frequently occur at the throat center. “They feel unheard; they feel like they cannot speak. Their heart energy dies because they lose, in a sense, their faith that they possess existence,” writes Hand Clow. In other words, “Death begins at Uranus opposition unless the emotional crisis can be resolved,” concludes Hand Clow. If, on the other hand, the Uranus opposition is mastered and the kundalini energy is released to rise up through the seven chakras from root to crown, the mind becomes free to perfect itself, to individuate and cultivate the higher consciousness Uranus represents.

In Healing the Soul: Pluto, Uranus and the Lunar Nodes, a text I draw from heavily in my astro-insights by zodiac sign to follow, Mark Jones identifies Uranus as both the ‘trauma signature’ and force of liberation in a natal chart. In light of Uranus corresponding to the mental body, subtle mind and Akashic records, Uranus refers to the residues of trauma which result from this lifetime and all previous incarnations. Uranus indicates the mental core of the self that holds memory, as trauma imprints on our field of potential, it creates a distortion that lingers and grips the intellect. While Jones uses Uranus, Aquarius and the 11th house to analyze current and prior life trauma in a natal chart – the ultimate goal is to recognize the overall field as an infinite, magnetic force, remembering, “we are life experiencing itself through us,” says Jones. While each individual is a magnet of consciousness oriented by the place and time of birth, “We are not just an isolated subject, ravaged by our experiences or past,” in fact, “we are a point of awareness held within a vast field,” informs Jones.

When I started to study my Mars in Aquarius, I soberly acknowledge the part of me, and the part of my Mother, that disassociates. I remember calling out to my mother as a child several times before she would answer, wondering where she would go. Today, my son often has to do the same to me. Soothing but only to a point, flights of fancy provide a layer of protection that can become burdensome, like an enclosure blocking the mind from opportunities for connection in the present. While the higher ground of Uranus beckons with promises of all-encompassing psychic unity, the lower ground refers to experiences of trauma in which the pain of staying in the physical body was too great. Unfortunately, for so many of us who have not felt safe (in a female, non-white, non-cis-gendered body, etc) dissociative tendencies are not isolated to the original traumatic incident, but become chronic acts of self-abandonment. Rather than risk feeling, we hover above and look down, a disembodied soul watching itself. Whatever the gruesome details of our personal ancestral trauma, Uranus represents that level of the unconscious that does not forget.

“Trauma is merely the reflowering of a karmic pattern, memory or unresolved issue within the subtle mind, the deeper unconscious,” writes Jones. As a source of deep and regenerative healing, doing the Uranian work involves realizing that it may no longer be in our best interest to expend valuable internal resources to repress painful memories. Stressful aspects from Uranus or planets in Aquarius/11th house indicate long-term or prior life memories with such tremendous impact they have arrested development. As a practitioner of yoga, I believe that disease begins in the mind, in repetitive patterns of thinking with their own introjected meaning, what eventually manifests as physical illness. As evolutionary astrology attests, frequently these higher mind strata carry over unchanged into the present life until the pattern underlying the trauma is dissolved through sustained effort. Liberation from what? If Uranus is the wake-up call of the zodiac, then it is in our most poisonous of experiences that we plant seeds of evolution. The seed of remorse which follows selfishness, the translation of pleasure-seeking into purposeful leadership, impulsivity turned into trailblazing courage…

When Saturn is making a hard aspect to Uranus, there is a physical quality to the trauma signature. Think a physical wound, depletion (malnutrition, starvation) or even prior-life death. When Pluto is the culprit, the trauma is more psychological in nature, for example betrayal, compulsion or sexual obsession. If Neptune were to be involved the root of the hurt is likely psychic in nature, such as experiences of severe disillusionment or a sense of anchorless dysphoria.

The key is a shift in perspective toward non-duality. Have we become wedded to our pain and disenfranchisement? The psychology of the soul begs, what if there were no self to suffer the hurt? It begins with expanding to embrace the grace of the divine, of no-thing. Here again we encounter that archetypical Uranus-Saturn conflict.  Uranus seeks liberation, Saturn requires consensus and control. In the origin story of Uranus, we find a myth of separation. Uranus and Gaia, the first couple, separate in order to end a state of tyranny. Through a loving passion which engenders countless offspring, Uranus ‘God of the Sky’ loves Gaia ‘Goddess of the Earth’ in perpetuity. The origin story of ‘Heaven and Earth,’ Gaia does not share celestial blood with Uranus, but is his consort from the earthly realm.

Because of this, Uranus refuses to allow any of his children with Gaia – who appear to him as monsters, cyclops, titans – to be born. When Uranus pushes their children back into her womb, Gaia is outraged. Eventually she asks if any of her children will rise up against the unbearable tyranny of their Father Uranus. Saturn (child of Uranus and Gaia) steps up and agrees to take on the sky-god, eventually castrating his own father. In one cruel cut, Saturn separates passion from repetition. Interrupting a seemingly endless cycle, Saturn’s fissure makes way for the new life to come.

If you’re a woman, a witch, a wizard, a free-thinker – you very much know the tension held between the individuating spirit (Uranus) and the consensus reality (Saturn). Whether vacillating between creativity and madness, doing regression work, or experiencing flashes of cosmic insight, the truth is that what often follows Uranian periods of illumination are experiences of emotional and cultural isolation from the mainstream. And yet, pretending to fit in leads to a much worse feeling of loneliness. If you have ever felt ostracized, bullied or violated for ‘heretical’ views (even as one day these same visionary ideals come to be accepted) rest assured you are not alone. Too many brilliant souls have been tortured for daring to have an original view. To individuate toward one’s indwelling genius is a treacherous path, as any evolutionary intent for radicalism breeds insecurity and resistance in most. No matter the sign it appears in, Uranus symbolizes a split from the past, a separation from wholeness. As the polarity of the Sun/Leo/5th house, Uranian energy has a quality of coldness too it. And in order for us to wield its vehemently rebellious power, we must continually call ourselves back in from the cold.

As if all that weren’t enough, Uranus is now switching signs again, moving into Gemini July 7th. Other than a few quick dips back into Taurus in the months to come, it will remain in the sign until 2033. Astrologer Kaypacha warns that not only is everything going to ‘speed up,’ many of us will experience information overload! The breakneck speed of AI and science is becoming like a tidal wave that can’t be kept in check. Amidst an ominous astro-foreshadowing of the months ahead, Kaypacha reminds us of the three-fold nature of human beings ala Rudolf Steiner, highlighting how Uranus/Mercury corresponds to our thinking nature, Moon/Venus to our feeling nature and Sun/Mars to human will. While the transit of Uranus in Gemini certainly enhances our creative possibilities, “The key is to not lose our heart, to find a balance between our thinking, feeling and willing,” warns Kaypacha. To drive his point home he reads aloud the Sabian symbol for the exact degree of the recent Sun-Mercury conjunction in Gemini, via Dane Rudhyar:

An Airplane performing a nosedive. A superior ability to challenge nature and play with danger. Through the controlled use of mental powers we are able to challenge the most basic force in nature, gravitation. We enjoy playing with it as a lion tamer plays with his violent animals. But what he plays with is inside himself as well as outside. Gravitation is the universal binding force of the material world. By challenging it we prepare ourselves to pierce beyond the physical and to reach higher realms of existence. We may lose the struggle, but that process makes the effort more exciting. We might gain immortality.

Echoing Kaypacha, astrologer Kelly Surtees says the transit will likely feel more disruptive than not, as Uranus in Gemini promises an eruption of inventive energy surrounding education, borders, technology and communication patterns. Gemini representing humanity and heart-centeredness, transpersonal planet Uranus transiting into the sign signals major shifts for the collective. Surtees envisions restlessness and new forms of radicalism, with tumultuous consequences as major alliances shift across the globe. Collectively, we may be questioning how we live and establishing new coalitions in the name of Uranian liberation made possible by the digital superhighway. And yet, as astrologer Alice Sparkly Cat highlights in her book Post-Colonial Astrology, while the internet is Mercury-ruled and has occult roots, it is an outgrowth of the military-industrial complex. Engineered primarily as a space of surveillance and commerce, “The internet is a weapon made for the nuclear age, able to influence the economic, informational and technological spheres simultaneously,” writes Sparkly Cat. Terming coding Venusian and the internet Mercurial, Sparkly Cat’s post-colonial astrology calls for an end to “a mediated world in which Big Data measures not just national but also global spectacle,” one in which “politicians are operating more and more like pop idols or cartoons.”

If the rise of disorders like ADD/ADHD does not reflect our increasingly fragmented, surveilled and digitized fields of socialization, I do not know what does.  In his book Scattered Minds: The Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder, Gabor Mate, M.D. sheds light on some of the misconceptions cloaking the increasingly diagnosed condition. According to NPR, 7.1 million kids and adolescents in the U.S. had received the diagnosis by 2022 – a million more children than in 2016. In his book, Mate aims to transform the very meaning of the term Attention Deficit Disorder, writing that one of the most damaging misconceptions parents can have about ADD children is that they are simply “looking for attention.” From discarding the illness model to calling out the DSM as being concerned more with categories than emotional pain, his insights serve to reclaim much of the human empathy that has swirled down the attention economy’s techno-capitalist drainpipes.

Gabor insists that, contrary to popular opinion, children with ADD have had to give out more attention than they receive back, which is the very reason for their deficit. “ADD is a diagnosis not of category but of dimension,” writes Mate. Challenging the coded language of ‘attention-seeking’ in our increasingly fast-paced and digitally-mediated social milieus, Mate insists that what today’s growing leagues of sensitive, hyperactive, emotionally dysregulated children need is more positive attention from their parents. While he is not anti-medication, his work makes central the unconditional positive regard that is required for human beings to reach healthy maturation.

Underneath the ADD child’s obstinacy and risky behaviors is a very anxious and insecure child who was never given the opportunity to develop healthy attachment. Not only is the child NOT a menace, attention whore or imbecile – they are above all else a mirror of the parent or caretaker’s level of anxiety, of their desperate frenzy to keep up with their adult responsibilities and the rapid-fire pace of life. In a world that keeps speeding up, Mate reminds us that the conditions of healthy maturation – including the development of secure attachment and autonomy – have never been a given.

While punishments often substitute parents’ feelings and judgments for the lessons taught by reality, the most simple and effective remedy to the rise of ADHD is simple presence and empathy. Rather than aiming to control their children’s behavior, parents must slow down to their level and encourage healthy growth. They must offer unconditional regard for them as humans. By helping children recognize and feel their feelings, families begin to reclaim the connectedness and compassion that has been relegated to the margins within a society that prefers compliance (Saturn) over cooperation (Uranus), performance over presence. Only when we begin to value a child’s secure attachment and healthy autonomy over their socialization and success, will we begin to see our mental health crisis resolve. Certainly, while Gemini and Uranus both signify mental aptitude, their shadow encompasses all diseases of the mind.

Certainly, the fact that the United States chart places Gemini in a prominent, angular position on the descendant makes the significance of this transit for Americans not to be underestimated.  Last time Uranus lingered in Gemini we encountered the United States involvement in World War II (1941 – 1945) and the US Civil War (1861 – 1865). Astrologer Lynn Bell explains how Uranus moving into Gemini, at the onset, accentuates division;  Gemini, The Twins archetype, corresponding to splitting, doubling and multiple points of view. From ICE raids to the war on wombs and gender-non-conformers, to the use of American tax dollars to fund police brutality and genocide abroad, is the ‘land of the (supposedly) free’ the new poster child for civil disobedience? Uranus the ‘queer’ planet of revolt in Gemini is taking our monkey minds to task. It’s time to get curious, rebel and choose the alternative path, remembering that anything is possible! As systems collapse and structures move through the ensuing period of chaos – expect a furious season of flux punctuated by many a glitch. Natives with significant placements in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces) will feel the shift most.

A sign of ingenuity, invention and wit – Uranus in Gemini signals super-intelligence! Calling AI the ‘new mirror’ of humanity, “How we see, understand, and make sense of things will be accelerated,” writes Bell. Highlighting advancements in education and communication as central to this shift, along with issues of accessibility, Bell notes that Uranus was in Gemini when the printing press was invented (around 1444) and again during the unveiling of the first public library, the Bibliotheca Ambrosiana in Milan. And while Gemini is a sign known for tolerance, the shadow of this trickster sign is one of duality. “As Uranus enters Gemini the sense of split can become heightened, and lead to conflict,” writes Bell.

In a country founded on the precarious dualities of black and white, good and evil, right and wrong, slave and free – Uranus in Gemini might just bring matters to a state of urgency. Gemini is not only the trickster, but the crossroads wherein, “The need to choose, to say yes or no, becomes necessary. Gemini can be both the light and dark mirror. Uranus in Gemini comes with a shock. The shock can be of understanding or fear, the fear of otherness, or fear of the dark alternative,” writes Bell. If fixed air sign Uranus of myth is a monster of purity, Gemini asks us to wrestle with paradox. Ultimately, one would hope the dawning “Awareness of the separation may paradoxically lead to greater relatedness,” concludes Bell. The hope is that, rather than all the floods of infomania accelerating the mental schisms of the mind, as more of humanity rises up and takes the transcendent bird’s eye view, integrating disparate parts of the whole, we are collectively evolving and expanding in consciousness. All praise the power of shock-value, when and if it is dialing in our awareness of what it means to belong, the be human and to be divine.

Uranus in Aries *No Fucks Trailblazer*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: OSHO, Indian Philosopher, Mystic & Revolutionary

Uranus in Aries hails bold, pioneering, revolutionary energy. With a strong impulse for rebellion,  this native is characterized by sudden and unconventional actions and a willingness to break-free from traditional norms. Revolutionary and independent, impulsive and unconventional, unique and original as they come…this native is change-oriented! In short, embrace your inner rebel and challenge the status quo! Uranus being the planet of radical change and technology, one might pioneer breakthroughs amounting to a ‘technological renaissance’ ala computing, medical science, aerospace technology or related fields. Potential blind spots around impulsivity, rebelliousness or disruptiveness. The trauma signature here relates to a difficulty in accepting limitations as one struggles to attain personal freedom. At the extreme, this could manifest as a superhuman complex in which one fundamentally denies limitations, pushing oneself to the point of exhaustion, illness or breakdown. If the feeling of limitation is internalized, it can manifest as fear of losing control, potentially leading to a dissociative freeze response.

Uranus in Taurus *Global Awakener*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Muhammad Ali ‘The Greatest’ American pro boxer

Recognizing the benefits of stability and persistence, sometimes to a fault, you prefer to stick to your ways, even if better options come along. Not one to make any sudden moves – you think hard about your choices. Any changes made are practical and long-lasting. While you aren’t a rebel at heart, sometimes you feel confined by rules and regulations. Avoid closing yourself off from new, unexpected possibilities that could prove beneficial. Balance your reserved, traditional approach with an open mind and revolutionary spirit. An environmentalist at heart, you vote carbon-neutral, green and zero waste. Repurpose, salvage and upcycle – releasing belongings that keep you stuck in the past. With tech-savvy Uranus in this money-minded placement, you may play a humanitarian-like role in finance or real estate. Think redistributing assets fairly and enforcing that everyone contributes equally. Your equanimity and courage may very well be a result of personal experiences with fluctuating assets or housing insecurity. Breaking free from the conservatism of the Bull, Uranus’s influence brings a spirit of ‘Global Awakening’ to the typically individualist Taurean. On that wavelength, Uranus is in detriment in Taurus, where its powers are weakened. Chaotic Uranus is rebellious and disruptive while Taurus loves structure, order and routine. Uranus is the liberator while Taurus honors the tried-and-true. Blending these fundamentally diametric forces taps into your true superpower.

Uranus in Gemini *The Wake-Up Call*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Pam Grier, Blaxploitation Queen

Uranus in Gemini opens our mind, with the twins archetype corresponding to splitting, doubling and multiple points of view. On the shadow spectrum, this can also look like war, division and binary-thinking used to justify or perpetuate inequities (President Trump is a Gemini Sun). Blessed with a quick, curious and innovative mind – one is drawn to the ‘new,’ particularly in the realm of ideas and technologies, communication, media and academia. However, restlessness and desire for change makes it difficult for you to commit to one path. Caution around non-committal attitudes, restlessness, impatience or an insatiable need for stimulation. Relaxation and embodiment techniques like breathwork are highly beneficial. The trauma signature here revolves around internal or external confrontations to one’s intellectual understanding of reality. Strong identification with the thinking process and the nature of one’s beliefs can lead to major stress when those beliefs are undermined. One may come to feel alienated by the outside world, as you experience yourself to be on a completely different wavelength. Where there is a lack of reception for the ideas you do communicate, and you feel unheard or silenced, isolation can occur. Ask yourself if this is an actual rejection or if rigidity in the mental life has been formed as a defense mechanism.

Rx: Shining Skull Breath

Shining Skull Breath (Sanskrit Kapalbhati) is a pranayama, aka breathing meditation, which improves breathing efficiency, leading to an increase in overall energy levels and vitality. A simple practice that can be done anywhere, anytime –  the stimulation of lung sensors enforced by quick, forceful exhalations sends signals to the brainstem— helping to ‘reset’ and optimize breathing patterns. As a practitioner of yoga for over thirty years, I swear by pranayama; it is both the foundation of the practice and the simplest/hardest part. It is the monkey mind that makes it hard! And in the sign which most represents this link between breath and mind, head and heart, Uranus seeks to liberate! While ancients have practiced Kapalbhati since the beginning of time, science is now beginning to reflect its potency in clear and proven ways. An existing new study coming out of the Department of Yoga, Central University of Rajasthan (India), states benefits across age groups of the Shining Skull breath include:

  • It offers a natural, drug-free way to strengthen lung function, including helping patients with chronic respiratory conditions like asthma
  • Stronger respiratory muscles and better oxygen exchange
  • By improving breathing efficiency, Kapalbhati may also enhance overall energy levels and vitality
  • Also called ‘Breath of Fire,’ this ancient breathing technique is wonderfully warming and energizing. Stoking our inner fire (Sanskrit agni) this physical heat aids purification and digestion—physically, mentally and emotionally

And, it’s not only clinically proven to clean and clear the lungs, increasing our capacity to drink in the sea of life force energy called prana…just a few minutes sitting with the practice cleans out mental cobwebs, helping practioners feel more mentally stable and awake. Says Timothy Burgin, Founder and President of Yoga Basics, “The ancient yogis discovered a deep connection between the breath and mind. This new research confirms this link. A 10-minute practice can quickly shift your mental state from scattered to focused.” To learn more about this powerful technique and other yoga basics, click the link below and follow @yoga_basics on Instagram

Uranus in Cancer *Unconventional Care-Giver*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Rekha, Bollywood Queen

Uranus in Cancer merges nurturing and protective qualities with freedom-loving and revolutionary tendencies. One is accepting and caring, albeit in an unconventional, fresh manner. Highly intuitive, one has a great deal of emotional understanding. With many an insight into new ways of relating to family/home, one implements unconventional methods of caring for others, perhaps creating a ‘chosen family’ of friends. Grappling with the need to balance freedom and individuality, emotional connectivity and intimacy, caution around fluctuations of mood leading to emotional turbulence and inconsistency. At best, this position can improve imagination and memory. The trauma signature here often originates in a lack of nurture or emotional empathy in early childhood. Displaced emotions unresolved from childhood arise during adulthood in problematic ways. At times, these emotional ‘ghosts’ of the past have a retraumatizing effect, as one recreates the original pain without resolution via intimate partners or friends. Maybe the early family life context lacked safety, which creates a feeling of radical insecurity later in life. As you struggle to ‘feel at home’ in the world, redirect attention inside to discover a source of security within.

Rx: Multiflora Natural Raw Honey

Although commonly associated with the crab, Cancer’s lesser known archetype is the honeybee. As astro-feminist Sheila Farrant informs, Cancer’s centering quality as Matriarch was originally informed by a cluster of over 400 stars moving together as a ‘Beehive’ within the constellation of Cancer. In a world that idealizes nurturing care while assuming caretakers will provide these functions (whether or not they are compensated), the nectar of Cancerian honeybee wisdom seems to be due reparations. No coincidence how the future of humanity leans on the survival of a now rapidly dwindling existence of bee colonies. While much of the stellar honeybee mythology centering feminine Mother wisdom seems to have been lost under patriarchy, the symbolic language still serves to reinforce masculine ‘King’ of a planet Jupiter’s exaltation in Cancer (a magical portal that began last month and will last until June of 2026). Studied as an ideal organization by the ancients, Kings of ancient, pre-dynastic lower Egypt were called ‘One of the Bee’ and ‘Bee-Keeper.’

Progressive and forward-thinking in your approach to nurture, nothing says Cancerian bliss like ethically sourced raw honey from the heart of West Africa.  A luxurious taste experience crafted for true connoisseurs, Goldswarm Multiflora Natural Raw Honey is meticulously harvested from diverse wildflowers in West Africa’s pristine montane ecosystems. No additives, preservatives, heat processing or GMOs. Known for its exquisite caramel undertones and fragrant floral aromas, the unique Goldswarm straining technique helps the honey retain its natural essence and beneficial properties. Made in small batches for internationally certifiable purity and unparalleled taste, Goldswarm is not only award-winning, it’s also an outfitter that prioritizes environmental conservation and the livelihoods of local communities. Standing out for the authenticity and heritage of its origins, Goldswarm Honey brings the finest nectars of the lush landscapes and diverse ecosystems of Nigeria right to your doorstep. Because if championing African biodiversity weren’t reason enough, Goldswarm is challenging deforestation, promoting local land stewardship and maintaining the earth untouched from synthetic chemicals and commercial farming practices. Just like the pressure-cooked pearl of the Cancerian heart, this honey is as much national treasure as it is cosey tea-time staple. Discover the essence of West Africa and the promise of a better future with Goldswarm Multiflora Natural Raw Honey.

Uranus in Leo *The Electric Progressive*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Sex & The City’s Kim Catrall

Uranus in Leo indicates a rebellious, innovative and creative spirit. Challenging traditional norms and expressing oneself with unique flair, this placement can bring unexpected swerves in relationships, especially in matters of passion, entertainment and parenting. Highly individualistic and possibly eccentric, one is driven by a desire to make your mark and leave a lasting impression. Independent, passionate, creative and self-expressive – challenging authority comes naturally! Just try not to bite the hand that feeds you.  Uranus in Leo suggests trauma resulting from a lack of acknowledgment of one’s gifts or creative contributions. Maybe the self-image was unrealistically high – as in a feeling of superhuman ability that exists without fault. Feedback to the contrary can be destabilizing. Prior life memories of achievement/high status only fuel the frustration experienced around lack of acknowledgement. Uranus in the Sun-ruled sign of Leo corresponds to a need for total change – not without the corollary sense of insecurity. Because most people base their sense of security on what is familiar, too much change too soon can lead to traumatic mental dissociation or breakdown. Tread carefully into the unknown!

Rx: Terrarium Bikini

Uranus in Virgo *Making it Happen*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Michelle Obama

Blending insurrectionist mojo with practical application, one is innovative and forward-thinking while not losing sight of the dailiness of revolutionary toil. Seeking order and convenience via innovation, the focus is on practical solutions and technological advancements. Uranus’s desire for freedom and change paired with Virgo’s attention to detail and analytical approach can lead to inventions and discoveries that improve transportation, medicine or the workplace. The trauma signature relates to experiences of persecution or critical feedback. Have powers of discrimination become fractured or flawed in some way to the point that you are engaging in extremes of behavior? Perhaps, swinging from chaotic hedonism to total abstinence and back? Consider that both extremes represent the same attempt to respond to feelings of inner emptiness. Release perfectionism and find daily self-care rituals to support mental balance. Perhaps one experiences an existential fear around persecution intertwining over multiple life times, or at the very least a deep-rooted sense of inadequacy – of not being ready enough or good enough to make life work. Perhaps one struggles to find the right work, or to reform the work that you do. Trauma occurs when the work is compromised, denied or morally corrupt in some way. The feeling of never being ready, of never fully actualizing, can become its own vicious cycle whereby one gallivants from one crisis to the next. In Virgo, crisis itself can become a mentality, a method, an addiction. Any feelings of victimization and resulting isolation only compound the hurt.

Uranus in Libra *Our Lady of Shock Value*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Lucy Liu

Uranus in Libra suggests an individual who prizes equality, fairness and the freedom to self-express via fashion. Rebellious and innovative, feminist and justice-oriented – one prioritizes service, liberation, beauty, art and equality with a special emphasis on shock value and unconventional relationship models. With Uranian individuality and eccentricity tempered by a Libran focus on fairness and cooperation – one has the ability to effect social change in a manner which respects others’ rights and freedoms while honoring the sacredness of individuality. Discovering how you desire to serve is key, with fields like healing, social services, self-care, the arts, beautification and fitness being best bets. The trauma signature involves sudden or unexpected changes within relationship – unexpected endings, a sudden shift from partner to friend, friend to partner – can cause problems if one has based one’s security on the previous structure. Caution around expectations one has projected onto others and vice versa. This can indicate a high degree of irrationality with regard to intimate others, from excessive dependency to fear of dependency (destroying every relationship that comes close to mattering). If the trauma is ongoing, one may develop a detachment from others to the extent of dissociation or pronounced loneliness.

Uranus in Scorpio *Truth, Trust & Upheaval*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Rosario Dawson

The ‘Great Awakener’ in the sign of sex & death is a force to be reckoned with! A furture-forward individual with the power to transform human interaction, Uranus in Scorpio is an instigator of change. Welcoming sudden upheavals with open arms – you believe in the transformative power of truth, and will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of things. Even if your intense emotions can sometimes get the better of you, you deeply care. Persistent, secretive and detail-oriented, Uranus in Scorpio tends to surprise others with their success. Intensity makes one a dynamic lover, Scorpios being known for indulging in the pleasures of the flesh. The dark side? Your need for control. One can’t handle feeling dominated or restricted, and may lash out if others try to exercise control over them. Desiring the last word in arguments, one doesn’t easily back down. While this often leads to victory, it can also cause upset. Don’t let stubbornness lead to your downfall. The trauma signature with this placement revolves around experiences of betrayal (real or imagined), or perhaps on the extreme end physical or psychological abuse. When the impact of harm leaves one feeling unwilling to trust again, this individual approaches relationships as a process of psychological confrontation, a test of wills. Acknowledging the impact of traumatic experiences can afford deep healing abilities, or, aggression fueled by fear that it might happen again. Avoid a ‘get them before they get me’ mentality at all costs.

Rx: SERENE Blackberry Lavender Tea

Time to free your mind and calm your heart, Uranus in Scorpio, as this caffeine-free, agave-sweetened, adaptogenic-infused lusciousness will have you floating above like the soaring eagle and phoenix expression of the scorpion totem!

Uranus in Sagittarius *Freedom-Loving Eccentric*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Constance Wu

Shy and delicate meets proud, bold and lively AF. Uranus in mutable fire signals natural creativity and a desire to upend the mundane. As independent as they come, work efforts may be inconstant – at times even undisciplined, eccentric or rebellious. Does your desk resemble a disaster zone? Disliking routine, one’s freedom-loving instincts propel this native to seek out work that affords the most personal freedom. So long as you cultivate self-discipline, there is no limit to the amount you can accomplish. In the sign of spiritual expansion and philosophy, the trauma signature here most likely relates to personal belief systems that run counter to prevailing norms. A sense of alienation from one’s family, environment or culture of origin may pervade the consciousness, leading to an ongoing fear of misjudgment, if not experiences of ostracization. When it comes to matters of health, alternative methods are preferred to the ‘doctrine’ of so-called experts. Traumatic experiences result when belief systems that are extremely fixed and important to the individual are challenged. Mental suffering occurs in direct proportion to the identification that was invested in the belief system. In extreme cases, alienation or loss of belief can promote a state of complete defeatism or despair, as if the world experienced inside has absolutely no relationship to the one ‘out there.’ Caution around fundamentalism and/or Holy War against others who threaten dearly-held beliefs.

Uranus in Capricorn *Rebel Rising*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Lily Collins

Planet of radical change in the most conservative of all signs? With a strong need for reinvention, one is a disruptor of traditional structures, an innovator, and a forward-thinker. A planner who is comfortable with uncertainty, this hardworking and ambitious Uranus strives toward progressive social change. Defining ‘success’ for oneself, one feels empowered to challenge the status quo, pursuing a path of utmost authenticity. Bridging the divide between convention and revolution, this relatively contradictory energy calls for pushing boundaries and creating new possibilities. Channel your inner rebel to initiate positive transformations in the world around you. Attuned to the ever-evolving flow, one actively participates in destined evolutionary growth – creating space for everyone to thrive. Embracing cutting-edge technology helps you make your unique imprint on society. The trauma signature likely involves parents, perhaps one or both of whom were dysfunctional or lacking empathy. Lack of parental validation or an experience of feeling shamed easily extends to the external world, whereby one struggles to feel validated by society at large. Prior lifetimes of family/societal judgment (playing the scapegoat) only compound the hurt. Don’t let it lead to depression, despair or a psychology of futility.

Rx: PROBUGS Creamy Orange

At the ‘work’ end of the work/family or parent/child Capricorn-Cancer axis, your Uranus redefines the meaning of success as a fluid and heart-centered authority figure. Got kids? How about a cranky inner child that needs a break? Even if you put in more work than any other sign, carrying the Capricorn burdens of isolation or guilt only blocks the Uranian liberatory potential. Specially formulated to appeal to young kids’ taste buds and sense of fun, ProBugs kefir is made of 99% lactose-free cultured milk with tummy-loving microbes that help to balance the microbiome.  A yummy drinkable snack like no other, it’s a nutritional powerhouse in a pouch, with 3x the amount of probiotics compared to conventional yogurt. A great alternative for sensitive tummies, in addition to immunological benefits, adding kefir to kids’ diets may help reduce colic, milk allergy and GERD, with more benefits being discovered daily. Set your kids up for a lifetime of strength, immunity and vitality with Lifeway Foods ProBugs Kids Kefir Advantage. Packed with 12 strains of live probiotic cultures, ProBugs Kids Kefir is BPA-free, gluten-free and USDA certified organic. It’s made from humanely sourced milk from local farmers using renewable energy, and comes in flexible packaging made from post-consumer scraps. From the company that makes healthy foods you can eat on the run, once you go ProBugs, you’ll never look back!

Uranus in Aquarius *Lonewolf or Rebel Leader?*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Lily Rose Depp

The free-wheeling energy and autonomy associated with this combo make one a true catalyst for positive change. An independent soul who dances to the beat of their own drum – superior self-expression and open-mindedness proves inspiring!  The planet of chaos and change in its home-sign – the humanitarian space of Aquarius –  means you have a tendency to always shake things up, creating ripples and inspiring radical others to follow your lead. Fantastic in a brainstorm – you’re known for firing off out-of-the-box ideas. Invest your time in taking action on your heart’s desires and there is no limit to what you can achieve. Just be sure your intentions are pure. If you want to see something torn down, you can easily wreak havoc. Use your power wisely. The trauma signature here usually orients around a realization that one is not living their true nature. The discovery of said ‘false self’ can feel shocking. Perhaps you’re in psychological hiding, having experienced rejection or punishment when trying to abort the matrix mentality within. Trauma may be experienced through friendships or groups that suddenly become highly critical or persecutory. This placement refers to the evolutionary intention to detach and experience a radical break from all restrictive prior conditioning. As security is constituted primarily through familiarity, this need can create enormous mental stress and crippling anxiety. Don’t let fears or the judgments of others prevent you from achieving freedom from the past.

Rx: Greenhouse Candle

As your Uranus learns to unapologetically wield your freak flag and ‘come in from the cold’ of radical otherness, make sure to create a soft landing for your posse, polycule or pet brigade. No better way to enhance interior space than with future-forward, non-toxic GreenHouse candles. While recent studies reveal that traditional candles release harmful chemicals into the air, GreenHouse non-toxic candles are made with natural ingredients that reduce indoor pollution to create a safer environment for you and your chosen familia. Safer for pets and children, GreenHouse candles are free from paraffin, phthalates and other chemicals found to negatively impact living organisms. Natural fragrances in place of synthetic scents and dyes connect you back to the exquisite bosom of nature. Step into the sun-drenched stillness of a garden in full bloom with the scent of just-watered leaves and sun-warmed vines. Notes of crisp tomato leaf and peppery basil mingle with lush gardenia and delicate spring blossoms, creating a scent that’s earthy, floral and fresh. Bring the essence of nature’s greenhouse home with non-toxic candles, a must-have for all vibe shepherds of the Aquarian Age, such as yourself.

Uranus in Pisces *Herald of Change*

Celebrity Doppelgänger: Yvonne De Carlo, 1950’s American Actress

When you come around, change does too. Free-wheeling Uranus in Pisces means your subconscious is always on the lookout for how to shake things up. But you’re hardly a walking chaos-factor. Rather, tapping into the planetary mind allows one to acquire profound insights that can dissolve preexisting knowledge, paving the way for revolutionary shifts. Harnessing this potential requires a willingness to let go of rigidity. To the extent that the spiritual impulse remains unrealized, there exists a capacity for powerful disillusionment, fear, or loss of meaning. How might life be transformed if one were to release old patterns of thinking? Remain open-minded and receptive as you tap into this most transformative juju – contributing meaningfully to the evolution of humanity. The trauma signature may involve escapism, substance abuse, excessive fantasy or delusion, even madness or a sense that one’s personality is dissolving under internal pressure and stress. Past lives may carry the weight of memories of imprisonment or persecution, even psychic attack – plus a subsequent psychology of hiding from others or from life itself. Mental imbalances and psychosis represent the epitome of withdrawal from life; others may endlessly sleep or retreat into fantasy to escape reality’s demands.
