Dining at Le Petit Village is a fantastically memorable experience that melds delectable regional French cuisine with inspired mixology, distinctive decor, and a genuinely warm, efficient waitstaff. Located at the corner of Perry Street and Seventh Avenue, every aspect of this restaurant has been well-considered, right down to the leather utensil holders.
The atmosphere is convivial, especially on a Friday night, and the restaurant offers two stories so if you want to plan a private party, the second floor is ideal for it.
Executive Chef Mehjabin Ahmed has worked in some of the world’s top kitchens, which is apparent in the restaurant’s inspired offerings that combine traditional techniques with seasonal, terroir-driven ingredients.
As an added bonus, their cocktail menu has to be one of the most creative in New York City. Mixologist Jeremy Le Blanche‘s aromatic Rose De Chloe and whimsical Fleure Blanche (among others) add to the superb experience.
Le Petit Village was founded by Mino Habib and Mathias Van Leyden, the creators of Loulou Petit Bistro. Passionate about French cuisine, they set out to evoke the charm of rustic Southern France villages. Mino’s culinary experience and Mathias’s nostalgic French vision has resulted in sheer magic. The West Village, with its cobblestone streets and low buildings, is an ideal location, too.
Artful mixology for cocktails and mocktails .
We began with the East Coast Oysters, which were mignonette and fresh, served with lemon and the world’s tiniest Tabasco sauce bottle (smaller than my pinkie finger).
The oysters were an excellent prelude to the grilled Branzino white fish I ordered, which arrived whole on a wood platter, de-boned except for the head and tail, and tasted amazing. Served with lemon and a side of olive tapenade, it was perfectly grilled and presented.
My husband ordered the Steak au Poivre with Frites, suspecting correctly that it would be authentic. The New York Strip was tender and the au Poivre sauce was flavorful and well-balanced.
Desserts at Le Petit Village are recommended because they hold their own to the main courses, libations, and side dishes. The Sundae is enormous enough to share, and you can also opt for sorbet, creme brulee, and profiteroles.
Our waitperson Patricia was the epitome of elegance, warmth, and efficacy. I cannot praise Le Petit Village enough – that’s how good it is.
