You may or may not know that Santa’s hat dates back to ancient Rome with the pileus — a soft and circular cap that was often worn by freed slaves as a symbol of their liberty. It was typically red or white in color and leads several historians to believe the inspiration of the traditional Santa hat. The style has had several alterations or progressions over the years including wreaths of holly, thickets and wax candles. We aren’t going that drastic this season. Following are just a few suggestions to help with your Santa’s attire.
I recommend the styles of Peter Grimm. One of my favorite head toppers is their Black Beau (above). This brimmed hat is versatile for day or evening attire and I love the detail on the brim band plus the feather spray. These hats are made of 100% wool and one size fits all. In my opinion they are unisex so you may just want to pick up one or more for the entire Claus gang and helpers.
Peter Grimm also offers beanies with their Catskills knits collection. I am a fan of their slate blue beanie that they refer to as “petrol” — I believe this will perfectly fit your Santa while he is chopping wood, loading up his sleigh and perhaps heading to Upstate New York. Oh what fun it is to ride especially when your ears are warm — these caps do the trick with a simple roll up or roll down. Your beach lovin’ Santa will most definitely appreciate the Tarot Hat made with 100% Palmilla straw that has a 50+ UPF coverage.
The Gatsby hat is made with perfection by Worth & Worth. Bring out the impish and sporty youth of your Santa with this cap, also known as the “Big Apple”. It’s fully lined for comfort and the brown herringbone windowpane is not only flattering with today’s facial hair but also conjures up the silver screen of Hollywood. The look is studious and similar to the newsy hat found on many corners of New York City during the days of big machines including the news press. I think the Gatsby is masculine and contemporary — gone are the negative connotations with its ties to gangsters, scallywags and grifters. Today, it’s stylin’ in every neighborhood.
Santa has to hold the reindeer reigns while navigating a GPS system on his electronic device. To keep his hands warm and functional, I recommend the Trendoux Gloves with their 50% conductive yarn on touchscreen fingertips. I tried them and not only are they form fitting, they also allowed me to type on my tablet and dial my smartphone with ease. Their additional gripper palms will assure that no package or toy slips from his hands. These gloves are a great gift and I prefer the crimson red color in honor of the jolly one. They are available at most department stores and online at Amazon.com.
Is your Santa detail oriented? Of course he is! This is another reason why he will appreciate the details in the design, purpose and manufacturing of the Blvck Hoodies and Sweaters.
